Hever Castle and Gardens.
Spanning more than 700 years, the history of Hever Castle is rich and varied. The original medieval defensive castle, with its gatehouse and walled bailey, was built in 1270. In the 15th and 16th centuries it was the home of one of the most powerful families in the country, the Boleyns, who added the Tudor dwelling within the walls.
The Castle was to become the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, King Henry VIII’s second wife, who became Queen of England for just 1,000 days. It was Henry’s love for Anne and her insistence that she became his wife rather than his mistress that led to the King renouncing Catholicism and creating the Church of England.
Hever later passed into the ownership of another of Henry VIII’s wives, Anne of Cleves, and from 1557 onwards it was owned by a number of families including the Waldegraves, the Humphreys and the Meade Waldos.
Gradually it fell into decline before William Waldorf Astor invested time, money and imagination in restoring the Castle. He commissioned the ’Tudor Village’, now called the ‘Astor Wing’ and the construction of the magnificent gardens and lake. At Hever, his wealth and vision enabled him to create a lavish family home that also indulged his passion for history.

The beautiful gardens at Hever Castle were laid out between 1904 and 1908 by Joseph Cheal and Son, turning marshland into the spectacular gardens you see today, which are a pleasure to visit at any time of the year.

One of the most magnificent areas of the gardens is the Italian Garden, which was designed to display William Waldorf Astor’s collection of Italian sculptures. Over 1,000 men worked on the grand design, with around 800 men taking two years to dig out the 38-acre (14.2 ha) lake at the far end of the Italian Garden. Within four years the 125 acres (50 ha) of classical and natural landscapes were constructed and planted. The garden is only now reaching its full maturity and includes the colourful walled Rose Garden which contains over 4,000 bushes.
There are many water features around the gardens, including Half Moon Pond, the Cascade, the cool and shady grottoes, the formal Loggia fountain inspired by the Trevi fountain in Rome, and the less formal Two Sisters’ Pond.
Other areas that you can stroll through include the Tudor Garden, Rhododendron Walk and Anne Boleyn’s Walk, with its collection of trees planted more than 100 years ago.
In recent years, the present owners have made several changes to the gardens, including the installation of the Millennium Fountain that can be found on Sixteen Acre Island forming an interesting feature at the far end of this more informal area of the gardens. The 100-metre herbaceous border has been reinstated and Sunday Walk and Church Gill Walk created, providing a peaceful woodland garden following the course of a stream. In addition to the existing Yew Maze, a splashing Water Maze has been built on Sixteen Acre Island – a unique feature which is especially popular with children.

About six months ago, this man and his wife leased the convenience store near my office. And for six months they have operated that store by themselves from 7:30 in the morning until 11:00 at night. They have no employees.
I know some people have stopped shopping there because they are from India. Their business isn't "American owned". But I see them working harder to achieve the American dream than are most Americans, including me..
And besides, they're nice people. I like them and they're becoming my friends. I'm glad to have them here. Tomorrow I'm taking pictures of his wife in her native dress. I'm excited.

2011 Bring Your Own Big Wheel (BYOBW) race. Annual race held every year at 20th and Vermont Streets in San Francisco, California at 4pm on Easter Sunday.
Men, women & children, often in costumes, sign a waiver and race down the curves of Potrero Hill for free in homemade big wheels. An Easter event in SF like no other!

Maxi is a chain of grocery stores owned by Loblaw Companies Ltd. This store looks fancy, and I drove by the store not long after scoping out the suburbs of Montreal.

Concorde is a Dutch owned bicycle brand, with the steel frames manufactured in Italy.
Traditionally known for their association with the highly successful PDM cycling team.
The model Aquila, is made with Columbus SL tubing, Campagnolo front & rear ends, Cinelli seat lug, Pamtograhed lugs, BB shell, photo finish plate, double bottle bosses, sometimes, aero brake and gear cables.
These build up into excellent road bikes, in the traditional classic sense.
These are all frames built in the 70's 80's and some even the in the 90's - so the quality is checked by Geoff Roberts of Roberts Cycles, based in Sussex.

In 2021, Warrington was successful in its application for Zero Emission Bus Regional Area (ZEBRA) funding to support the introduction of zero-emission buses. The Department of Transport provided approximately £21.5m to replace Warrington’s Own Buses’ fleet of diesel buses with new electric buses and provide the electric vehicle charging infrastructure needed at Warrington's Own Buses’ new depot.
By summer 2025, 105 electric buses were in service with Warrington’s Own Buses in a new bright yellow livery, all MCV bodied Volvo BZLs comprising thirty-three double deckers (2001-2033), and seventy-two single deckers of varying lengths: four 9 metre (9001-9004), forty-nine 10.8 metre (1001- 1049) and nineteen 12.1 metre (1201-1219).
Warrington retained one of its Wright Eclipse 2 bodied Volvo B7RLEs, 226 (BD12 TEV), as a driver training bus and painted it in a yellow Training School livery. It was photographed at Warrington bus station on 9 July 2025.
