Every 5 years, 40% of the jobs that was being done or have been doing would be replaced by technology, so I urge you to constantly reinvent yourself by up skilling. I encourage you to do something that defines your goal rather than becoming something. All the very best to all students who have made their parents, teachers and the institution very proud, you are an achiever remember this.

April 24, 2013. Carbondale, Ill. Rashionda Carlisle, a freshman from St. Louis studying social work, walks in the third annual "Can I Live" rally from Grinnell Hall to the SIU Student Center. The rally, sponsored by the Speaking and Teaching registered student organization and Phi Beta Sigma, celebrates the overcome of adversity with guests speaking from their own past experiences of surviving rape, bullying and gang violence. Kia Smith, a freshman from Chicago studying journalism, was very interested in walking in the rally once she heard some of these stories. "The stories of struggle and triumph is an inspiration to us all and motivation to keep going," Smith said.

Open Sailing aims to design and invent future lifestyles to overcome any possible natural and manmade disasters stimulating people’s ingenuity and sense of solidarity. Might it be global warming or energy conflicts, we are living in a time where we are sniffing the ‘Apocalypse’, finally realising our human part of responsibility as the earth is crumbling. 2012 is a year when a collection of apocalyptic events are rumored to happen. We are taking 2012 as an ideal dystopic symbol we design for. 2012 is tomorrow, we must design quickly using these constraints and invent bootstrapping DIY technologies.
Open Sailing method is to convert apocalyptic threats into design constraints. From our compiled set of threat maps, we found that oceans are the safest locations. Ocean survival architecture became our new starting point, but we need to go further than surviving : how can we live together in this new fluid configuration and remain a hyper-connected intelligent social being? We are trying to make a truly “open architecture” : pre-broken, under-defined, reconfigurable, moveable, pluggable, organic, fluid. Can we reach a harmonious dynamic state of interdependence with each other and the earth? Is this the next step of civilization progress? Will we dissociate our concept of progress with infrastructure and metropolis?
NEXT STEPS IN 2009
Finding motivated knowledgeable collaborators and funders (february).
Prototyping technology equipment for ocean living, UK (march ~ april).
Testing the Open Sailing in the Atlantic ocean, Morocco (may).

The #16 Winston-Salem State battled back from a deep deficit late, but could not overcome the hot shooting of the Livingstone College guards and fell 75-72 to the Blue Bears in the CE Gaines Center on the WSSU campus.
The loss drops the Rams to 16-4 overall, 9-2 in the CIAA and 3-2 in the Southern Division. Livingstone College improves to 15-5 overall, 7-4 in the CIAA and also 3-2 in the Southern Division.
Livingstone jumped out on the Rams early to the tune of 9-2, before WSSU would get going to take their first lead with 12:01 in the first half with the score 17-14.
Both teams would trade baskets and the tempo increased, but the Rams, coming off of a tough road win at Johnson C. Smith on Wednesday, could not get things going and fell behind by seven at half, 41-34.
The Blue Bears started the second half hot and continued to pressure the Rams and stretched their lead to 15 points at 56-41, with 10:23 remaining.
Winston-Salem State would hunker down on defense and would battle back to within four at 63-59 with 4:31 left. The Rams would continue to pressure Livingstone and would take the lead at 72-71 with 50 second left on a driving basket by Justin Glover.
But the Blue Bears came right back with a driving layup of their own by Mark Thomas.

The Torture Museum
The picture is not exactly to inspire confidence: a relatively inconspicuous, easy to be overlooked, leaving in Esterhazy Park, above it huge great "torture" is written - a look down the stairs ends in semi-darkness. Do you really want there down? This one who really dares and overcomes his primal fears finds in Torture Museum a bizarre piece of edutainment.
Horror Cabinet
In an old bunker built from the Second World War, the "Museum of Medieval legal history", also known as torture museum, offers more than 100 exhibits: the issue is about instruments of torture from the Middle Ages to the early modern era - but also the present is not spared out, as the chapter of torture is unfortunately not a completed one. However, the special feature of the museum of torture is not only the brute topic, but also the presentation of the methods of torture: these are illustrated in fact - Madame Tussaud sends her regards -, based on more or less lifelike dolls which, however, have all seen better days.
The bunker
The entrance area of 800 square meters of the small museum is dedicated the information about the bunker - a specially equipped bomb attack simulation space -, a small chamber into which sirens are played in provides initial thrill. We continue to the small counter where in addition to the tickets (€ 6, - or € 4.50 reduced) also chocolate bars and chewing gums are sold. Then we will start off into the dim and gloomy half-light of another bunker premises which have been adapted and remodeled for the museum.
The history of torture
In several bunks here so the history of torture is worked up station by station and vividly. From Maria Theresa's first ordinance in which the torture still was an important part, until their abolition: the main focus in the exhibition is always on Vienna and Austria. What at the beginning looks harmless - the replica of a court chamber with the dolls of the judge and plaintiff or the puppets of Maria Theresa and Joseph II seem almost unintentionally funny - becomes later on hair-raising, especially in the representations of the single methods of torture. Even if the dolls partly just don't look lifelike, things like the Schandflöte (flute of shame), the oral pear, various torture chairs or the famous Iron Maiden still inspire the imagination. The museum soon it becomes clear: humanity is really incredibly creative when it comes to the pain inflicting. Stretching rack, bathing in boiling water, Bäckerschupfen (cucking stool), from the pillory to the guillotine, nothing is missed out in the museum.
Torture today ...
While commuting in this part of the museum between laughing and disgusting, at the end of the exhibition one is brought back to the ground of reality: the history of torture is still relevant today - especially in war zones is being tortured as before. This section is also devoted to a small area in the museum, which was created in collaboration with Amnesty International.
Conclusion: A serious issue mixed with bizarre 'edutainment' and odd charm in a bunker of World War II - a visit is worth it.

Anaheim Mixtape Vol. 2 features talented Hip Hop artist Overcome from Fresno, CA with his hit single Zonin.
"Very excited about a new artist I met while rocking a show for the community in Fresno with long time friend Cindy Holy Jamz. I was able to talk to Overcome for a while. He was a very polite and humble young man. He caught my attention and I heard him out. He told me he is holding down a job, married and is blessed with children. His humility and love for the Lord is what I caught. He gave me a CD to listen too and I promised him that I would check it out. While on tour and driving across the country I decided to listen to the music. I was amazed at the talent and quality of this artist. I immediately called Overcome thanking him for an amazing CD that he blessed me with. I encourage the community of Central California to keep this young man in prayer. He has the talent, drive, character and quality to change the way the world looks at the WEST Coast. The new face of the GOSPEL HIP HOP GENRE coming out of the West Coast is Overcome. Blessed to have Overcome on our Anaheim Mixtape Vol.2." - Dr. Robert "Battle Ax" Ornelas from The S.O.G. Crew

not so successful dog class yesterday.
still taking matea weekly to classes to help her overcome her fear issues...and to improve my handling skills when around other dogs.
because her issue with other dogs is based on fear (thank you dog parks!), my trainer is trying to convince me to not come down on matea for attempting to go for a dog, but instead to work on her focus on me (which i totally have unless a dominant dog comes along) and that if an incident DOES occur that i'm to work on 'recovery' more than anything. for instance, when matea wouldn't take shit from cheryl (the trainer)'s jack russell some weeks ago and went for the little tart, cheryl simply pulled matea off, held her for three seconds by the beard, and then - in a very happy voice - said: "okay, let's play!"
at the time, i didn't feel that was enough. matea is a black and white dog. she NEEDS extreme positive AND negative for her to understand definitions and boundaries. i learned this early on in my training with her, when eight months of positive-only training got me nothing but a dog requiring constant food-lures...but when outdoors or otherwise distracted, let me tell you, a bleeding strip of sirloin ain't gonna capture her attention.
she's a wirehaired pointer. i talk to other GWP owners on a group, and i hear over and over again that these are not typical dogs, that they aren't the kind of dog most trainers are accustomed to. i'm tending to agree.
so...yesterday, i was at class, on the bench at the far side of the classroom, getting treats ready, when in comes this nitwit woman (i won't speak of race because i'll only come across as racist...but suffice it to say, she was in her own world with her own language, and was utterly oblivious to others in the class)...well, in fact, it wasn't her coming in...it was her dog hauling her in...a chow cross, i heard her say to someone else, but it looked like a chow/jindo dog...tall, muscular, 1 1/2 times matea's size, tail erect and clearly dominant. (in fact, i saw his dominance very clearly at the end of class with another dog.) he barges through the door, dragging his owner behind him, at the end of his 6' leash, making a diagonal, bee-line right for matea across the classroom. even one of the regular students (a woman who helps with a LOT of the training classes and has a lot of respect for matea) told me afterwards that she couldn't believe what was going on. AND she said that her rottie, too, perked up the second the dog blasted into class because of its attitude.
the owner - completely in her own oblivious, self-absorbed, ignorant world - didn't even seem to notice, or care, that her dog had practically charged matea and was on her ass. the most i could do was stand and try to push the dog away. i should have been more forceful. i should have said something to the woman beforehand, but i don't want to make waves in the class.
still, the dipshit didn't even notice, and the dog was dragged away only slightly because she was trying to make her way to the bench to ready herself for class. it was at that point that matea lunged. yes, i caught her in time. in fact, the rottie-handler (after class) praised me for my handling of the situation.
but here's the thing... my gut reaction is to put matea down, to make sure she knows - without a doubt - that lunging at dogs, regardless of the dog, is NOT appropriate. a three-second censure, get her attention on me, show her my disapproval, and THEN focus on recovery. but no....cheryl swoops in, all positive and happy, trying - with great difficulty - to draw matea's attention from the other dog. she'a fucking GWP!!! no WAY is ANYONE or ANYTHING getting her attention off that 'threat' in any manner. i know she's a dog...i know a lot of her character is not unique, but i've yet to find a trainer who's actually had experience with this breed and its drives. and let me tell you, it IS a drive unlike any other.
my legs were shaking, i felt like crying, and i just wanted to leave. of course, the oblivious owner quickly moved to the other side of the classroom like *I* was the only one with an out-of-control dog. and then, even as i was trying to work with matea, to regain her focus in spite of the other dog's presence, the dipshit STILL continued to ignore her dog. it sat behind her (yes, her back turned to her own dog), its leash lying on the floor, again completely oblivious. the dog would have been on top of matea before the woman ever even realized he'd broken his stay.
i'm angry. i'm disappointed. i'm seeing matea acting out more in class, not less. i need to talk to cheryl, to hopefully convince her that, in spite of her years of experience, she HASN'T seen everything, that she hasn't worked with every kind of dog....and to maybe convince her that i might just know more in regards to my GWP.
seriously, as much as i adore cesar millan, if he offered to take matea for a period of time, i wouldn't let him. i feel that although he and others are obviously FAR more experienced than i am, they don't know this kind of dog...that even though matea's never hurt another dog, most trainers would underestimate her potential to do so, they would underestimate her drive to make a point. so....i need to sit down with cheryl again, see if anything can be done. in the meantime, i hold back my tears and love this dog in spite of the dangerous potential i know lies within her.
oh, and i also intend to discuss with cheryl that she consider addressing her students (current and future) on the proper way to bring dogs into any facility....pack leader first, goddammit. of the dogs that matea has had issue with, they're ALL the ones who drag their owners through the front door.
sorry for the dump. i guess the thing that sucks the most about this is that if not for this dog-issue of matea's, in spite of my fantastic imagination, i could NOT imagine a more perfect dog and best friend.
