In 2021 the monks of the Park Abbey (Leuven – Belgium) celebrate the 900th anniversary of their order: the Norbertines.
Norbert was born in around 1080 in Gennep, a town that is nowadays in the Netherlands, near to the German border. As the second son of the Count of Gennep, Norbert was destined for a fine career in the service of the Holy Roman Empire. But fate decided otherwise.
One day, when he was out riding, a flash of lighting made his horse rear. Norbert was thrown to the ground. It was a moment of great impact, in every sense. On regaining consciousness, Norbert vowed to live a simple life of poverty. He renounced his wealth and privilege and became a poor itinerant preacher. Gradually, the thought of founding his own religious order grew in him. Norbert requested and received papal permission to do this and on Christmas Night, 1121, in Prémontré, northern France, Norbert and his followers founded the first Premonstratensian abbey: the Norbertine Order had been born.
Throughout the twelfth century, the Norbertine Order expanded considerably, especially in the Low Countries. Several other abbeys were founded, among them, in 1129, our own Park Abbey. Park Abbey flourished and grew to become an important religious, economic and cultural force in the wider area. During its own almost 900 years of existence, it has had a rich and eventful history.
The Order: 1886 re-writes history by introducing a unique vision of Victorian-Era London where myths and technology co-exist. As a member of an elite order of knights, join a centuries-old war that will determine the course of history forever.

Order of St. George, the Canadian Priory. The inspiration for the foundation of the Order are the Statutes which defined the secular Fraternal Society founded by King Károly Róbert of Hungary in 1326. Charity is an important part of the works of the Order, in addition, the Order's Foundation contributes funding in support of our wounded or fallen military personnel and their immediate families through the Military Family Resource Centres, as well as to other worthy causes such as the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Veterans & Community), 56th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, selected initiatives by Christian Churches in Canada and the USA, Royal Canadian Sea, Army and Air Cadet Corps.

I feel this photo shows order but not in the typical way we normally see order. I like how the light hits the leaves. I dislike that the background of this photo is so distracting.
Some back story is required for this one.
Back in the mid 90's I was writing what I hoped could become a published comic book, the story was cosmic in nature and as such dealt with beings outside of the normal laws of time and space.
One of the unfinished concepts was the idea that our universe is simply a giant game of chess, that two creatures "the opponent" and "the grand master" constantly select beings to play off against one another, the ultimate prize, well that was something I hadn't decided.
This was the representation of the force of Order, better known as the grand master. His purpose was to select forces that will end conflict and bring peace on a galactic scale.
(note the concept is very similar to the plot of Babylon Five where the Vorlons and Shadows represented order and chaos, which is why I abandoned the idea in the end).
The picture is a pencil sketch inked in pen on white photocopy paper and was most likely drawn between 1995 and 1998.
I found this image when going through some sketches I filed about 3 years ago.

One thing I wish I could change is the light variation. I dont like how dark the glasses on the left side of photo look. But I do like how the glasses in the center have a sort of sparkle affect from the window and they just look very clean and simple.
