In honor of the 800th Jubilee of the Order of Preachers (1216-2016), The Honorable Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, gave a lecture at the Dominican House of Studies for an evening event on Saint Thomas Aquinas and Law.
Justice Samuel Alito joined the friars for Vespers and Dinner and shared some reflections as well.
This is the only ruin in Ireland accredited as belonging to the Third Order of Saint Dominic.
The Third Orders were lay-people and not clergy. This community of lay-men is in Kilcorban and is (in some way) a spin-off of Athenry and/or Portumna abbeys.
The history is largely undocumented - what are best known are the two statues from this chapel that are on view in the diocesan museum in Loughrea. The Kilcorban Madonna is the better known.
When visiting I found a wooden carving thrown in the ditch behind the chapel. It was clearly a human form and looked quite weathered.
I wrapped it and brought it to the Galway Museum. It turned out to be a pageant prop from the 1980s. It is now back in the corner of the chapel next to the ditch where I found it!

Title: Architectural Orders: Doric order
Description of work: The historic illustrations included in this project were originally published during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many originally appeared in publications that predated the widespread use of photography for art documentation. These engravings, line drawings, and plans reflect both the technological and aesthetic standards of their time. By their very nature, they often represent subjective interpretations of the monuments and works depicted, and as such they offer fascinating insights into the cultural values of art and architectural history during the formative years of these disciplines. In the context of these images the terms ""reconstruction"" and ""rendering"" have been used to distinguish between the artists' speculative reconstruction of a ruined work from the artists' perspective drawing or rendition of the design.

I hope someday somebody wants to hold you for 20 minutes straight and that's all they do. They don't pull away. They don't look at your face. They don't try to kiss you. All they do is wrap you up in their arms without an ounce of selfishness in it.

Sadly, I didn't get a chance to do this. I had this great plan to go and color scan this and print it out and take a photograph for my SP of the day doing so. I had a great day with a friend of mine, but had a rough day emotionally and just didn't get around to it. All apologies.
