This 1999 Scania T-Cab was seen parked in a yard within Charlesfield Industrial Estate, St. Boswells, Scotland. It's an original factory built example and not a third party conversion unlike many bullnose Scanias, and was imported into the UK in 2007. The vehicle previously belonged to Coussens Heavy Haulage & Crane Hire, who were possibly its first operator after its arrival in Britain. Who owns it now is unknown, and it's marked as SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification), but interestingly has a valid MOT until July 2025.

Hamilton, London.

Neoplan N2216 C61Ft, new in 2015.

Photographed in Winchester, December 2016.

For the very first time since it was built 3 years ago, Optare Metrodecker number 1 finally carried passengers in service on August 14th 2017 - and it did so running First York's Silver Line 9 P&R service which just so happens to be the closest main route to my house. This bus was built in 2014 as the first truely Optare-designed double decker in nearly 15 years since the Spectra (The Rapta never really left the starting blocks) and was given the display plate of OP14 ARE, however the plates were never used on the road as the vehicle never carried passengers and was only on road runs to test the concept out. Over this past week the process was undertaken to finally give this it's true registration and it now bears the plates of YJ17 FXX. For several months it had been at Magtech in Rotherham to be fitted with a fully electric powerplant so as to convert this into a Metrodecker EV - the eventual aim is for Optare to offer both electric and diesel versions of this, but to use Optare's modular engine system so that if an operator decided to convert a diesel-engined Metrodecker to electric then the entire powerplant can be slid out on a tray and replaced with ease. To get the system certified has required several months of testing including a few turns around the MIRA testing facility in Bedfordshire, which set back some timescales for its entry onto the demonstration circuit....

The first client to receive this as a demonstrator is First York in order to make preparations for an order of these to run on the Park and Ride network. This was originally due to demo in York during March 2017, then postponed to May, and now the trials have finally started - there are only a few select destinations on the roller blinds though as this is to focus on just a handful of routes. As York is the closest suitable operating area to the Optare factory to test electric buses, a few Optare EV's have been seen on the city streets - the last time it was here it had been on engineers' road tests for three evenings to test if it was working without issue. The bus currently carries no fleetnumbers, though the general assumption is that this will be referred to as 39500 - the x9xxx fleetnumber series is usually allocated to electric and hybrid buses. The vehicle is built to TfL specification complete with McKenna (Mobitech) Smart Blinds, centre doors with powered wheelchair ramp, and is also ready for use with the 'iBus' system used in London; after York has popped the metrodeckers' cherry it will eventually work it's way into use with Go-Ahead in the capital for comparison against a diesel metrodecker they had a while back.

The interior feels light and airy thanks to LED ambient uplighting across the ceiling (though only the offside strips were working when I was on board), large windows, and a "sea and sky" wall panel colour pallette of light blue and off-white. The seat moquette choice is an odd one as it was the Yorkshire Coastliner moquette from 2011 until 2016 (later on in this period it was adopted for use in other Transdev Blazefield fleets too), and so this combined with the orange grabrails gives a mixture of Transdev and Stagecoach touches. A CCTV monitor at the bottom of the staircase switches between various camera views as an aid to passengers to see which seats upstairs are available. Other neat little touches I like are the wall panels either side of the staircase - one provides illumination of the staircase to give the impression of a frosted window being there but without the need for a real window, whilst the panel after the drivers' door illuminated when the passengers doors are open to provide indirect glare-free illumination of the aisle and luggage space; an LED halo illuminates above the boarding platform when the doors are open. The lower deck seats 20 in this configuration with almost all the seats after the centre door, all except a singular 'billy seat' located just behind the boarding platform. Upstairs the front seats are lacking a little in legroom, however the views offered are much better than on a Streetdeck as the Metrodecker's A-pillars are not half a mile wide, whilst the seats specified in this are slightly more comfortable than on ADL E400MMC demonstrator YX64VOO. Acceleration from a standing start is excellent for an 18-ton double decker, and whilst the hum of the electric motor is audible wherever you sit the sound is at a low enough level to fade into the background

Austin has some of the attributes that increase the odds of passing BUD/S; to quote an article

(found at:

www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-navy-seals-recruit-athl...) :

"...water polo players had the greatest odds..."

and:

"Regular participation in several alternative sports, like skiing...were also shown to increase the odds..."

Austin is a serious water polo player, and Skier...now if they added avid (perhaps *rabid*, as he *always* wants to go play) Airsoft player (similar to Paintball but with replica real-world weapons), there just might be a winning formula for recruiting future Navy Seals / Spec Ops ;-)

Picture of Austin looking like a mini-me version (during morning rules) of an 'Operator' out at an airsoft field yesterday. This is a pic of how he chooses to look (seriously).

I post this only because I have a feeling he'll go Spec Ops in the future and want this as proof that I knew it was going to happen (seriously)...which also means I'll have to delete this and all pics I've *ever* posted of him if it happens :-(

After the storm passed through, and I got back to Cloverdale, CA., I noticed the 60X was due into town at any moment, so I headed to Cloverdale Plaza. To my surprise I found Sonoma County Transit Bus 211, a 2010 Orion VII-CNG, which I caught earlier today at the Santa Rosa Transit Mall and then again in Windsor, CA., sitting here on the layover.

Shorly after my arrival, the 60X with a 2014 Eldorado National Axess BRT-CNG came into town and had a very friendly driver!
