We're working on a soundscape (among a bunch of other things) for a lovely perfume retailer, this is a shot of the controller software thus far.

Oh, the concept for the store, and therefore the soundscape, is that of an aviary. (the store is on Avery road in London)

The visuals have not received any TLC yet as we're still laying the groundwork.

Basically blue dots are stationary sound, any other colour (green in this case) are moving sounds, their mix into each speaker is determined by their position in 2D space. These sounds are Mono.

The red sphere is where my mouse is and has a sound attached so I can test the sound positioning.

Then there are Ambient sounds are either Mono and sent to a certain set of speakers or Stereo where the relevant channel is sent to whatever speakers we have chosen.

Progress on this has been a little slow lately, but now by defining a few points (0, X,Y and Z axis) in the image that I know match a cube in the real space, I can have the POSIT [0] algorithm generate a virtual camera pose and viewport to match, which I can then fine tune.

After that the 2D position of the tracked object is projected into 3D space, and by combining the two I can get a 3D location.

Since I know the measurements in real space (a 2 metre cube in this case) I can match that to reality. At least this is the idea.

I still need to check if the values make sense as I move across, in the test video I am stopping at 50 cm intervals and lower the orange 1.5 metres.

Accuracy is a big problem of course, so many inaccurate things are building on top of each other, but this will come in handy for other project someday I'm sure.

Thanks to Zach Gage and Memo Akten for the *awesome* class. It was amazingly fun to go from a blank iPhone+oF project all the way through a working Pong implementation!

I've been working a bit on the video tracking part of the project.

The idea is that two cameras are used, one for XY and one for Z.

Here for debugging I'm using the same video on both, a short clip of peach I tied one a piece of string, but I need to set up a small test bed for this soon.

A bit of filtering and you have yourself the blob you are interested in and can transform from the camera positions into virtual space. The exact filtering steps will probably change later, now I get away with just some thresholding and erosion.

On the electronics side I've just taken delivery of one of these motors:

www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProdu...

It's pretty powerful, and a lot more directed than the fan I was using.
