Harmless to folks and crops and too heavy to fly...just scary looking.
"Brachystola magna, the plains lubber grasshopper, western lubber grasshopper or homesteader, is a large species of grasshopper in the family Romaleidae, native to open and semi-open habitats of central and southern United States and northern Mexico.
Adults are typically 4–6 cm (1.6–2.4 in) long, with females growing larger than males.[ It is reddish brown with black dots on its outer wings, however there is some variation in coloration, with more northern variants tending to be greener, and southern ones more brownish-buff. Brachystola magna has extremely small wings and is unable to fly. The antennae are bluish-brown and the legs are reddish near the body with purple tarsi. It has a ridge along the upper and middle region of the abdomen. It is distinguished from Brachystola virescens by its longer antennae and color.
In Wyoming it is found on gravelly ground in the southwest of the state. It does not cause significant damage to crops, and seems to prefer coarse broadleaved plants to crops. It overwinters in the egg, which hatch in the spring and reach adulthood in August.

When fall rolls around, this is the area I love to travel to! Even if it's late in the season, I still enjoy it. This is up around.Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, down through Augusta and then into Black River Falls: What a beautiful drive! ...and it's even better, if the fall colors are still around!
Usually, I just go as far as Augusta, but this year I lengthened my drive a bit, stretching into Eau Claire. When I was driving back south, I saw this beauty of a barn with the colorful trees in its background. Nice! Hope you all enjoy as much as I do!

I have hundreds of books which are mainly arranged by subject and size, so the choices are manifold

Corrieshalloch is one of the most spectacular gorges of its type in Britain and provides striking evidence of how glacial meltwater can create deep gorges.
A short steep walk will bring you to a Victorian suspension bridge, where you can gaze down over a series of crashing waterfalls.
Corrieshalloch Gorge is designated a National Nature Reserve in recognition of the gorge and the surrounding woodland. It’s also home to a nationally rare species of cranefly, which benefits from the wet dead wood in the shaded areas of the property.
This mile-long canyon, through which the River Droma rushes, takes its name from the Gaelic for ‘ugly hollow’. But that’s as far from the truth as can be.

Some people say that we all are alone.
I believe there is a connection between all human beings, we just have to open our eyes and to walk in direction of the others.
Haven't been out for a night time stroll with a camera for ages, just felt the need to the other night. As I wandered the streets the sky was lit up by lightning over the sea.
I shot several images here as I noticed a few seagulls was flying around this area, I was very lucky to get this shot with its reflection on one of the windows! I like the lines and the image itself very much, random..but I like it!

On an otherwise cloudy and drab evening, a burst of color sticks out among the gray concrete of the Hardy Toll Road in north Houston. UP 1979, the "We are One" commemorative locomotive, wears a unique and colorful livery to honor UP's employee resource groups.
It's seen here waiting on a new crew at Parker to take the train north out of Houston on UP's Palestine Sub. The Palestine Sub is known as "The Toll Road" since it runs between and alongside the Hardy Toll Road for the first 15 miles out of Houston.

It’s too darn hot! I’m falling back on some photos I took earlier this month because I don’t want to go outside. Which leads me to the one thing about Lynch Canyon Open Space Park I wish were different – on the days it is open (only 2 or 3 days each week) the hours are between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm – which puts you out in the blazing sun, and eliminates any golden hour opportunities for photography. There is no walk-in workaround or inviting holes in the fence solution, either – not that I would ever do any such thing, of course. Ahem. I’m sure it’s a budget thing. :-(
