A quick walkabout our garden reveled a treasure trove of fungi.

Top left: Purple Jelly-disc or Jelly-cup - one I'd never seen before.

Top right: Honey Fungus

Bottom right: Sulphur Tufts

Bottom left: Hairy Curtain Crust (?) & Smoky Polypore on a felled/dead beech tree

I wouldn't dream of trying to identify or even eat any of these. We have an estate forager for that! He takes our cottage guests out and about on foraging walks.

Yesterday I found an un-checked Euro Millions Lottery ticket from 27th July 2012, when I typed the numbers into the online checker I found that I had won the princely sum of £2.80 !!!!

Well today as soon as the local shop opened I was in there like a rat up a drain pipe to collect my winnings.

Despite a dire weather forecast, the day actually ended up quite nice. Took a walk before dinner. Despite appearances this is not a cloud, it's steam from the power station which has been working flat out today.

Living directly on a flight path I no longer photograph planes anymore unless something special comes in and I just happen to be in the garden, or if something comes in at a different angle. Today this helicopter came in at a different angle and quite low so I gave it a bit of my attention. This is the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

Another day of sport photos

Took at little bag out on my walk today and brought home a few bits to photograph. Not the best specimens, but was keen to photograph my new little vases.

Noticed a new bud poking through the leaf above it today. Sort of reminds me of a seahorse.

The Rookery is not so far away, and several times a day they fly above my house, headed for the fields for a peck around. Here they are taking a moment, mid-way between the rookery and the field in the late afternoon sun.

I didn't know Marion Smith (1947-2020) but this is her memorial bench in Queens Park Loughborough. Amongst other things she was a keen bee keeper, chair of Loughborough in bloom, an international athlete and a councillor at the Borough Council. The pigeons seem to like her bench, I think perhaps park visitors are putting food there.

2 October.... and it's raining, there's always a macro shot to fall-back on, and my 'other job' as a bespoke jewellery designer and photographer. Now who wants to buy this beautiful sapphire and diamond ring?!

Please note that sites using my jewellery images without permission will be detected. Unbelievably one company actually attempted to sell our designs off their website using only my images!

I am very happy to provide content for blogs and articles but please ask my permission and remember you always need to cite me and Rumour Jewellery as the source.

Similar scene to another I took for the challenge this week... but too good to not use.

My good neighbours have chickens and sometimes a few come my way. This week 4 hens eggs and 2 smaller Bantam eggs, and I've had some of them poached on wholemeal toast for lunch today.

For a lot of my life I didn't really like fruit; it wasn't a taste thing, more I couldn't bear the texture of it. I'm pleased to say that has (for the most part) changed and I eat a lot more. Today was a first for me, I ate a fig. It has to be said though that the prime reason for buying the fig was to photograph it.

As usual for my still life shots, I had no clear idea of what I was going to do - it just evolved by trying different backgrounds, bases, props and light. Ended up with black background, natural light and reflector.

Shot taken for my October Picture a day challenge.

So after realising that I had missed the start (but bluffing my way back into the game) I have at least tried to produce a photograph specifically for the October Challenge. Here you go... obviously I ran out of time, so a night shot with one hour to go is what I am offering. Take it or leave it!

This is a shot of my beloved Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM wide angle lens.

I bought it in January of this year and it is the most favourite of my lenses and is the one lens that is always in my bag when I go out.

Unfortunately yesterday whilst on an URBEX trip with Steve K - my tripod with camera and the above lens toppled over and the lens is no more.

I turned round and can only describe what I saw as a slow motion sequence where the tripod was falling away from me and I was unable to get to it in time before it hit the floor.

The lens hood met the ground first and smashed into the three peices as seen above and the front of the lens hit the ground almost square on - amazingly neither the filter or the glass of the lens suffered even a scratch - about a third of the metal flange (in-front of the gold ring has gone and both the AF and manual focusng are totally kaput - the zoom still works however as can bee seen in the shot the focus it stuck beyond infinity..........

A call to the household insurance people will be made tomorrow...........

I have checked over the camera and it appears to have suffered no damage whatsoever - quality kit them Nikons !!

Walking up to Haytor I met Simon who has invented an offroad ponytrap for the disabled. Obviously I had a go with it! He's looking for more opportunities to use this machine, and it looks like a good thing for a bit of crowd-funding.

The Garden of The George Public House in Earley, Reading on the bank of the river Loddon. Didn't have time even for a swift half ...

I have decided to use my nifty-fifty for this year's October Challenge. I couldn't resist popping my Raynox macro convertor on, today, when I spotted this spider on the window. Hope that's not considered to be cheating.

Really did leave it to the last second - very rainy night and I was all out of ideas so decided to shoot my iPhone showing the time and use the traffic lights and street lamps as the backdrop - the rain on the window and the wide apature created some interesting and colourful Bokeh.....
