I must have chosen the only dull part of the day to go out today, but nevertheless pleased to have spotted this female Stonechat.

With no photos taken during daylight hours I had to come up with something indoors. I'd bought these pumpkins last year, but never used them
No Entry - Fire in progress
This is my 17th submission for the October 2012 A month in Pictures project.

Had just got back into my taxi this morning after purchasing my first coffee of the day when I heard our controller saying something over the two-way radio about a bus being on fire in the City.
It turned out to be in a street not far from where I was parked - well what could I do but go have a look.....
When I got there two Fire appliances from Chelmsford Fire Station were on the scene and the fire was out however a large amount of smoke/steam was still eminating from the back of the vehicle....
I parked up and jumped out of the car - It was still fairly dark (it was only just 07:30) so I upped the ISO to 400 but was still getting low shutter speeds...
I then upped the ISO to 1250 - don't ask why I chose that but I did.......
Anyway - I rattled off a few shots from different angles - and heres one of them.
A bit later on after checking the shots I decided to call the local paper (Essex Chronicle) but thats a story for another day.....
Nikon D7000
Nikon 35mm lens
F3.5 @ 1/100 second exposure
ISO 1250 (yes really)
I saw this bug stuck on a web and thought I'd take a few shots and then rescue it. It was struggling so much it's a wonder I got a shot, and it's not as sharp as I would have liked. Luckily the spider was nowhere in sight, and the bug escaped anyway.
Photo 9/10 for the October picture a day group.
As I'm still editing music festival photos, it was another camera phone day.
Decided I'd sat in front of the PC for long enough and went out in the late afternoon sunshine. The circuit round the village is only a mile so was soon back at work!
Day 29 October Challenge
A fruit of the passion flower, that is! And a bit of a mangy looking one at that. We've never had a passion flower before, so intrigued by the fruits we picked one and cut it open - how disappointing! Nothing in there but a few seeds. It was starting to rain again, so quickly grabbed the camera and spotted this through the kitchen door, and took a quick shot before I got too wet.
28 October. The River Exe in full flow after the recent storms. 2 second exposure using a Lee Big Stopper filter. Didn't have a tripod with me, so most shots didn't come out, not helped by the rain starting up again.

I've passed this in the car a few times, but took a walk to get a photo with my phone as it had been raining quite a bit.

Day 2 of the October challenge (which I forgot... so please excuse poor artistic standards for the first 8 entries!). This one's ok luckily
A Fly Agaric toadstool a highly poisonous mushroom; the primary effects usually involve the central nervous system, and in severe poisoning, symptoms may manifest with coma and in rare cases lead to death.
18 October. I've taken shots from this place many times... but the waves today were incredible so good that there were no trains coming down the line! Very windy and raining hard.. so taken with an umbrella overhead.

Ok, ok, I know I've made this shot before here but that was six months ago now...

You can lose a lot of time doing oil and water photography, view your LCD and think you've got a got shot and then be disappointed when you get in on the PC. And of course you've packed up all your gear by then and there's no time to do it again. So whilst I like the overall pattern and shapes of this oil and water shot I know there are faults and I can do better. Maybe later in the month I'll have another go. It does look best viewed large I think.

So when you hear this autumn song
Clear your heads and get ready to run
So when you hear this autumn song
Yesterday 100's if not thousands of people at East Midlands Airport were disappointed when the Vulcan veered off before it got to EMA so it was just a pinprick in a cold and bleak grey sky. The reasons for this vary according to what you read. Well done to the Vulcan people though, they altered the schedule and it came back to us today. A much brighter day too. I guess there are thousands of similar photos out there, but this is my memory of the last time I'll see her in flight.
Lots of people are having their go at an image to commemorate the sad passing of Steve Jobs... so I thought I'd add my one in too.
This is my original apple image being viewed at original size via Flickr on my iMac.... the apple image is not photo-shopped in by the way! View On White

I couldn't help but be inspired by today's initial entries in The October Challenge so have decided to shoot a flower too.
When the car went into "Limp Home Mode" I expect that the poor owner of this Range Rover didn't think that the car actually meant "on foot matey!"
I was only a little miffed as I had just cleared up all the rubbish and fly-tipping from this road on Sunday. Unusal to see a £90,000 mess, it's usually just coke cans and McDonalds rubbish.
The architect's sketch from the 1930s vs the same room today. Not much has changed, apart from biomass-heated radiators instead of the electric bar fire.

Shot taken for the Photo-a-day-for-a-month group . This is my photo for 8th October, and also for my weekly contribution to the View 52 Group.
www.flickr.com/groups/view52/. This is my Week 41 shot.
I went a walk around the village looking for today's photo, and made a last minute decision to walk a bit further to the bridge over the river in the hope that a heron might be sitting there waiting to be photographed (it wasn't). This man was coming towards me then stopped. Thinking he looked a bit shifty I crossed over to the other side of the bridge to take a photo of a narrowboat with smoke coming out of it's chimney and logs on its roof. Doh! It was the man's boat and he was just getting more logs for fuel. He said something to me about if I took his photo it might break the lens, which opened the door to me taking his photo. I realise now of course that when he stopped before I think he wanted me to take his photo then.
I've tried bleach bypass processing on this.
For my View 52, I'm doing a different theme every 4 weeks and for Weeks 41-44 I'm going to do Autumn. Whilst I have taken shots that more obviously shout "Autumn" I've decided to go with this as my best shot of the week as gathering logs in for Winter is an Autumn activity.

Day 23 October Challenge
I promised an 'after' picture of Hec the boat, when he had been planted with the spring flowers, but of course, the pansies are not in flower and the bulbs are very sensibly lurking in the soil, so I decided the lights he has on him in the evening would be much more interesting!
