This time of year many large jacaranda trees in Brisbane are in full purple bloom.

Many parks & gardens have these picturesque trees with the ground covered in the purple haze of fallen flowers.

The flowering jacaranda's signal to high school & university students it's study time for looming final exams.

In my suburb we don't have many jacaranda trees, but I'm always pleased to see this small tree in flower, highlighting the colour against the dark green of the wetlands.

Day 14 October Challenge

Really disappointed the admins can't do anything about this horrid grey, damp weather - the photos would be so much better with a bit of sunshine!

Luckily for me, today, this tractor pulled across the footpath in front of us with a bag full of presumably seed, ready for the other tractor in the field, which was busy harrowing. Bad news for us, this means the footpath across the field will have disappeared again, and a walk across it will mean half-hundredweight boots, with all the mud clinging to the bottoms of them! Our walks become more restricted as the winter wears on, as one by one all the paths get ploughed up and become unwalkable. (OK, grumble over!!)

Day 9 October Challenge

This is Hec the boat in our front garden, still clad in his summer begonias, but shortly to be in his winter garb of pansies - expect an 'after' photo but please don't hold your breath, I went out today intending to do it, but ended up sorting out the little wild flower patch!

My next photo will be from somewhere quite different. I'll keep you in suspense for a bit longer. Now it is just airport waiting.Day 17 of 31

October, a photo-a-day, 7/31.

Another sunset, another dog shot! Time was too short today, best I can do.

October Challenge day 10

A venture into the next village, Long Melford - principally to do a wee bit of shopping and go to the bottle bank, but also to have a stroll. It's beginning to look very autumnal now, along here.

Gorgeous new piece from Justine "Juzpop" Millsom in Coburg.

Macro Monday - Found in the kitchen

Part of a rotary grater. HMM

These are the same lilies from day 1 & I'm enjoying creating different effects.

This morning I placed the vase against the window with morning light & the greenery outside the window creating beautiful bokeh.

The edges of the leaves are starting to wilt, so more photos to come.

Day 12 October Challenge

A dull dreary day, weather-wise, so I was quite expecting to be photographing flowers in the garden for the challenge, but I spotted this hornet feeding on ivy while out with Dodgie - and fortunately had taken one of my old Canons with the 105mm lens attached - but being the coward that I am, I didn't want to get too close to this chap, thank you!

Day 3 October Challenge

Poor things, they were beautiful when I brought them home, all shiny and splitting open their case. A week on the kitchen windowsill hasn't done them much good!

The horrid wet weather today has given me a chance to get out the lens adapter and the 50mm Canon lens to have a bit of a 'fiddle'. The Fuji camera I'm using is fairly new, new enough for me to not quite know what all the buttons do yet, and the 50mm with the adapter is a wee bit of a challenge in itself, as it can only be focused manually with no adjustments on the aperture - but I like using it!

Blake, such a beautiful boy, the younger of my daughters two rescue greyhounds.

Day 7 October Challenge

Dodge and my son's dog Twiiglet, a rumanian rescue, were keen to pose this afternoon on our walk! (Sorry, dogs again - they're not usually that keen to have their photograph taken!)

The latest arrangement in the gardener's bothy window at Calke Abbey.

I can't retrieve pictures from my Canon for another day.

Balls! Now it's gone into Explore as a sub... and it's not the picture I wanted for the 21 October!

Not much free time today, so a good standby go-to shot is of the nearby 3 trees.

Photo 1/31 for October Picture a day.

I took a photo as soon as I got up today, but late this afternoon realised I'd included part of an original art work and thought of the copyright issues. So out for a quick walk for a cliche shot to start off the challenge!

On a grass verge close to home.

End of a day rather than the beginning today

So, is it a bad sign if it's only day four of the October Photo-a-day challenge and I'm already resorting to photographing my Slash bobble-head character?

A gorgeous new piece from Amanda Newman in Richmond, I love those red flowering gum flowers especially.

October Photo-a-day challenge, 14/31.

Hmm, it has not really been a good day has it....? The UK government's trick or treat ideas aren't making me laugh and the neighbour's kitten has been possessed.

Photo 4/31 October Picture a Day

This was the last photo I took today. I'd got a few half hearted town shots so took a half hour stroll around the cemetery which usually yields a shot or two. Just look at his bright autumn colouring.

Not the greatest photo, but the best one from today, from my walk in Woodlands with Luna this morning.

October photo-a-day challenge, 17/31.

Decided to award myself some still life time today to get some practice in with my newest kit, Magmod light modifiers. Unfortunately I haven't done a still life for a while, and forgot two key things - dust your subjects and check shots on computer before packing away setup.

The only shot I took for 27 October, so it will have to do!

Did you know that the cloud visible through the Milky Way is in fact a nearby satellite galaxy?

The theme for the week is Night Sky. My 5d is back from Canon just in time to take this for the weekly theme and just as the skies cleared for one night.

Day 28 October Challenge

A little trek down one hill and up the next to Boxted, a hamlet near to our village of Glemsford. This dear little church was once the estate church for the local landed gentry, who's hall is nearby - well, through the churchyard and down the field, actually. AND I took a spare battery! I wanted to use the same camera as yesterday, to make sure the thing is not on the blink. I don't think it is, just in a strop because it hadn't been used for a while!

When you are a Great Dane needing somewhere to lay your head, why not have an entire coffe table/ footstool.

I think maybe my chrysanthemums are a little late this year. Went to check on them and saw this tiny bug.

The winter wheat is coming up

The theme this week is "Stairs". These are the main stairs in our Art Deco house, I took some shots which encompassed the spiral chandelier but they didn't show the main subject so well.

Also using this photo for my 114 Pictures in 2014 Project, No. 97. Splash.

I set up for a water drop session and had taken only a few shots when the battery packed up, and then also the spare (I swear I charged them!) So not the best water droplet shot I've ever done, I may revisit later in the month.

Day 19 October Challenge

My clematis cirrhosa Jingle Bells has started to flower very early this year. It's a fairly new plant, it flowered for the first time last year in February
