Obu: Say WHAAAAAA!?!?

Deutsche Beschreibung:

Description in English:

This vehicle was restored to an exemplary standard by the dedicated members of the “Obus-Museum Solingen” association. It is a type "ÜHIIIs" car. This marking means that it was manufactured jointly by Waggonbau Uerdingen ("Ü") and the company Henschel & Sohn in Kassel ("H"). The Roman "III" refers to the standard size of the bus of 11-12 meters. The "s" indicates that it has a self-supporting body. This means that the frame and structure of the car form a solid unit. Two prototypes of the ÜHIIIs were built in 1949 and 1950; Series production then ran from 1951 to 1959. With a total of 62 cars of this type, the Solingen tram was completely converted to trolleybus operation from 1952 onwards. Today, “Obus Solingen” operates the largest of the three existing trolleybus networks in Germany. Car 59 is one of the last cars of its kind delivered. It can easily pull a trailer over the steep Solingen streets, which often happens on special trips.

The Rossendale Transport fleet is now in the process of receiving fleetnumbers in the main Transdev Blazefield series, resulting in some familiar vehicles assuming some unfamiliar identities. Contrasting applications of the transfers are seen here on the first pair of this batch of Volvo B7RLE / Wright, resting at Rochdale. 1707 (ex 201) still wears the 'Rossendalebus' livery introduced in 2010, whilst its Rosso-liveried sister, the former 200 (new as 150), is 1706, barely visible below the driver's cab window.

Deutsche Beschreibung:

English description:

To replace their outdated basic vehicles, the Solinger Stadtwerke trolleybus company created a bus of its own design, the so-called “Trolleybus TS”. A total of 80 of these three-axle vehicles were built; the first entered service in 1968. The truck construction department of Essener Kruppwerke supplied chassis components for these cars, and the body came from the Ludewig brothers' body factory in Essen-Altenessen. Interestingly, the buses of the first TS series already met today's standards of the "low-entry" concept, which had not yet been formulated at the time. This means that they could theoretically be used today in alternation with modern low-floor vehicles without putting people with limited mobility at a disadvantage. (The two later series of the TS trolleybus were no longer really low-floor for technical reasons).

After their time in Solingen, the vehicles were sold to Mendoza, Argentina. In recent years, the Trolleybus Museum has retrieved and refurbished one copy of the first and one of the third series. Car number 68 shown above should, if possible, be approved for driving again. Car 10 will probably remain a pure exhibition piece, having been completely optically refurbished.

This bird is going through some changes in color now and is not quite as beautiful as it was before.

My first time back here since August 1st. Not a good shot, but I still like it. Someday I'll get this shot. I was here about five hours today till I ran out of water. The temperature was in the upper 80s and the humidity was 78% so the real feel was 107.6. It was pretty oppresive and I've had enough close calls with heatstrokes to know when enough is enough. This August is the hottest month that I've ever experienced anywhere. We've had many continuous days of upper 90s and 100 degree weather, but although the temperature was only in the upper 80s today it felt much worse than all those other days. I know that many places around the world are experiencing similar weather, please take care.

The 21 cm Mörser 10 it's for me the iconical image of the German artillery during WW1. It's massive shape it's easily identified.

I think this is an ex-Zürich FBW GTr51 trolleybus which was later sold to Sibiu in Romania. Probably built around 1960.
