Please don't pinch my pictures. If you'd like to use them, then let me know. I probably won't charge, but it's nice to be nice, right?

Confrontation between a belted kingfisher and a red-winged blackbird
Thought I lost all the RAWs, found them again. Older photo over processed, realized I really like this with limited processing. Including more photos of the encounter.
Sunrise at Bilgola Beach, Northern Beaches Sydney Australia.
Filters: Lee - 1x Lee 0.6 ND GH (2stops), 1x Lee Coral 3G ND. both for sky only. I use the Lee 100mm system with 2x filter slots.
Editing: Lightroom for fundamentals -> Photoshop assisted with plugins (Topaz, Alien Skin Exposure 5) to refinement and experimenting with colours, contrast and mood with a series of layers used selectively with layer masks and opacity variations.
What I’m happy with: I think this is a really natural scene that reflects the moment well. I have tried to not over process the shadows as I wanted a more realistic representation of what it looked like at the time.
What I would correct next time: I would like to shoot this again with a better sky.
Cheers
Matt
Sometimes I really hate Flickr sharpening.
Please view large.
I am working on different ways to go about editing to have more control. I'm posting this because its similar to where I want to go.. but seems just a little too over processed--to me at least. But his eyes really do look like that minus some subtle dodging in the center.
We were going to do some joke "senior portrait" style shots with his bass since I was more concerned with testing how well my cheap slaves fired with the B1600. So please ignore the bass and nose shadows :]

a proud gay cat
there's a lot of noise in the background which ill have to put down to over-sharpening and over-processing. am no fancy photoshopper so this is the best i can come up with. charlie is the weirdest of all cats we have. he fancies other male kittens and took no notice of the female counterparts. having said all that, he's the most caring male cat i've ever seen in my life.
Nine RAW photos, heavily cropped, (over-)processed in Registax. The effective focal length is the same as the previous photo in my stream--planets are tiny (in terms of angular size as seen from Earth, anyway).
I thought the 60D's movie crop mode would be ideal for this sort of thing--enabling a huge number of frames to be captured quickly--and this might well have been the case, had I not overexposed and burned out the planet. Good thing the 60D has a manual exposure option in movie mode, which I will surely need to make use of, next time.
Ranger had his friends over to play.
From Left to Right: Blitz, Doodle, Jess, Ranger and Bonnie. I like the shot but WAY over processed it. My intent was to make it look like a cool painting. I think my efforts failed. It makes my eyes hurt.
Decided to play around with one of my shots I took in traffic.. It kind of reminds me of an infrared shot.. It's probably over processed, but who cares right =D
It's been 12 weeks to the day since I ruptured my Achilles tendon, with still a fair way to go.
The downside, amongst others, has been just about no photography.
But thanks to my wonderful partner, managed to get out for a sunset recently :-)
There'll be more to follow from this evening and a number of way over processed shots (Trust me it's easy to spend that time on processing when you've got more than enough on your hands)
In spirit of Halloween, the theme for week 43 in my 52 Weeks was "Spooky." I don't really like over processing images, as to me it's easy to make it seem overdone really quickly but I think this should suffice.
This week was a good one. Sunday I had work then research which was alright, to be honest I wasn't feeling all that great so I had an early night. Monday I had work which was okay, a little busy. I celebrated my mom's birthday on Tuesday and worked earlier that day. Wednesday I had work then training right after work which was annoying, but necessary. After work I just relaxed because I was beat from the day. Thursday I worked a little later than normal and work went by fairly quickly because of how busy it was. After work I met up with Janie for dinner with her family and enjoyed spending quality time with her as I didn't see her in what felt like forever. Friday I had a meeting with a doctor and then after I went to wake Janie up at her house since I was pretty close. I spent the rest of the day working on my own stuff. Saturday I woke up early for a morning run and then cooked my food for the week. After doing stuff at home I went to eat lunch with my friend Chris then later went to go see Janie at her aunty's house. I ended up being so tired from my run earlier (cause I couldn't fall back asleep) that I fell asleep there. All in all a busy week, anxious for this one. I just hope everything I'm expecting and waiting for turns out for the best. Thanks and cheers to your upcoming week!

There is no photo out there that i cannot over process in the name of art, or Alvin, or frank.
From the yacht club or at least from the HWY 3 (it is an interstate)- it rains, there is sun, clouds come and go
Kailua Hawaii
believe it or not this is a listed building :-(
i dont know if this is unique to leeds but back in the day before houses had bathrooms and people had to go to the public baths, they often seemed to be in the same building as the library. while i like the kindle and a glass of wine in the bath myself, i cant imagine doing it with a dozen strangers watching...
not a particular well composed snap as its tricky waiting for a gap in the traffic on york road. its also a bit over processed as it was somewhat dull and gloomy.
if you google 'york road baths leeds' you will see quite a few urban explorer pictures of the inside, some done by people i know here :-)
I headed off the Tanami Track hoping to find some lizards or better still a Spiny Mountain Devil.
All I found was cattle & kangaroo carcasses.
Given that I was driving a Toyota Corolla (don't tell anyone, my image will be scared for life!), I decided I shouldn't vernture any further & headed back to Alice Springs.
I'm not usully a fan of over processing, but it was the only way I could work with the natural colour saturation & still get decent result.
Tanami Desert, Northern Territory, Australia.
I'm taking it back to the past and I'll be seeing you in April my dear friends...
I'll be heading EAST for a 2 weeks or so...see you when I get back.

I know this is a little over processed, but it was a bit bleak otherwise. This is Achmelvich beach, here.
I didn't realise until I got there, but this was the second time I'd been on this beach, the first time being in August a couple of years ago when I drove all around the north west coast. When I was there that time, there were people swimming; this time, in December, there were not. It was freezing. Gorgeous place though. For prettiness, you have to go a long way to beat the beaches up that way.
Emily singing karaoke on the family room floor. I liked the idea of the shot but it really wasn't that great. (it was her whole self stretched out...unposed...pop-up flash..cluttered background. total snapshot, but she looked great).... so I started playing.... and kept playing :) Her other eye didn't look quite right so after I cropped it out and got it down to this, I finally liked it!
A lesson in over-processing.

slowly getting the hang of camera raw and photoshop now! :L Not sure if these images have been over processed as i don't have a great eye for composition so would love some responses and feedback so that I can improve! - perhaps I could straighten it/ edit background, less contrast??
Black and white and a slightly tighter crop of the shot previously posted. Again, this was taken with my camera phone in the pouring rain... Hopefully I haven't over processed it!
Just for you Red... ;-)
McLeans Purple Bus.
I haven't had fun over processing a photo in ages. So I indulged with this one. I might have gone a bit over board, but it was for fun.
Because I couldn't get a 365days shot for the theme in We're Here!, this is just another shot of my big ol' head. I got home from the grocery store, carried my stuff inside, then took the dogs out. I did this shot while waiting on the dogs in the yard and the wind was blowing every-which-way. So I used the shot where my hair wasn't doing three different weird things to use for my 365. THEN, I put it into the photo editing app I have ("Photo Director") and then over-filtered it with one of the "FACE" effects. I think it was called "Light".
Just messing around with facepaint and some conceptual ideas. Its a very harsh slightly over processed edit but it aint for anything important.
Over processed but ... I was lying on my stomach trying to 'frame' the yacht anchored in the bay but ended up really hurting my neck !
There is a tendency to over process a headshot. I know there could be more work done on Cat. But let her natural beauty tell the story.

More fun with neural filters in Photoshop. Converted the summertime beach scene to a lush green wetland with mountains in the distance.
Common Milkweed at Spring Creek Prairie Nebraska.
Perhaps a bit over-processed! Experimenting with layers.

Stylized portrait of a climber at Smith Rock in Oregon. Over processed to the point of annoyance, or fun?

Day 16 of Art Every Day.
Song: Promises, by Fugazi
A reader of my blog emailed and asked if I would do a self-portrait for Art Every Day. She was interested in what song I would choose to with the photo and what kind of photo I would take.
I don't do self-portraits too often. There's a few here and there, but they are over processed and I don't really like any of them. It's just the way I am. Uncomfortable with how I look on film. But I really wanted to do this self portrait thing, simply because I immediately knew what song I would use. So I threw in Fugazi's 13 Songs CD on the way home from work, skipped to the last song and started singing. When I got to my favorite part, I knew I had my photo set up.
Go where you think you want to go
Do everything you were sent here for
Fire at will if you hear that call
Touch your hand to the wall at night
That's been my mantra for a while. The whole song -to me - is about not letting your life be led by other people's promises to you. Because, well, promises are shit. Go out there and do something. Be something. Be someone. Don't hang yourself on someone who isn't going to do and be those things with you, or allow you to be them, or want you to be them.
The photo is processed this way for a reason. The light part represents everything that's out there waiting. In the dark, there's the hand against the wall - a reassurance. A safe place. Touching base with home because it's a bit scary to walk out there alone, walk away from relative comfort, to find something else.
Everyone gets something different out of a song. That's what I get from this one, and this is the photo I got from all that.
This has been your introspection for the evening. Carry on.
update: I decided that i hate this photo. I totally bailed on doing anything really creative tonight. It's Friday and I'm spent.
Panorama of Curiosity images of herself in front of a local butte and at the base of Mount Sharp (to the right of the Mastcam). (This version has more images included than the previous versions I uploaded a few days ago.)
My first set of Self-Portraits since the last time.
I just realized that for the past few days, I treat and color-correct all my pictures in this hyper-stylized, over-processed and almost surreal kinda way. It's not intentional. I promise.
I like it though.
Maybe it's just a phase. In which case, I'll probably grow out of it sometime soon :)
