Soldiers of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), are awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) at Conmy Hall, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va., Mar. 12, 2014. Established in 1943, the EIB is awarded to Army personnel who hold infantry or special forces Military Occupational Specialties. Soldiers must complete a number of prerequisites and pass a battery of tests on basic infantry skills, including areas such as day and night land navigation, first aid, patrol lane tasks and moving under direct fire. The annual test is capped off by a 12-mile foot march, which Soldiers must complete in three hours while carrying an M4 and wearing more than 40 pounds of combat gear. (U.S. Army Photo by Spc. 18th century replacement of the donor panel in the west window of the south aisle of York Minster. This entire panel was replaced William Peckitt and presumably at least partially reflects the damaged original figure in the kneeling pose, with arms outstretched, perhaps formerly offering a model of the window (examples still exist elsewhere in the Minster). Both the aisle west windows of the aisles retain their original glass, though later restorations have left their mark, particularly W.Peckitt who replaced some of the heads and the donor panels at the base of the central lights.
York Minster is England's largest medieval cathedral and almost impossible to do justice to. It has an awesome presence that cannot fail to impress.
Uniquely the cathedral was spared the ravages of the Civil War that decimated the medieval art of most English cathedrals and churches, and it thus possesses the largest collection of medieval glass in Britain throughout most of it's vast windows.
Sadly this fortune was not matched by the Minster's vulnerability to fire which has ravaged the building in 3 major outbreaks, the worst in 1829 when a madman set fire to the precious medieval furniture of the choir, which was destroyed along with the organ and the high vaulted ceiling of the eastern half of the church. Only 11 years after this tragedy a careless workman accidentally set fire to the nave roof, which also lost it's vault. Both roofs were rebuilt in replica, but a further fire caused by lightning strike in 1984 destroyed the south transept roof (rebuilt 4 years later).
Most medieval cathedrals were provided with stone vaulted ceilings precisely to avoid the problems suffered here, but York's builders found that building on such an unprecedentedly large scale brought limitations, thus all the Minster's high ceilings had to be built of wood in imitation of stone. An Achilles' Heel, but a beautiful one!

Gebouw Delftse Poort (Gate of Delft Building) is an office complex consisting of two skyscrapers located on Weena 505 next to the Rotterdam Centraal railway station in Rotterdam. The taller tower's (Until May 2009, the highest office in The Netherlands) height is 151 meters 41 floors and the shorter tower's height is 93 metres 25 floors. Both towers are built over a 4-story multifunctional podium which adjoins the Rotterdam central station. The entire complex has 28 elevators. The gross floor area in the complex is 106,000 square metres and the offices occupy 66,000 sq m.
It was constructed between 1989 and 1992. The cost of the construction is 240,000,000 Guilders, or about US$130,000,000. Due to a metro tunnel running underneath the complex, advanced construction methods were required, allowing only a single underground floor to be built. Since the main user of the building is a Dutch Company called 'Nationale Nederlanden' (National Netherlands) the building is also known as 'Nationale Nederlanden building'. Nationale Nederlanden is the local insurance branch of ING Insurance.

Painting of the Santa Fe Railroad's all-coach passenger train, the El Capitan. It's all-sleeper, luxury equivalent was the Super Chief. This painting hangs in the museum and gift shop, in the Santa Fe train station, in Barstow, California, not far from Historic US 66.

Passage to India: FIU students learn how another culture approaches health care management.
With more than 1.2 billion people, India faces an intensified version of the problems faced by all nations: how to meet a population’s growing healthcare needs.
That challenge was viewed first-hand by 15 FIU Chapman Graduate School of Business students working toward their MBA in Healthcare Management. The group visited India for 10 days last semester, as one of the options to fulfill the Master’s Project in Management class.

On Friday, the embassy staff stood for a moment’s silence in memory of all those lost during the 9/11 terror attacks back in 2001.
City of Rocks State Park
Grant County, New Mexico
The bedrock forming City of Rocks was created 34.9 million years ago by a volcanic eruption. Then over millions of years, erosion sculpted the rock formations seen today.
The eruption was from the Emory Caldera, centered near Hillsboro Peak at the southern end of the Black Range. The eruption was estimated to be a VEI 8 eruption, and it emplaced the Kneeling Nun Tuff, a tuff bed covering an area of 314-square-mile (810 km2), which makes up the bedrock of the park.
The rocks formed were shaped by the weathering of ash-flow tuff, through a combination of freeze-thaw cycles and plant growth. Water enters the crevices, expands when freezing, which widens the cracks. Plant growth in the cracks also contribute to the expansion of the cracks.
