A visit to the National Trust property of Melford Hall in Long Melford. It was the closest National Trust property to Sudbury in Suffolk.
Melford Hall is a stately home in the village of Long Melford, Suffolk, England. It is the ancestral seat of the Parker Baronets.
The hall was mostly constructed in the 16th century, incorporating parts of a medieval building held by the abbots of Bury St Edmunds which had been in use since before 1065. It has similar roots to nearby Kentwell Hall.
It passed from the abbots during the Dissolution of the Monasteries and was later granted by Queen Mary to Sir William Cordell. From Cordell it passed via his sister to Thomas and Mary Savage before being sold back into another male Cordell line. During the Stour Valley Riots of 1642 the house was attacked and damaged by an anti-Catholic crowd. In 1786 it was sold to Harry Parker, son of Admiral Hyde Parker.
Beatrix Potter was a cousin of the family and was a frequent visitor to the hall from the 1890s onwards.
One wing of the hall was gutted by fire in February 1942 but rebuilt after World War II, retaining the external Tudor brickwork with 1950s interior design.
The hall was first opened to the public in 1955 by Ulla, Lady Hyde Parker. In 1960 it passed into the care of the National Trust. It is generally open on weekend afternoons in April and October, and on afternoons from Wednesday to Sunday during May to September.
The Hall grounds host a number of events including the "Big Night Out" every November to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night and from 2013 the annual LeeStock Music Festival.

The Cycladic houses of the island of Santorini take after other islands in the Cyclades, with white limewashed exteriors, white or colorful trim, low-slope roofs enclosed by parapets, and casement windows. This, combined with the island’s dramatic topography, create a unique built environment, with houses being terraced along the steep slope at the top of the caldera’s rim, and rising on the comparatively level ground above. The Cyclades, one of the most scenic parts of Greece, are known for this style of architecture, which is found throughout Santorini.

Royal Arcade,
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
The Arcade was designed by Melbourne architect Charles Webb who won a design competition in1868. Construction on the arcade began in June of 1869 and was completed by May, 1870. The arcade runs between Little Collins Street and the Bourke Street Mall with a 1902 annexe to Elizabeth Street. The arcade originally consisted of 29 shops of various trades including Turkish Baths. In 1892 the automata figures of Gog and Magog were installed at the southern end of the main walkway of the Arcade, flanking Gaunt's Clock.
The Royal Arcade is on the Victorian Heritage Register (nº H0023) and is deemed to be of national significance as it is Australia's oldest surviving arcade and one of of approximately eighteen surviving pre-1870 arcades world-wide.

Philemon Kimutou (22yrs) is part of a CIP suported inititive that teaches youth how to plant and harvest seed potato. "We are enegergetic, and with support we can be successful and earn a livelihood," says Philemon. With many youth flocking to the big cities to earn money, these programs are designed to encourage youth to take up agriculture as a means of earning a living.

College of DuPage’s inaugural Maker Market drew COD students, faculty, staff and members of the community to browse and purchase student makers’ products and services. Hosted by the College’s E2 Emerging Entrepreneurs program, the market comprised COD and community student entrepreneurs in 27 booths and featured a broad range of products and services, including jewelry, hair and skin care products, cleaning services, software and web design, as well as a range of clothing products including custom graphic tees, dress designs and women’s sportswear.

Traditions of Excellence was held on May 13th, 2016 in the Rita (Bedford Hall), and Wyllie Hall. Alumni continue to carry the great legacy of UW-Parkside alumni forward and contribute to the betterment of our society. From the College of Arts and Humanities, Dean Walker presented the Distinguished Alumni and Achievement Award to Dr. Jay Ruud. Damian Evans was also awarded the Distinguished Alumni and Service Award.
From the College of Business, Economics, and Computing, Associate Dean Gee presented Alan Biland with the Distinguished Alumni and Achievement Award. Richard Gorton was also awarded the Distinguished Alumni and Service Award.

The University of Saint Mary Department of Fine Arts presented its annual Christmas Vespers Concert on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014.
The Vespers Concert featured the University Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. William Krusemark, chair of the university’s fine arts department, and the Bells of Saint Mary Handbell Choir, under the direction of Freda Proctor, director of the university’s instrumental musical studies.
The concert’s featured work was American composer Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata,” accompanied by brass and organ. The program also included traditional and modern arrangements of English carols for bells and choir with harp accompaniment.
Student soloists included junior Ashley Muldoon (Bonner Springs, Kan.), junior Hayley Webb (Basehor, Kan.), and sophomore Wila Figueroa (Lansing, Kan.).

The 40th anniversary of the #HistoricHandshakeInSpace of American Brigadier General Thomas Stafford and Russian cosmonaut and national hero Alexey Leonov during the #ApolloSoyuzTestProject on July 17th.
The 46th anniversary of the #MoonLanding on July 20th, when 3 men left our #BlueDot and 2 of them took the very first small steps on a "foreign world" ever - in the name of their team of 400.000 behind and of mankind as a whole.
The 50th anniversary of first Mars encounter of #Mariner4 probe, the first robotic visit to Mars on July 14th.
My cherry on the cake was being able to watch the #PlutoFlyby of #NewHorizons on July 14th with my little son (nearly 5 years old now), whose eyes were glued on the livecast and who was jumping with excitement on his little chair, when people on the screen were waving their flags and cheering and smiling while witnessing history in the making.
I am thankful to live in times were our boundaries are being pushed constantly and mankind dares to boldly go, where nobody has gone before - together, in global teams.
Being able to share this with our little son since his early months and passing on our love of our beautiful blue marble and everything beyond is a precious gift.
Scrolling through pics of our travel adventures made me aware again, how much I am looking forward to the times, when @LightspeedLeo will be old enough to understand what he and his travelbuddy @PinkLilDragon saw and whom they met together during all our adventures with our growing number of @Spaceholix friends from all around the world and also with so many of our #SpaceHeroes and #ScienceHeroes in person and via social media.
I thank all for passing on the torch of inspiration and dedicate my designs to all involved in these historical events of mankind - taking countless small steps, adding up to giant leaps, culminating in #NewHorizons leaving all our planets behind and passing by #Pluto (which will ALWAYS remain a planet in my heart (dwarf or not ;-) )
And I am excited having again hopped on board of the inspiring @OneEarthMessage @NewHorizonsMessage campaign by #VoyagerGoldenRecord design director and GalaxyGarden designer Jon Lomberg and his lovely wife Sharona and their global team, who are working on sending a message to outer space.
So in the name of all @SPACEHOLIX out there - we are on board together now, ready to be sent to @NewHorizons2015.
( I admit being a tad superstitious with numbers, so I waited for my lucky number 113, as 5 years ago "1+1=became3" ;-) )

One acre National Park Service site, SH-6, 1 mile east of Natchez Trace Parkway. Monument: In memory of the men of the Federal and Confederate Armies who took part in the Battle of Tupelo or Harrisburg, July 14-15, 1864 which resulted in a victory for the Federal forces under Major General Andrew J. Smith. One of the Confederate wounded was Forrest, shot in the foot during the fighting.
While I was walking around the battlefield an old fellow stopped his pickup truck, got out and came over to me.. he said when he was young his grandmother who had lived nearby had told him of the terrible noises of the battle.. he recalled that she told him it sounded like "a cane break" on fire. I was touched and honored that he shared the memories with me.

Pictures of Avianca A320s at JFK Airport in NYC on November 3rd & 5th, 2022. Avianca is based in Columbia and is the second largest airline in Latin America. The planes photographed include an A320-214 (tail number N956AV) and two A320-251N (tail numbers N818AV & N962AV). I believe these were all headed to Bogota, Columbia, a five and a half hour flight. These are taken at the Pool Deck on the top floor of the Hughes Wing. This is one of the two buildings for guest rooms adjacent to Eero Sarrinen's iconic TWA Flight Center, that serves as the public spaces for the TWA Hotel. This piece depicts the environment of Venice, Italy during the 1700s. Judging by the different types of boats, the renewable resources that can be seen are wind energy and wave energy. The only intermediate-renewable source in the painting is fresh water, which is being used for transportation. Some fields of study that can be represented in this painting are history, geography, economics, engineering, and anthropology. The artist would most likely have an ecocentric view because the painting depicts how people in Venice coincide with the environment given to them by the geography of the city. The amount of human influence in this picture of Venice is pretty high. Considering there wasn’t a lot of technology to interfere with the environment back then, the people seem to have created an environment more suitable to their favor economically by removing anything natural that existed before. The energy that would be in the landscape would fall under the chemical energy diagram in Figure 2.14 of the textbook because the only energy being used is from the ocean which takes in heat and releases it. The ecosystem is impossible to tell due to human development, but the artist doesn’t seem to be showing the land as he is the ocean. This is the ecosystem that is being portrayed, and the part the artist wants to illustrate. The carbon cycle is an interesting cycle to develop in this representation of the landscape because since there is an absence of vegetation and animals, the only source of carbon would be from the ocean. Thus, the amount of carbon in the atmosphere would become much lower. The food cycle would be very small considering the amount of tampering to the ecosystem. The cycle would consist of soil bacteria from the ocean floor, to earthworms, to toads along the surface. Insects would also be around and taken in by toads and passing birds. The environment would be in a state of primary succession because all life that was there before has been built over. Human interference has caused a halt to any ecosystem being created anytime soon.
According to Wikipedia, the Medal of Honor has been awarded 3,520 times to 3,501 individuals. I've now photographed four of them - so I have some work to do.
The Black Hills National Cemetery is one of the most bucolic of the nation's national cemeteries. Located near Sturgis, SD, just off of I-90 - the setting is just lovely - surrounded by forested hills. One MOH recipient is buried there - Sgt. Charles Windolph. Windolph was a private at the Battle of Little Big Horn (aka Custer's Last Stand), on June 25-26, 1876. Windolph, along with three comrades during the two-day disaster for the US 7th Cavalry, maintained a position to keep the entire command supplied with water.
From Wikipedia: "The 7th Cavalry overall suffered 52 percent casualties [at the battle]. Every soldier of the five companies with Custer was killed. In 1878, the army awarded 24 MOH to participants in the fight on the bluffs for bravery, most for risking their lives to carry water from the river up the hill to the wounded."
Windolph survived the battle, and lived to the age of 98.
