This was my first-ever contribution to the "In Numerical Order" group on flickr. I had recently discovered the group but had not really started collecting number photos myself. I had tried a couple of times to take a photo of a number and come back and upload it later, but each time the group had already moved beyond. I generally kept track of where the group was, though, when I logged into flickr. This number caught my eye while I was on a business trip, out to dinner with clients, and I was nearly bursting with anticipation by the time I could get back to my hotel and see if the slot was still available. It was!

Lothian Buses MMC number 631 (SJ21 MZV) ‘Volunteer’s Walk’ is seen here on Gilmerton Road in Gilmerton, Gilmerton/Inch, City of Edinburgh, operating a service 3 to the Mayfield.

MMCs 631-640 were new to Marine, and I’m still not fully used to seeing them on Longstone services. The first of them numerically climbs Gilmerton Road in the morning of the last day of May. This is a photo location that I have liked for years, with the amount of background you can get in shot on a clear day.
I have edited the image in terms of saturation and highlights/shadows to hopefully enhance it a bit.
Lothian Buses Alexander Dennis Enviro 400MMC bodied Volvo B5TL number 631 (SJ21 MZV) ‘Volunteer’s Walk’ was first registered in June 2021, new for Marine depot along with 632-650.
Within the last year, 631-640 moved to Longstone, now operating mainly on services 3, 25, 33, 34, 35 and 44.
The nickname 'Volunteer’s Walk’ comes from me naming 601-610 and 631-640 after hills. However, as there aren’t many hills in Edinburgh and the Lothians starting with V, so 631 here is named after the path between The Hawse and Holyrood roundabout on Salisbury Crags.

General Sikorski and number of his staff, including his daughter, were killed when their plane, a Liberator, crashed seconds after take off from Gibraltar, On that sad day returning to Engen-route to England, on July 4, 1943.

4th July 1943: After tours of Gibraltar and festivities, General Sikorski departs for London at 11:00pm. After reaching only 100 feet, the plane began a slow dive into the sea. Only the pilot survived. All others died or were presumed dead on impact at 11:06pm.

My friend Anna found this number on her Unoa Lite, so I checked over mine and I found number 5 over the boy and number 28 over the girl. Is this a serial number, a production check number or anything else?

The National Coal Board's number 10 at their Waterside railway system, linking collieries in the Doon Valley of Ayrshire was built by Andrew Barclay & Co. Ltd. of Kilmarnock in 1947 and served at Waterside till the end of steam haulage there in 1978. Now in 2008 she is still there and now provides public train rides on summer Sundays.
