Start off the New Year with a healthy living resolution! Make healthy drinking decisions. Challenge: If you plan to drink this weekend, cut your intake by half.

Here's to you and yours this new year - I've been incredibly blessed this year and I'm excited for the new opportunities this new year!

This adolescent northern elephant seal (M. angustirostris) stayed with this female longer than he should with two lazy beach masters on either side. He seemed a bit surprised. Typically the giant schnozed beach masters chase these small schnozed males away. Not today. He stayed long and she complained as the females always do--for good reason. Good to be back on the central coast.

In 2024 I decided to set a running goal of 1 mile/day and while I adjusted it over time to be 31 miles per month and then to 366 miles for the year to accommodate for my pressure/weather/air quality related headaches and general sadness. As of yesterday's run I logged 406 miles for the year, 40 miles over my initial goal!

I'm really proud of myself and excited to see what I can accomplish next year.

(The lighting was off in both of these because northern east coast US winter grey skies and all, we don't get a ton of sun or light till Spring so stick with me if things seem over exposed or overly saturated when it comes to things like this.)

My resolution for 2009:

Be more patient.

My life seems like a 3 ring circus but I need to practice more patience with my family, the world and myself.

I have plenty of opportunities to be patient. I just need to get on with it.

today's random fact: I worked in the housekeeping department at Yellowstone National Park one year from late May through mid October. I wish I was still that brave girl that packed up and moved out there for 5 months knowing no one and expecting adventure.

For those of us trying to come up with our resolutions for the New Year, I just wanted you to know that he is available for consultation at the "Urging Department" of the Dongyue Temple.

According to the helpful sign located at his Urging Department at the temple:

"Urging means pressing on to go ahead. Taoist creed holds anyone who exceed himself in Taoism should not only obey the Taoist code, but also go ahead with accomplishing good deeds"

Something to consider in the New Year. You can leave an offering and red tablet prayer at the front of his Department. Perhaps he will be of assistance, you never know!

Have a happy and safe New Year!

My New Year's Resolution for 2021 is to continue to improve my oil painting skills.

We have been painting on location in 30° weather while standing in six inches of snow. That's dedication to the art!

We returned to Great Hill Farm on the day after Christmas to paint again. The rain over the past two days melted all the snow, but it was still beautiful. It was cold and windy up on the hill, but not bad with warm clothes, Smart Wool socks and hand warmers! The light is amazing here and the views are spectacular, snow or no snow! I love this place. Another awesome class!

ANSH108: 2. A New Years resolution

i haven't exactly verbalized it

(fgr made me do it)

but i know it's my new year's resolution:

yoga in the studio in the morning

which leads to . . .

Woody Guthrie's 33 (!) New Years Resolutions that he made in 1941 (for 1942) give us a view of an optimistic, serious, sensitive, funny man. Just dealing with the nine I chose to print here present a challenge but nearly 70 years on can't we all feel the resonance/relevance of the last one?

Emma wanted to duplicate my "awesome" idea for a New Years resolution to post on her my space. She was really clever with her's... For those of you who don't know my daughter she is a senior in high school. She is barely 5 feet tall and might be 100 lbs soaking wet. Her friends have always playfully teased her about how tiny she is. Even though she is petite, her intelligence, maturity, and personality are larger than life. When she talks about continuing to grow as a person I know she is referring to leaving for college this upcoming fall. While I realize every parent has to face the day their kids "leave the nest", I just can't believe it is already here. Needless to say I'm not quite really sure how I feel about 2008 and the New Year!
