Seen outside Luton Town Hall in the Summer of 2000 is Volvo B10 / Plaxton Derwent F153 KGS which had been new to Buffalo of Flitwick in 1988 and taken over by The Shires in 1995. Shortly after this photograph the mixture of older vehicles operating on the 37 / 38 / 39 series of routes were replaced with a new batch of Dennis Tridents.
The 2015 Ram 1500 made its debut into the Matchbox line up late in 2016 and they certainly guaranteed it an audience by giving it this much loved National Parks livery. Its a nice chunky casting which although isn't one of their finest i'm no doubt will soon be seen in the Police liveries it was designed for. Bought from ASDA who have finally got a new batch of Matchbox in which should compensate a little for the fact they are now exclusive stockists of this iconic diecast brand here in the U.K. Mint and boxed.
As per the norm here in the U.K. or certainly in my part, new batch Hot Wheels don't tend to arrive on our pegs until around late March and April after the busy Christmas period which means potentially missing out on certain new castings and colours or not getting them until later on! New batch stuff have started to turn up in Morrisons and Sainsbury's which means getting one of these new coloured 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS models. I'm not sure how accurate this casting is compared to the real vehicle but the Police livery is pleasant enough. Mint and boxed.
Dakkhina Bahadur, 30, is physically and visually impaired, who lives with her husband and two children at Baraikhali in Dacope upazila in Khulna. Cyclone Amphan destroyed her stock of “Chaar”, or catching equipment for crabs made from bamboo. Her business of selling Chaar was steady before the Covid-19 pandemic, but that came to a halt soon after. She received cash support from UN Women as a victim of Cyclone Amphan as well as the Covid-19 pandemic, which she used to purchase raw materials for making new batches of Chaar. This helped her to resume selling the item again. Business has not been brisk compared to the pre-pandemic days six months ago, but at least now she has begun again.

One of the things I miss at not being able to buy Matchbox from Morrisons is the excitement of actually walking down very aisle of their stores in search of new models. You would walk in and within the first few aisles you would know instantly whether they had restocked with new batches and if they did I would hurriedly trot down every one with arms flailing everywhere like a demented octopus pulling models off the clip strips and into my basket! The only trouble with that is the odd casting I didn't want would end up there too and by the time I got to the tills I would be too embarrassed to take it back! That is the only reason why this Quick Sander is in my collection as it really is the type of Matchbox generic vehicle I don't actively collect or seek out but in a perverse way i'm glad on this occasion I did. Maybe its this attractive colour scheme but there is definitely hints of a believable Paris Dakar type vehicle bursting to get out with its raised ride height and full length mud flaps. Not one I will ever buy again but an experience in showing a tiny bit of restraint when out diecast shopping! :-p
Bought back in March 2016. Mint and boxed.
The back side label on the bottle of Thornbridge Bracia shows a best before date of 27 February 2017, making this a brand new batch (probably brewed in February 2012). The label also informs us that:
Bracia is the Celtic name for a beverage brewed in Iron Age Europe with reference found on a Roman inscription at Haddon Hall, Derbyshire. Little is known about this except it was high in alcohol, brewed with cereals and, most probably, honey.
Thornbridge's Bracia has been infused with a generous amount of dark and bitter Chestnut Honey sourced from the Alpine foothills of North East Italy.
Malts: Maris Otter, Brown, Munich, Dark Crystal, Black, Chocolate, Peated and Roasted Barley.
Hops: Target, Pioneer, Hallertau Northern Brewer and Sorachi Ace.
Bracia is released in limited quantities. It can be cellared and its flavours will evolve, so why not enjoy the experience of opening a bottle every once in a while.
Government is cutting red tape around licensing, making it easier and more cost-effective for golf courses and ski hills to expand their liquor licence areas, as a new batch of Liquor Policy Review updates is rolled out.
Made in direct response to feedback heard during the Liquor Policy Review, ski hills and golf courses can apply, starting on Dec. 9, for a single licence endorsement that covers up to 26 events in a calendar year, rather than having to apply and pay separately for each extension.

While on test duties, QF-4 drones are rarely seen away from their Tyndall and Holloman bases. But the people who fly and maintain the Phantoms are extremely proud of their aircraft, the last operational US tactical fighter from the Vietnam era.
In 2004, 82 ATRS personnel sought to add the QF-4 to the USAF’s Heritage Flight program, to fill a gap in historical coverage between World War Two and Korean War warbirds and modern fighters. Six QF-4Es were repainted in camouflage schemes from the F-4’s operational service, four at Tyndall and two at Holloman. Following USAF approval, they took part in Heritage Flight formations at a few airshows on each coast in 2005. In 2006, the QF-4s received Heritage Flight funding from Air Combat Command – the 2005 flights had been funded from the 53 WEG operating budget! – allowing the QF-4s to appear at approximately 20 shows. As well, a simple QF-4 solo display routine was introduced.
Except for their camouflage, the Heritage Flight QF-4Es are standard “primary flier” drones and are used for normal 82 ATRS operations when not at airshows. As the first six aircraft began to run out of flight hours in 2007, a new batch was painted. These aircraft all wear the same Southeast Asia scheme to simplify maintenance.
While the Heritage Flight QF-4s salute those who served in the 1960s and ‘70s, they are also a reminder why full-scale targets are important. Early in its USAF career, the F-4 was hobbled in air-to-air combat when its AIM-4 Falcon and AIM-7 Sparrow missiles failed to work properly in real engagements over North Vietnam. Today, the QF-4’s final duty is to ensure such failures never happen again.

Spain proved to be not very productive on the Hot Wheels front, certainly in terms of finding new batches especially as my usual haunt Carrefour being particularly poor. I did spot Case N in an Alcampo hypermarket and thus happily snapped up another one of these super clean new 1999 Honda Civic Type R's. Poor paint finish on both sides is probably why it wasn't taken by another collector! Mint and boxed.
The Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers, are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH)'s official definition and ranking, they were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 and remain the tallest twin towers in the world. The buildings are a landmark of Kuala Lumpur, along with nearby Kuala Lumpur Tower.
The 88-floor towers are constructed largely of reinforced concrete, with a steel and glass facade designed to resemble motifs found in Islamic art, a reflection of Malaysia's Muslim religion. Another Islamic influence on the design is that the cross section of the towers is based on a Rub el Hizb, albeit with circular sectors added to meet office space requirements.
As a result of the Malaysian government specifying that the buildings be completed in six years, two construction consortiums were hired to meet the deadline, one for each tower. Tower 1, the west tower (right in the top-right photograph) was built by a Japanese consortium led by the Hazama Corporation (JA Jones Construction Co., MMC Engineering Services Sdn Bhd, Ho Hup Construction Co. Bhd and Mitsubishi Corp) while Tower 2, the east tower (left in the top-right photograph) was built by a South Korean consortium led by the Samsung C&T Corporation (Kukdong Engineering & Construction and Syarikat Jasatera Sdn Bhd). Early into construction a batch of concrete failed a routine strength test causing construction to come to a complete halt. All the completed floors were tested but it was found that only one had used a bad batch and it was demolished. As a result of the concrete failure, each new batch was tested before being poured. The halt in construction had cost US$700,000 per day and led to three separate concrete plants being set up on the site to ensure that if one produced a bad batch, the other two could continue to supply concrete. The sky bridge contract was completed by Kukdong Engineering & Construction. Tower 2 became the first to reach the world's tallest building at the time. When the structure reached about 72nd floor, tower 1 ran into problems. They discovered the structure was leaning 25 millimetres (0.98 in) off from vertical. To correct the lean, the next 16 floors were slanted back 20 millimetres (0.79 in) with specialist surveyors hired to check verticality twice a day until the building's completion.
Due to the huge cost of importing steel, the towers were constructed on a cheaper radical design of super high-strength reinforced concrete. High-strength concrete is a material familiar to Asian contractors and twice as effective as steel in sway reduction; however, it makes the building twice as heavy on its foundation as a comparable steel building. Supported by 23-by-23 metre concrete cores and an outer ring of widely spaced super columns, the towers use a sophisticated structural system that accommodates its slender profile and provides 560,000 square metres of column-free office space. Below the twin towers is Suria KLCC, a shopping mall, and Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, the home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra [Wikipedia.org]
It may not gleam like a diamond stuck to a disco mirrorball compared to the debut blue edition but there was still plenty to love about this second recolour of the much admired HW Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. Its red with contrasting black stripes still looked very stock and well coordinated further flattering an already uncharacteristically Matchbox -esque casting with its untainted proportions and full strength rear tampo detailing. Sadly subsequent recolours missed the mark considerably! One of a few bought from Wilkinsons back in September 2016 as part of a new batch which appeared there. Mint and boxed.
As excited as I was to get my hands on the new Tartine #3 bread book, it's taken me quite awhile to start experimenting with it. My first sourdough turned out on the dense side, and truth be told, I've been happy with my other sourdough loaves and not really ready to move on from them. In addition to all of the breads, there are whole grainy desserts, using lots of traditional foods like kefir and spelt, oodles of nuts. All of them are wholesome and eye catching, I'm not sure what took me so long to try one.
While I have cultured a good many things in the past, kefir was never one of them. Since I didn't have a yogurt culture going, I figured I'd give milk kefir a try and my fb friend Holly sent me some milk kefir grains in the mail. Now I'm reliably getting a new batch of kefir every single 24 hours, and I'm trying to scale down the amount of milk I'm using so I don't have so much on hand. I've been drinking it pretty reliably too, every morning in my smoothies. I have to say it's just ok... It's maybe not as tasty as my old yogurt culture was, and I wish I loved it more. But then last week I cultured some kefir cream; that's just the kefir grains culturing heavy cream. THAT is better by far than any other cultured cream I've ever made. It is good in everything too - on oatmeal, in soup, with granola... All of a sudden I had the kick I needed to try a quick bread using sourdough starter and kefir cream as backbone ingredients.
There is a pretty good sized amount of kefir cream in this Tartine #3 tea cake that I tried to follow the recipe for. I can't be sure, but it seemed like a pretty big error to call for 375 g. walnuts in a cake with only 171 g. flour. (I used 158 g., which was a generous 1 1/3 c. in the conventional measure.) I didn't use all spelt flour, since I had to send my Vitamix out for a repair, and my coffee grinder was not grinding my whole spelt as finely as I would have liked. I used half coarsely ground spelt and half ap. The bread was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing (except to use all spelt when I get my machine back and can make proper flours again).
I did feel like I saw a little of what some reviewers were calling a rush to press with this book. It's missing some of the details that unseasoned bakers might need. And errors like the amount (by weight) of walnuts in the recipe had me scratching my head. I felt the compulsion to weigh and then also measure by conventional method to double check. I am fairly certain if I had used the whole amount called for by weight, the bread would never have held together. And my interior structure looked like the picture in the book, too. I think extra intuition will be needed when working through the rest of the recipes in here.

Many of us must remember the legend "Keep on Trucking With G & H Lucking". They were or still are a famous Theatrical moving company. The previous livery was a very ornate blue and white livery with yellow and red relief and a very traditional style of writing for the fleetname and legend. The company re-launched recently and now operate using this basic but impressive looking livery. They appear to have a brand new batch of both high spec MAN's and IVECO Stralis. Sparkling brand new MAN TGX,XXL RV62CWC is seen parked at the stage door of Harrogate Theatre.
With no new batches of Matchbox Moving Parts appearing here in the UK this year so far it can only be assumed that the line has been dropped by either the importers/distributors or the retailers such as Sainsbury's and The entertainer. Thankfully I continue to source mine very cheaply from Jcar in the US ensuring I don't miss out on exotica like the brand newly recoloured Lamborghini Centenario.
Now finished in a decidedly classy metallic gold with contrasting blacked out wheels though the fit of its scissor-action doors are less than perfect!

I've been building up quite the library of fruit jams and butters, along with some savory pickles. So with a new batch of rhubarb, I decided to try something new. This lead me to Marisa McClellan's Rhubarb Chutney (although, the recipe in her book starts with 6 cups of rhubarb, and an assortment of slightly different ingredient quantity adjustments.
Detroit, Michigan
November 9, 2010
Fog rolled down the river from Lake St. Clair and covered the city on a nice sunny day.
Jumped on the 265 SMART bus in Westland at 8:30am and took it to Fairlane for the 200 bus to Michigan Avenue and Michigan Central Station. Cannondale 1FG on front of the bus. I hit MCS and then jumped on Rosa Parks. As I approached Fort Street, 15 minutes into the ride, I hear the rear tire spewing air. Chunk of glass.
Fixed that and hit some fun places. The Detroiter Bar, Detroit Beer Company and The Detroit Pub provided fuel for the ride. Detroit Beer Company was boiling up a new batch IPA and Broadway all the way to Grand Circus Park was smelling like roses.
Caught a crew setting up a set for Detroit 1-8-7 not too far from The Detroit Athletic Club.
Mountain biking Detroit rocks. Just remember a camera.

After a pretty dire few months of distribution of new Hot Wheels in virtually all of my local retailers there has been an avalanche of new Batches all appearing at once, mainly at ASDA. Its meant finding several of the new Land-Rover Series III Pick-Ups harder than I would have liked!
It has to be one of my most eagerly awaited new HW castings of 2019 and it certainly doesn't disappoint, so much so that it steers right into Matchbox territory due to its outright stock realism! Somebody at Mattel has obviously fallen back in love with Land-Rover in general with quite a few great castings recently released with more to follow from both MBX and HW brands. This really is so thoughtfully cast and true to the original barring its lack of a split screen which I wouldn't have expected to see on a basic Mainline release anyway. Beautifully intricate detailing to both front and rear ends with this particular example showing some artistic license on my behalf courtesy of Mr Molotow which has given its rear end a brushed alloy effect.
Bought recently from Morrisons. Mint and boxed.

Santa Fe to Williams, 12 November 2017
We had a great time in Santa Fe, but I had to get back to work, so on Sunday, 12 November, it was time to start our trip home.
We were stopping off at the Grand Canyon on the way back. I had visited the Grand Canyon in 1982 and 1983, so it had been a while for me, and Anne had never been there.
On 12 November, we took Railrunner back Albuquerque and then Amtrak's Southwest Chief to Williams Jct., Arizona, the station nearest the Grand Canyon. ATSF used to serve Williams on its main line, but a line relocation around 1960 reduced grades and curves and moved the main line a little ways north of Williams. ATSF still had a line through Williams as their line to Phoenix continued to use the old main line to Ash Fork, the former junction with the Phoenix line. Williams was the junction of ATSF's Grand Canyon branch.
Our trip started on the 1020 am departure from Santa Fe, train 703, led by MP36 106. The trip to Albuquerque took an hour and a half, which would have left us with over 4 hours in Albuquerque until the Chief was due. We were planning to have lunch, but then what?
I half jokingly suggested to Anne that we ride the train all the way to the end of the line at Belen and then return. That would take another 1.5 hours and still leave us plenty of time to get lunch before the Chief was due. She had settled into her seat on Railrunner and decided that if she had to kill some time, riding the train was as good of a way to do it as sitting at the combined Greyhound and Amtrak station in Albuquerque. The extra charge to go all the way to the end of the line and back was $1 each, so it did not break the bank.
We got to see the country that we passed through in the dark on our way to Albuquerque. Beautiful, if desolate north of Albuquerque, greener south of there as the train follows the Rio Grande to Belen. We saw some bison at one point.
At Belen, a cut of BNSF units was crossing over on the main line next to the the Railrunner station as our train waited 15 minutes to return north.
Back in Albuquerque, we stashed our bags and went back to the same New York style pizza place where we ate a few days earlier. Good pizza and good beer.
An Amtrak P42 and Horizon coach were parked at the station. Not sure why they were there.
The Chief arrived early, shortly after we'd moved out to the platform to wait for it. We climbed on after a big crowd got off. It seemed to me that about half of the coach passengers get off in Albuquerque and a new batch gets on. The train only had 2 coaches and they were full. Amtrak could probably run another coach on this train in the off season ad still fill it.
The dining car dinner did not disappoint, even if we had to take a relatively early seating as that was what was left when we boarded. We were not yet famished, having eaten a fair bit of pizza for lunch.
The sunset was gorgeous, then the night was dark. We were on time into Williams Jct., where a van operated by the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel was waiting to pick us up.
I made my 36 blocks for a wall-hanging but loved it so much that I bought more fabric and am now making lots more orange peels!

I was so happy to find that a new batch of Juniper Hairstreaks were flying this summer. I am not sure but I think this is the same one I saw two days ago. In the bright sunlight I found it difficult to identify the butterfly till I got up close. If you are looking for new butterflies make sure you closely check out any you see.
