The construction of the cemetery became necessary following the laws Napoleonic which included the cemeteries built outside the city walls . Before it, the dead were buried near the churches (only the church of San Bernardino grew to 50,000 graves during the plague of 1630 ).

The cemetery was built in a neoclassical and although he appears majestic proportions space for burials was exhausted in no time. Already in the last decades of the nineteenth century it had to expand with smaller replicas on the east side.

A TREE

A tree reminds us that to grow up,

towards the spiritual, the abstract, it is necessary to be well rooted in the earth,

in the concrete, in the matter.

It is like the human being, a being that unites heaven and earth.

He is the bearer of the finished fruit, and at the same time,

It is in the process of development.

We as human beings

we are the maximum expression of creation and at the same time

we are still in the process of growth.

Author of the poem: Friedrich Nietzsch

Understand is impossible, but to know is necessary and remember is a duty

Clearly having eyes bigger than its mouth this cormorant tried for over 10 minutes to swallow the bream. It failed.

Thanks to all who have visited, commented or faved my photos. It is very much appreciated.

Only minimal processing was necessary here. What you see is very close to what this man-made, almost empty stormwater retention-pond landscape looks like in winter, when a thin snow cover hides the messy ground.

I can’t crochet without my specs!

HSoS :-)

Wildfires occur when all the necessary elements of a fire triforce come together in a susceptible area: an ignition source is brought into contact with a combustible material such as vegetation that is subjected to enough heat and has an adequate supply of oxygen from the ambient air. A high moisture content usually prevents ignition and slows propagation, because higher temperatures are needed to evaporate any water in the material and heat the material to its fire point. Dense forests usually provide more shade, resulting in lower ambient temperatures and greater humidity, and are therefore less susceptible to wildfires. Less dense material such as grasses and leaves are easier to ignite because they contain less water than denser material such as branches and trunks. Plants continuously lose water by evapotranspiration, but water loss is usually balanced by water absorbed from the soil, humidity, or rain. When this balance is not maintained, plants dry out and are therefore more flammable, often as a consequence of droughts.

Number 2 in the "Take Wing" series

A few hops and wingbeats were required to acquire the necessary lift

three conditions are necessary for the appearance of a geyser:

* water in depth which can circulate and then rise freely (no obstacles)

° a reservoir;

* the proximity of a pocket of magma which heats the water.

It is possible to find hot springs and geysers in non-volcanic regions if the geothermal gradient is sufficient! Thus heated, the water turns into steam. The pressure increases and propels a powerful jet of water and steam to the surface. The surface orifice is generally narrow. The intensity of the forces at play explains the rarity of the phenomenon. Geysers therefore differ from simple hot springs by the underground geological structure.

Strokkur projects hot water into the air at a height of 20 meters, sometimes exceptionally up to 40 meters.

Have a nice monday!

West Pier, Brighton, East Sussex, England

And now for something completely different! Slight interlude in the Scottish photos for something taken at the weekend.

The forecast was nothing special but the tides seemed right for shooting something at Shoreham mid morning. I decided I'd get up early and head over to Brighton to shoot the West Pier again.....who knows how much longer it will survive? This time I wanted to capture some posts (old pier supports?) that I'd seen.

Sure enough the sky was pretty grey and nothing much going on with the sea so I thought I'd try a 'Gary Gough Fine Art' type image. I'll leave it to you all to decide if I succeeded!

Had some challenges sorting out the lens distortion effect as I had to get quite close to the posts to make sure I excluded any beach. Another Tog there said he would clone out the beach if necessary but I wanted to avoid that. It's not 100% perfect but I think the distortion is removed as far as my capabilities/the software allow.

If you want to learn about the history of West Pier then pleasse see a shot I took last year of a Supermoon over the pierhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/184798091@N07/51409111073/in/album-72157719746898331/

It's so hot in here

Oh, it's so hot, and I need some air

And boy, don't stop cause I'm halfway there

It's not complicated, we're just syncopated

We can read each other's minds

One love united

Two bodies synchronizing

Don't even need to touch me

Baby, just

Breathe on me

Oh baby just, breathe on me

We don't need to touch, just

Breathe

Sadly, this will have been my last trip to historic Cambridge for a while as my travel there hardly is 'necessary'. Stay well, my friends!!

Moderate risk with rough or very rough seas, possible coastal erosion and delays to maritime connections. Caution is advised, especially for recreational boating and beach activities, which may be prohibited. It is necessary to secure objects exposed to the wind, avoid piers and breakwaters, and pay attention to areas near the coast.

The origins of the San Salvador Cathedral in Zaragoza date back to 1118, when King Alfonso I Battler regained the city from the hands of Muslims. In the place of the present cathedral there was a mosque, which in 1121 was adopted after necessary renovations into a Christian church.

The construction of a new, late Romanesque cathedral began in 1140. The new church had a basilica layout consisting of a transept and three aisles ended with apses. From 1204 to the 15th century, all the kings of Aragon were crowned in this church.

In 1403, the old dome collapsed, and the reconstruction of the entire building began. Two towers were added and a new papal tiara shaped dome was built. Decorated in 1409 by master Mohammed Rami, it had many of the features of Arab Mudejar art.

In the 17th century, the old and dilapidated Mudéjar tower was demolished and a new one was built in the baroque style to give the cathedral its contemporary shape. The building represents a variety of styles; from Romanism, through Mudejar, to the Renaissance and Baroque.

The cathedral has been recognized as a national monument and placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Początki katedry w San Salvador w Saragossie, sięgają roku 1118, kiedy król Alfons I Battlera odzyskał miasto z rąk Muzułmanów.

Mullaghcleevaun { 853m } is a wild and isolated place accessed from the famous Military Road, R115. Its necessary to climb two other mountains, namely, Carrickshouk { 573m } and Stony Hill { 709m } in order to get there. Its a 10 mile round trip across wild blanket bog with lots of pools and hidden sink holes that your feet suddenly disappear into up to your knees. You can see why the Irish army often train up there. They always look at little old me very peculiarly when I meet them and ask me do I need help! Cheek! Id give them a run for their money anyday!!! Lol! Its looking very brown here but it does green up with moor grass, heather, bracken and bilberry in May and lots of alpines grow there as well. As this was late March theres still a hint of snow on the mountain which I like. Its quite beautiful really and I love the starkness of the big granite boulders against the brown. Ive climbed it a good few times now. I have turned back on occassion when the weather suddenly changed as it can be dangerous as its never worth the risk to yourself or others who have to rescue you.

Its funny, but there is a great sense of achievement for me personally, when I climb it and it does make you realise how small you are in the great scale of things so worrying about life isnt going to help in the least up here and these places will still be here when we are long gone! A great leveller!

Hope you like the photo and the bit of info and do keep close.

Best wishes to all of you my good friends.

Kaufhaus Konrad und Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Pfersee, einem Stadtteil von Augsburg

In Pfersee, which "is a part of the city of Augsburg, Bavaria with some 25.000 inhabitants. [...] In 1911 Pfersee was incorporated to Augsburg." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfersee

In the second half of the 19th century, industry settled in the small village of Pfersee and the population grew at a rapid pace. The old parish church quickly became much too small, and so the construction of a new, large parish church became necessary. The Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Church of the Sacred Heart) with its 72 meter high tower, visible from afar and towering over factory chimneys, was consecrated in 1910. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herz-Jesu-Kirche_(Augsburg)

Constructed in 1882, the historic Chicago & Northwestern Railway Stone Arch Bridge is is a popular stopping point along the Stone Bridge Trail that today runs along the former railway bed between Rockton and Roscoe in Winnebago County, north of the City of Rockford. The double-arch bridge, which crosses over South Kinnikinnick Creek, is made of dolomitic limestone. The bridge replaced an earlier wooden structure, and was a key element in the local sand quarry commerce which supplied Chicago, 90 miles to the east, with the necessary elements for masonry and concrete construction materials.

The C&NW RR Stone Arch Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Dumps in former mining areas have become part of the landscape over time. This is exactly what the Förderverein Bergbau Erbe Saar e.V. Ensdorf/Saar did not want to happen. It wanted "a symbol for the 250-year mining tradition on the Saar... and for the necessary new beginning and structural change thereafter! "He succeeded in doing this by organising a competition and the winning project by Pfeiffer Sachse Architekten. The Duhamel slag heap is once again becoming a landmark. A new unity emerges from the interplay between the heaviness of the slag heap and the lightness of the polygon. Both the slag heap and the project reinforce each other's effect. Although static as an object, the polygon appears almost kinetic and has a completely different effect depending on the view. Sometimes almost unstable, like a triangle on a point, sometimes broadly dominant. From a distance, the figure is almost intriguing because it cannot be grasped directly. Then, on the approach and ascent, it disappears, only to unfold all the more dramatically in all its facets on arrival at the plateau. The polygon becomes both a stage for the far-reaching view and a magnet for the view from a distance, a land art that also fulfils a functional function as a viewing platform. With simple means from the production of industrial culture, a spatial framework made of sectional steel has been created here, a sculpture that emerged from local steel production. A complex effect was achieved with simple means. The artificial light effect has also emerged from the structure and enhances its effect at dusk with discreet use. This project between land art and steel construction is an extremely successful sign for the client, the architects and engineers. It is an understandable and at the same time an emotional project for everyone, far beyond the region.

This was the first image I shot, at this new favorite place. The composition is similar to my previous post; however the lighting is very different. Shot during sunset, I was able to record a wide range in contrast of light. A neutral density grad is necessary to keep both the sky and canyon details as correctly exposed as possible. Adjusting white & color balance in post-processing keeps tones looking very close to the way my eyes witnessed the scene.

It's cold and it feels even colder today because it's windy. The remaining snow in the garden is rather ice now and Fynn, the only one who has been outdoors for more than 5 minutes today, isn't fond of walking on it. Not only does the ice crush under his feet, it also sticks between his toes. It was necessary to patrol along the fence, though, and check whether the neighbour's dogs were outdoors (they were not). The cold will get worse in the next days as we expect polar weather. Fynn says he doesn't care because he has his winter coat but I think it may be time for the sweater I bought for him.

HOW LONG WILL I LOVE YOU by ELLIE GOULDING

I LEAVE OUT ALL DESIRE

As I stand amid the poppies and smell their sweet perfume

I know that I am leaving here to find a land where I belong

I am knee deep dancing in the wind

that blows me who knows where

but one thing that I'm certain of is I'll leave without a care

there is nothing left to keep me here except this field of dreams

but I need to find another world to replace the red with cream

too much vivid colour has drained me of all reason

I need to feel snow underfoot; I need another season

red the colour of my heart; passionate; sincere

but oh so easily broken and drowned with all my tears

a perfect soul; does it really exist; I have no way of knowing

the wind's impatient just like me; I shrug and keep on going

I pack a suitcase with my life and leave out all desire

there's room enough to fill one day if someone lights my fire

my steps are lighter as though I fly above the scarlet land

where once my soul was tethered to a gentle caring man

where is he now I wonder briefly but it's just a fleeting thought

he wasn't always gentle as the time that followed taught

why do we start as one thing and let ourselves be shaped

by life and love and everything that passed by us and scraped

another scar; a pack of lies; broken bones as fragile as a bird's

bleached and leached

by the harshness of someone's scorching words

the sea rises up to claim me;

the salt-laden air cauterises my wounds

but the scars inside me will remain

long after my love for him has been consumed

I close my eyes and dare to dream;

a world with pastel colours; predominantly cream

but maybe with pure white of snow;

of graceful swans and angels wings

somewhere where time has no other meaning

than the soft beating of my heart

rhythmic; gentle like butterflies wings

and the whispered words of Descartes ...

Because of work being done on the tracks near Rendsburg, a diversion over a non-electrified track was necessary on July 17/18th 2021 for the night train from Berlin to Malmö and Stockholm and back. To solve this problem, a diesel engine tagged along (as can be seen in this aireal shot of train D 301 - led by engine 112 166 near Nauen).
