Built in 1908 during the Edwardian heyday of the band movement before the Great War, the Queen Alexandra Bandstand is a beautiful and well maintained example of creative bandstand design. It was named after the then British Queen, wife of Edward VII.
Erected in the central median strip of Ballarat’s premier boulevard, Sturt Street between Doveton and Mair Streets, the Queen Alexandra Bandstand is surrounded by leafy oak trees and other deciduous European exotic trees. It is the second bandstand along Sturt Street, the other being the Titanic Memorial Bandstand. The Queen Alexandra bandstand is built in a polygonal form surmounted by a Moorish or Russian influenced onion dome. The bandstand has particularly fine wrought iron detailing incorporating musical motifs, including harps, horns and Edwardian styled music stands and is an important and exotic element of the streetscape of Sturt Street.
The Queen Alexandra Bandstand it is now one of the few remaining examples of bandstands in Victoria. It serves as a tangible reminder of a highly popular form of entertainment, prominent on the community agenda for many years. The construction of the bandstand and its survival until now also reflects the prominence of music in Ballarat's cultural and civic identity.
I seemed to have timed this photo right with an airplane coming in and a boat coming across the water.

Hello Seattle - [ have a listen ]
by Owl City
Hello Seattle, I am a mountaineer
In the hills and highlands
I fall asleep in hospital parking lots
And awake in your house
Hello Seattle, I am a mantaray
Deep beneath the blue waves
Ill crawl the sandy bottom of Puget Sound
And construct a summer home
Hello Seattle, I am the crescent moon
Shining down on your face
I will disguise myself as a sleeping pill
And descend inside of you
Hello Seattle, I am a cold seahorse
Feeling warm in your sand
I sing about the tide and the ocean surf
Rolling in the evening breeze
Hello Seattle, I am an albatross
On the docks and your boats
I sail above your inlets and interstates
Through the rain and open wind
Hello Seattle, I am an old lighthouse
Throwing beams of bright lights
Red in the morning, blue in the evening sun
Taken heed from everyone
Hello Seattle, I am a mountaineer
In the hills and highlands
I fall asleep in hospital parking lots
Take me above your light
Carry me through the night
Hold me secure in flight
Sing me to sleep tonight
Take me above your light
Carry me through the night
Hold me secure in flight
Sing me to sleep tonight
If I were musically inclined, I would write an Ode to My Closet. When I’m in my closet, I feel like I’m in a department store. No, I’m not going to show you the inside of my medicine cabinet too. Seriously, though…closet.
Roxy Music are an English art rock group formed in 1971 by Bryan Ferry, who became the group's lead vocalist and chief songwriter. The other members are Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe) and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Former members include Brian Eno (synthesizer and "treatments"), and Eddie Jobson (synthesizer and violin). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and have toured together intermittently since that time.
Roxy Music attained popular and critical success in the UK, Europe and Australia during the 1970s and early 1980s, beginning with their debut album, Roxy Music (1972).[1] The band was highly influential, as leading proponents of the more experimental, musically sophisticated element of glam, as well as a significant influence on early English punk music. They also provided a model for many New Wave acts and the experimental electronic groups of the early 1980s. The group is distinguished by their visual and musical sophistication and their preoccupation with style and glamour.[2] Ferry and co-founding member Eno have also had influential solo careers, the latter becoming one of the most significant record producers and collaborators of the late 20th century.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked Roxy Music #98 on its "The Immortals – 100 The Greatest Artists of All Time" list.[3]
A new studio album, which would have been their ninth, began recording in 2005. It would have been Roxy's first record with Brian Eno since 1973, who wrote two songs for it as well as played keyboards.[4] However, Bryan Ferry eventually confirmed that material from these sessions would be released as a Ferry solo album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks,"[5] and that he doesn't think they'll record as Roxy Music again.[6] Subsequently, this was confirmed by the announcement of a solo Bryan Ferry album, entitled Olympia.

Every generation of Metal bands has its pioneers – groups that re-define the genre musically and take it to a new level. SYLOSIS is one of them! It’s not for nothing that the quartet from Reading, England has been considered as UK’s greatest Metal export. Now the boys return with their second metallic gem “Edge Of The Earth”.
Sometimes, a much-loved and highly successful band needs to shake things up a bit to keep things fresh and interesting for their fans and for themselves, all the while retaining the signature sonic hallmarks that have defined their sound.
For their upcoming sixth album, Massachusetts metal pioneers Killswitch Engage reunited with original singer Jesse Leach, whose vocals and lyrics on 2002's landmark Alive or Just Breathing are fan-favorite qualities and part of what helped put KsE on the map as one of the most important bands of the '00s metal revival. Poll KsE fans and ask which album they like best and Alive or Just Breathing is usually right at the top of the list.
Call it coming full circle, returning to their roots or coming home again. Whatever the case and no matter what you choose to label it, Leach's return to the fold is welcomed and anticipated by all involved, from the band members themselves to the fans. Leach is a fitting piece of the KsE puzzle. KsE enjoyed a decade of success with Leach's replacement Howard Jones, who has moved on amicably.
"This change is very exciting," the band said upon announcing Leach's triumphant return. "We know you're going to love it. This is truly a new era in KsE history and it is ready to shred your face off. So, please help us in welcoming Jesse back into the KsE family; he is a rare and great talent, a fact that older KsE fans have known for years. Here is to a killer new record and a bright future. The five of us cannot wait to write this record and play shows together and bring that feeling to our fans. It's been far too long."
KsE burst onto the scene with the genre-defining Alive or Just Breathing, notching a Grammy nomination in 2005 for the title track from 2004's gold-certified The End of Heartache and following up that landmark album with the Gold-selling As Daylight Dies and an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live along with gracing the covers of countless metal and rock magazines around the world.
Through the '00s, KsE adopted a versatile, non-stop touring schedule. The band's road history includes two treks on Ozzfest, stints on Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos, as they have that rare ability to straddle the line between the metal and alternative scenes by touring with Slayer and Mastodon as easily as My Chemical Romance and Underoath
The band's DVD Set This World Ablaze also enjoyed Gold-selling status, proving that KsE have the metallic Midas touch.
However, KsE have never coasted on the wave of prior successes, which saw them become one of the premier, most successful bands to emerge from the so-called New Wave of American metal. With Leach back at the vocal helm and behind the mic and a renewed sense of what they want to accomplish, what once was is brand new again and 2012 (and beyond) looks to be another exciting year (and decade) for Killswitch Engage.

Ooh boy why you so obsessed with me?
Boy I want to know- lyin’ that you’re sexin me
When everybody knows it’s clear that you’re upset with me
Ohh finally found a girl that you couldn’t impress
Last man on the earth- still couldn’t get this
You’re delusional, you’re delusional
Boy you’re losing your mind

Why you wasting your time?
Got you all fired up with your Napoleon complex
See right through you like you’re bathin’ in windex

And all the ladies sing, all the girls sing
Soo Oohhhh Soo Oohh Obsessed
You on your job, you hatin’ hard

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin you
Can hurt you somehow
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
Shell beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get
Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin
Your prison is walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
Its hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin, but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before its too late

“I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I can not transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.”

The ''Vocal group Octachord'' with its 8 members has been active for 3 years now. It cherishes ''a capella'' way of singing of the songs from different genres, with a special emphasis on gospel and pop. We are the only mixed vocal group in Rijeka (Croatia) in the category to 10 members. We are musically educated young people who want to share their love towards music with as many people as possible. From the very beginning of our activity we have had many performances at the universities and faculties in Rijeka, as well as at many cultural events in Rijeka. Some of them are the humanitarian concert for helping of the blind and partially sighted children, organized by the association ''For the children with love''. We also performed at the opening of the Medieval sculpture exhibition in 2009, at the 5th Croatian slavistic congress in 2010. As well, it's our custom every year, from our founding, to have at least one Christmas whole-evening concert and in December 2011 we held four, two of which were in Zagreb (CRO) as a part of the event ''Advent in Zagreb''.
Throughout these 3 years of our existence we participated at 20° International coral competition in Verona (ITA) in 2009, where we won the best graded second place. We won jury commendations which were a great encouragement for us in the future. Last year (2011) we participated at the 1st International competition in ''a capella'' singing, organized by Olja Dešić and Vocal Studio Marathon - Vocal Marathon Encounters in Rijeka (CRO). In October 2011 we performed also at the International choral competition in Rimini (ITA) and we won the silver medal in category of gospel & traditional folk music. We also won a special award - golden medal in the category of vocal groups to 12 members.
In the purpose of presentating our work, with the help of ''Department of culture in Rijeka'', we had presented ourselves in our first whole-evening concert on November 13, 2010 in ''Croatian cultural center on Sušak''. We were very happy to see that the numerous audience was satisfied enjoying our performance. At the same place we prepare another independent concert in autumn.
The members of the Vocal group Octachord are:
For the "Musically Challenged" group - "Fake Plastic Trees", by Radiohead
The song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKd06s1LNik
Her green plastic watering can
For her fake Chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth.
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself.
It wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out.
She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns.
He used to do surgery
For girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins.
And it wears him out, it wears him out.
It wears him out, it wears . . .
She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love.
But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run.
And it wears me out, it wears me out.
It wears me out, it wears me out.
And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time, all the time.
Oh, oh.
Radiohead is one of those groups that I liked right out of the box, and before long I had collected every CD they'd made, and was hungry for more.. There's a sense of melancholy about their music that appealed to me, and a lonely beauty to the voice that I never tired of.. As is often the case though - reading the lyrics doesn't really make literal sense - not in the way most country songs do, with a straight-forward story, with a beginning, a middle, and an end.. But I was raised in a time when the lyrics were often secondary to the mood of the piece - and often were indecipherable anyway - much less what they "mean".. I think they mean what they mean to you - and that's all that really matters.. This song is so pretty, melodically, that it's almost a lullaby, even thought the lyrics are rather sad... I think...
For musically talented Barossa Valley local, Sam Brittain, story-telling is exactly that. Since releasing his debut LP ‘Our Shining Skin’ on June 1, 2012, the path to success for the gifted and independent musician has transformed into a never-ending road. First picking up a guitar at the age of three and additionally turning his hand to the piano and drums,
In 2013, Sam is an unstoppable, roots, folk and blues artist, reminiscent of sounds such as Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Ryan Adams. Sam supported close friend and musical influence, Mike Rosenberg (Passenger) at Adelaide-based Fowlers Live, as an integral part of Mike’s ‘All the Little Lights’ album tour, a highlight of Sam’s career to date.
The recording of ‘Our Shining Skin’ saw Sam and his band work endlessly with the talented Barossa-based Jamie Blechynden of Stella Studios and VJ productions. Supported by BJ Barker (drums), Steve Flemming (bass) and Glen Wagland (engineer), tracking the backbone of all 12 songs took a mere two days to complete. ‘Our Shining Skin’ quickly earned impressive reviews and was labelled as a ‘formidable and wide spreading resume’ for Sam (Timber and Steel, August, 2012).
Kicking off an Australian tour, Sam officially released the highly anticipated album at a sold out show on June 9, 2012, held at the Chateau’s acoustically brilliant ‘Long Room’. In June and July 2012, Sam crossed the country, delighting crowds and building his fan base in Melbourne, Hobart, Darwin and Adelaide, including an unforgettable sold out show with Sam’s full band at the prominent Adelaide venue, the Promethean Theatre on September 27, 2012.
Marking the beginning of what’s set to be a milestone year and following a hugely successful first tour, Sam’s lead single ‘Bruises’ hit #1 on the Triple J Unearthed Roots Chart on New Year’s Eve, 2012/13, where it consolidated its lead for a consecutive four weeks, peaking at #6 in the Overall Top 100.
2013 saw Sam embark on a 16 date tour once again supporting new age folk music legend Mike Rosenberg (Passenger).

This, belatedly, is my first submission to the group Musically Challenged , as well as my first submission to the group Learning Gimp . I used the tutorials in this discussion thread to create the broken mirror effect.
Finally, but perhaps most importantly, this is my commentary mourning the loss of public service journalism - a craft I once hoped I'd spend my entire adult life pursuing -- and the art of civil political discourse.
I had a huge rant prepared about how punditry and pontification have kicked healthy discourse to the curb. But, for once, I hope my image says it all. With all the nastiness going on regarding EVERY critical issue this country faces, is it any wonder that the mirror to our outlook and patriotism has cracked badly? There are people that I love who do not share the same ideals that I do. There are people who love me even though they don't "get" me. But it seems that when those who are competing for ratings, MONEY, votes, or popularity start talking, love and civility go out the window.
It all seems so simple to me: Look at the bald eagle, that great American symbol. Have you ever seen one rise, let alone SOAR, with ONLY a right wing or a left wing?
The people who can make our debates more civil have more power, larger audiences and far more money than I and my simple stream can muster. And they make their livings off the fact that we as a people would rather listen to sound bite mumble jumble rather than searching TOGETHER for truth no matter where it's found.
But for God's sake, maybe someone will pay attention to Stevie. He's been saying it for decades. That mumble jumble - call it hype, call it talking points, call it flat out SUPERSTITION - simply just isn't the way to go.
Superstition
As performed by Stevie Wonder
Very superstitious,
Writing's on the wall,
Very superstitious,
Ladders bout' to fall,
Thirteen month old baby,
Broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck,
The good things in your past
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way
Hey
Very superstitious,
Wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem,
Do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream,
Keep me goin' strong,
You don't wanna save me,
Sad is the soul
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way,
Yeh, yeh
Very superstitious,
Nothin' more to say,
Very superstitious,
The devil's on his way,
Thirteen month old baby,
Broke the lookin' glass,
Seven years of bad luck,
Good things in your past
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way,
No, no, no
Paula Abdul~Opposites Attract
Baby seems we never ever agree
You like the movies
And I like T.V.
I take thing serious
And you take 'em light
you go to bed early
And I party all night
Our friends are sayin'
We ain't gonna last
Cuz I move slowly
And baby I'm fast
I like it quiet
And I love to shout
But when we get together
It just all works out
I take--2 steps forward
I take--2 steps back
We come together
Cuz opposites attract
And you know--it ain't fiction
Just a natural fact
We come together
Cuz opposites attract
Who'd a thought we could be lovers
She makes the bed
And he steals the covers
She likes it neat
And he makes a mess
I take it easy
Baby I get obsessed
She's got the money
And he's always broke
I don't like cigarettes
And I like to smoke
Things in common
There just ain't a one
But when we get together
We have nothin' but fun
I take--2 steps forward
I take--2 steps back
We come together
Cuz opposites attract
And you know--it ain't fiction
Just a natural fact
We come together
Cuz opposites attract
Baby ain't it somethin'
How we lasted this long
You and me
Provin' everyone wrong
Don't think we'll ever
Get our differences patched
Don't really matter
Cuz we're perfectly matched
Rap:
Nothing in common but this trust
I'm like a minus, she's like a plus
One going up, one coming down
But we seem to land on common ground
When things go wrong we make corrections
To keep things moving in the right direction
Try to fight it but I'm telling you Jack
It's useless, Opposites Attract

Founded in 1993, the Krewe of Orpheus takes its name from the musically-inclined son of Zeus and Calliope. Founding members included Harry Connick, both the junior and senior.
In New Orleans, the krewe established themselves as a superkrewe with their first parade in 1994, which rolled with 700 riders. They were the first super Krewe to allow both male and female riders.
The Krewe's throws include a number of popular items including emblem beads, stuffed animals, signature beads, light-up Orpheus medallion beads, cups, three different types of doubloons, and 4-foot-long stuffed dragons.
They have a number of notable floats including the Dolly Trolley, the horse-drawn bus that was used in the opening of Hello Dolly with Barbra Streisand, the Smoking Mary which is a six unit float that looks like a steam locomotive, a Trojan horse and the Orpheus Leviathan Float, which is a three unit, 139-foot float, and the first Carnival float to use extensive fiber optic lighting.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Fats Domino wass the honorary grand marshall for 2014. His eldest son, Antoine Domino III, rode in the parade and perform his 85 year old father's music.
In addition to Fats Domino, Quentin Tarantino reigned as the krewe's celebrity monarch.
I feel the heat of your frustration
I know it's burnin you up deep down inside
You say that I'm the boy who can make it all come true
Well I'm tellin ya that I don't know if I know what to do

It would have been Roxy's first record with Brian Eno since 1973, who wrote two songs for it as well as played keyboards.[4] However, Bryan Ferry eventually confirmed that material from these sessions would be released as a Ferry solo album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks,"[5] and that he doesn't think they'll record as Roxy Music again.[6] Subsequently, this was confirmed by the announcement of a solo Bryan Ferry album, entitled Olympia.
if i've got no one to tell them to.
For Musically Challenged--a song i wouldn't have expected myself to like, but i actually really love. And have been listening to a lot lately. And have several photo ideas for that i'm sure i'll never get to. Because life is all sorts of mess right now at work. That's basically MY story right now. Work. Blah.

You were musically inclined to see all the Musicians for yesterday's "M" word.
Today's "N" word is appropriate as it falls on a day connecting love and hearts. Today's word may take a little time, but this adjective describes the action of our two Lego 'love-birds'. Good luck!
Happy Valentine's Day

CAMP BESTIVAL 2013
Camp Bestival has its niche firmly carved out as the premier child-friendly but musically-credible event on the summer calendar, the festival in Dorset has also managed to retain a boutique ambience whilst having a capacity of some 30,000. That said, when it feels like over half of your crowd are in the five to ten age-bracket, maybe you can squeeze a lot more little bodies into the available space.
And it’s a fact that there are children everywhere. Children in pushchairs, children in custom-pimped trollies, children up flagpoles, children weighed down by stacks of 10p deposit pint cups. There are kids crammed against the fence around the jousting arena, kids making clay models and kids sprouting tails. There’s youngsters learning to dance, being entertained by the blue coats and hanging upside-down from the giant Hi De Hi letters on the hill above the Big Top.
Indeed it almost seems to have been an entry-requirement that you brought a toddler or pre-teen with you to get through the gates.
There were still some people without young families in tow this year – but they were in a considerable minority. Fundamentally, Camp Bestival takes the concept of a festival kids’ zone to the limits and still doesn't leave the ‘adult entertainment’ as an afterthought.

I feel so like *Pimp* using the *F* word and all. LOL - For the Musically Challenged group! Do I look smart in my glasses? I think so. :D
Who gives a fuck about an oxford comma?
I've seen those english dramas too
They're cruel
So if there's any other way
To spell the word
It's fine with me, with me
Why would you speak to me that way
Especially when I always said that I
Haven't got the words for you
All your diction dripping with disdain
Through the pain
I always tell the truth
Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma
Who gives a fuck about an oxford comma?
I climbed to dharamsala too, I did
I met the highest lama
His accent sounded fine
To me, to me
Check your handbook
It's no trick
Take the chapstick
Put it on your lips
Crack a smile
Adjust my tie
Know your boyfriend, unlike other guys
Why would you lie about how much coal you have?
Why would you lie about something dumb like that?
Why would you lie about anything at all?
First the window, then it's to the wall
Lil' Jon, he always tells the truth
Check your passport
It's no trick
Take the chapstick
Put it on your lips
Crack your smile
Adjust my tie
Know your butler, unlike other guys
Why would you lie about how much coal you have?
Why would you lie about something dumb like that?
Why would you lie about anything at all?
First the window, then it's through the wall
Why would you tape my conversations?
Show your paintings
At the united nations
Lil' Jon, he always tells the truth

I'm not sure yet about life,
about love,
but in time,
im sure....
i'll be fine.
Not Sure Yet - Andy Lange
these feelings have been rolling around me all weekend. i have no idea what's going on, but today has been one of the most shittiest since the beginning of 2010. not only did i have a panic attack during finance class, i was conned into staying later for class, and some other stuff involving a guy friend. I feel a whole lot of anger, bruised feelings, and i just feel like a girl. i hate feeling like a girl! i feel weak! not like its a bad thing i just feel...helpless. but I can control what i do, i can control what bothers me and how they affect me.
I wish i could stay angry, life would be much easier. but... angry brings frowns.
i know, in time I will be fine. but today I realized that I'm just another girl, with feelings, and im not invincible, and you know. i think it's okay to finally hurt. it's just life. I DO miss having someone there for me, to hold me, to tell me it's going to be okay. someone to love me. i think the healing process just began.
great now i have to thank my guy friend.

I just learned the hard news that Gran Turismo Sport, the game that inspired me visually, musically, and spiritually since 2018, will shut down its server in the next week. The game that gave me an eye for beauty and the chance to fall in love with chicago-born music genre that is called House music. In fact, it’s an understatement to call it a video game, it is in every sense an art piece made with the most tasteful of ingredients and masterfully blended by craftsmen at Polyphony Digital. Without it, I wouldn’t have picked up a camera, have MINI cooper as my first car, or even participated in motorcross and road rally event. To this day, I still put up its soundtrack on my road trips, it constantly reminds me of the pure joy and freedom of roaming this planet. I don’t think I can finish writing this post without shedding my tears, but all good things must come to an end, except that it will live on forever in my memories. And I will keep going, to the Le Mans and Nurburgring.
