Guardian ad Litem work sucks sometimes. Today was one of those times.

I work with Native Americans. What I see and hear is devastating, and now I am numb to it. It takes a lot to surprise me these days. The level of poverty and desperation, the total and complete lack of opportunity, the racism in neighboring towns, the ignorance of the majority...you think inner city ghettos are bad? Try living on an impoverished, isolated reservation!

They don't have much, but they call their reservations home. They are connected to their land (what little they have) in a way that we are not. It is in their blood. It is their heart and home.

Throughout Harriet Backer's 50-year career, women's rights changed radically. Being a woman and an artist became accepted. Backer was talented and determined, inspiring a new generation of women and men in the Norwegian art world.

In Backer’s family, art and culture were part of how the children were raised. Her older sister Agathe was musically gifted and wanted to become a pianist. She had to go abroad to learn, and Harriet became her sister's traveling companion. This gave Harriet the opportunity to visit art museums and get to know the historical masters of the art world at a young age. Agathe eventually became a renowned composer and concert pianist, while Harriet became an important artist.

Backer showed an early talent and interest in art, but embarked on full-time studies rather late in life. In 1874, at 29 years, she decided to travel to Munich. The art community in Norway was small, so one had to go abroad.

The art academies in Europe were reserved for men in those days, but women could receive private tuition or attend "women's classes". During her years in Munich, Backer had several teachers. In 1878 she moved to Paris to continue her studies.

Being accepted for exhibition at the Salon in Paris was an important step on the path to becoming a professional artist. In 1880, Backer was accepted with the painting Solitude. Hundreds of artists exhibited at these exhibitions at the same time, and the paintings hung close together, from floor to ceiling. The jury thought Backer's painting was excellent, and she was honoured with a diploma, known as a Mention honorable.

In Munich, Backer learned to paint in a style characterised by a high level of detail and dark colours. We see this for example in Avskjeden (The Farewell), from 1878. When she came to Paris, she was greatly inspired by impressionism. In one of her best-known paintings, Blått interiør (Blue Interior), painted five years after Avskjeden, the transformation of her painting style is evident. Clear and pure colours dominate the composition. From this point on, the interaction between figure, interior and light effects became a theme that permeated Backer's paintings. How to create contrasts between the light indoors and outdoors? How are colours perceived in lamplight compared to daylight? She approached her subjects with these issues in mind.

Backer started her career with a desire to become a portrait painter. She painted many friends and acquaintances, and also received portrait commissions. But it is her interior scenes she has become best known for. She painted interiors from all walks of life – from farmhouses to bourgeois living rooms. For the most part, Backer's rooms are populated by women.

In 1888, Backer established herself in Norway, and from 1892 to 1910 ran a painting school in Kristiania. She became a popular teacher. Her openness to new ideas in both art and social development was appreciated. She sympathised with the women's movement, but did not actively participate in political work.

In the women's cause, Backer was recognised more for what she did than what she said – as a renowned artist she was an important role model. Together with friend and fellow artist Kitty Kielland, she was a pioneer who paved the way for women to have the opportunity to choose art as a career path.

On 11 June 2022 the new National Museum opened in Oslo. This is the largest museum in the Nordics. The new museum now consists of the collections of the former National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Norwegian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.

The new museum has a permanent exhibition of about 6 500 objects. Design, arts and crafts, fine art as well as contemporary art will be exhibited alongside each other. As such, the permanent exhibition highlights interesting connections between different collections that previously have been on show at three different museums. Additionally, audiences will be able to see the most famous paintings by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch, including The Scream (1893) and Madonna (1894).

The building was designed by Kleihues + Schuwerk Gesellschaft von Architekten, with emphasis on dignity and longevity over sensationalist architecture. Great care was given to achieve a balance with the museum’s surroundings and the existing monuments in the area, such as Oslo City Hall and Akershus Fortress.

The most eye-catching feature of the new museum is the large, illuminated exhibition hall on top of the building. It will be used for temporary exhibitions.

The rooftop terrace offers a unique view of the inner Oslo fjord. The square in front of the main entrance has become an urban meeting place, with benches and a café that invites you in to take a rest.

Saturday started before the sun up. Our model texting me to check-in b/c it was raining down by her house, and we were having an outdoor shoot. She was actually more concerned about the humidity and her hair, heehee, but it was nice she gave me a heads up. It was clear and dry by us though, so no changes.

Got myself and the Tweedles ready and thank the heavens for my mom being a bit flexible and taking the boys for our first shoot. Took them over to her house.

And I will also thank the heavens for finding such a great make-up artist last minute on Friday night b/c she showed up and put it down! She did a fantastic job!

First photoshoot was in Hollywood for Lowrider Magazine. A seriously wicked '64 Impala. I left right after I got a couple of shots of the 2nd wardrobe change so I could pick up the Tweedles and came back as HunHun was packing up.

We headed out to Miami to finish shooting Akon's car for DUB. That was quick and easy.

Last shoot was back in Miramar for an up-and-coming MMA fighter. We did some promo and action shots inside the cage.

A late lunch was had and home we went.

As busy as it all was, and the boys had their moments of driving me nuts, it was all a great time of doing what we love. :)

Job hunting really sucks. but I've come to the conclusion that I need to stop fighting something that I'm good at. I need to stop fighting the urge to stay away from finance.

my first two years after transferring into FGCU was dedicated to building my financial foundation for success. I was slowly moving away from psychology and into finance to study financial behavior and was heavily involved with the Financial Managers Association chapter on campus - being fundraising chairperson for two years and VP, then stepping down to student advisor my last year.

It's been a weird month with the rejection and no answer backs from jobs I've applied to. The market is tough down here, and its overly saturated with students just graduating. I spent three years of my life cultivating a network of financial contacts and now I want to get into some type of marketing position? It's gotten almost silly.

I was offered the position in the beginning of the year. A contact of mine has been following my progress for two years and finally said he wanted me as an intern to maybe full time at his firm. I turned it down a month before graduation - idiot! I was an idiot!!

When I finally came to my senses and realized that I can't keep fighting what I'm good at (and I'm very good at finance) I called him up and he still wants me. (Thank God)

I have to call him end of this week because his firm is in the middle of a merge with another firm in Kansas City, but he said come in Monday for a little chit chat.

I hope I get that internship. I've decided that going back to grad school must happen, but it wont happen until January 2012, so I have a semester of an internship to figure out if I am going to pursue an MBA in Finance or a CFA or CFP program instead. So we'll see how it goes! hopefully it'll end in a job!

So my Buddy Nerboo has been a bit infatuated with goats and punching them lately. On my way home from snowboarding the other day I saw these goats and knew I had to take a pic for him. So today I drove back and took some shots.

omg i love this song. and i love Ames. You know that one friend that when you first meet and hang out you get that "Where the hell have YOU BEEN?!?!" well Ames is that person for me. It's super hard for me to make friends with girls because they can be catty at times. and its a super relief and a true joy when you meet phenomenal people. Recently, I've had the best luck with meeting amazing people from flickr <3.

Ames is amazing person and photographer. Every time we hang out she always brightens up my day. I'm so happy and glad that I was able to meet her and become really great friends this semester.

Fun Facts about Ames & I:

- we share the exact same birthday, I'm older by a few hours (no lie!)

- she introduced me to the ever-addicting nutella!

- she loves almost the exact same music I love, and shes down to listen to new things

- she brightens my day

I am somehow musically inspired lately, especially in my photography, as you might have seen in my last post and this one, also. The reason is the situation in our band is finally making some progress in finding a lead vocalist. We had auditions on saturday night and it all went splendidly. Our second guitarist's girlfriend came to the practice/auditions, too, and as she had nothing else to do, she borrowed my Nikon and took photos of us and our candidates in action. She held a DSLR for the second time and with a 1.8 lens most of the pictures came out of focus, but some also came quite great and artistic, when I helped her a bit. It was great showing someone else how to take photos with my camera as she found some great new angles, great new ways. She somewhat inspired me even more for my future shoots. Of course I could not let her have the Nikon all by herself, so when everyone else was taking a break, I went to feed my other muse and took some photos myself. Must I say I love my new lens? :)

And yeah, my life is pretty awesome at the moment. I found out I passed a really tough exam (so proud!), so only one more to go and I am in the second year of physics. Also my paycheck turned out to be quite bigger than expected PLUS I found some great new clothes on sale :) And I must not forget a celebratory romantic dinner with my boyfriend. We made a pizza, lit the candles and opened a bottle of nonalcoholic champagne (as we do not drink alcohol). All I can say is: A perfect life with a perfect boyfriend.

The Krewe's throws include a number of popular items including emblem beads, stuffed animals, signature beads, light-up Orpheus medallion beads, cups, three different types of doubloons, and 4-foot-long stuffed dragons.

They have a number of notable floats including the Dolly Trolley, the horse-drawn bus that was used in the opening of Hello Dolly with Barbra Streisand, the Smoking Mary which is a six unit float that looks like a steam locomotive, a Trojan horse and the Orpheus Leviathan Float, which is a three unit, 139-foot float, and the first Carnival float to use extensive fiber optic lighting.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Fats Domino wass the honorary grand marshall for 2014. His eldest son, Antoine Domino III, rode in the parade and perform his 85 year old father's music.

In addition to Fats Domino, Quentin Tarantino reigned as the krewe's celebrity monarch.

Since releasing his debut LP ‘Our Shining Skin’ on June 1, 2012, the path to success for the gifted and independent musician has transformed into a never-ending road. First picking up a guitar at the age of three and additionally turning his hand to the piano and drums,

In 2013, Sam is an unstoppable, roots, folk and blues artist, reminiscent of sounds such as Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Ryan Adams. Sam supported close friend and musical influence, Mike Rosenberg (Passenger) at Adelaide-based Fowlers Live, as an integral part of Mike’s ‘All the Little Lights’ album tour, a highlight of Sam’s career to date.

The recording of ‘Our Shining Skin’ saw Sam and his band work endlessly with the talented Barossa-based Jamie Blechynden of Stella Studios and VJ productions. Kicking off an Australian tour, Sam officially released the highly anticipated album at a sold out show on June 9, 2012, held at the Chateau’s acoustically brilliant ‘Long Room’. In June and July 2012, Sam crossed the country, delighting crowds and building his fan base in Melbourne, Hobart, Darwin and Adelaide, including an unforgettable sold out show with Sam’s full band at the prominent Adelaide venue, the Promethean Theatre on September 27, 2012.

Lately, I've been feeling incredibly numb. Unreachable. Existing without living. I thought the arrival of spring, with its beautiful weather and new life would chase away that depressed feeling I experience every winter. But I still feel like I'm stuck in a cold, empty, timeless world, while everything and everyone just passes by blurry and unreachable me. They're moving on, living.

And I've become a great actor, trying to hide this from the people around me. I just don't want to disappoint anyone. Unfortunately, that also means that I don't really have anyone to talk to about it.

I usually can talk myself out of the dark hole I wake up in most mornings. I tell myself that there are greater problems and worse situations I could be in. I'm doing okay, considering, I tell myself. But every now and then I feel like I have to check if I still have a heartbeat, because I just don't feel it. Feel me.
