One of my great moody mornings at the Beacons mountains back in February.

August isn't all sunshine and colour, often times the heather finds itself a character in a windswept, dramatic and moody landscape.

In all honesty when I started my hike out at 1:30 in the morning to reach Alport Castles for blue hour, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to be met with. The cloud composition on the weather data showed a very mixed bag, but in general showed the possibility of some nice light if the stars or in this case, the clouds aligned.

The light I'd hoped for never really materialised but not one to be a fair weather photographer, I appreciated this rather dark representation of Alport Castles looking every the bit the part for a location in a medieval drama.

Fuente Dé’s peaks wrapped in mist and mystery.

Captured in the heart of Namibia’s Namib Desert, this breathtaking dune in Sossusvlei glows with warm hues under the rising sun. The interplay of light and shadow creates a dramatic contrast, showcasing the raw beauty of one of the world’s oldest deserts. A mesmerizing landscape of solitude, timelessness, and nature’s artistry.

Emerging from dense morning fog, this ancient moss-covered tree takes on an almost mythical presence. I waited for the perfect balance of light and mist to capture its twisted form, with the vibrant moss creating an otherworldly contrast against the ethereal blue atmosphere.

This fall is not as impressive as some around the world, but it gives a landmark to those that walk these hills.

Le Mont Saint-Michel

Normandy, France.

At the edge of the Grand Canyon, silence becomes its own sound — vast, unbroken, and ancient.

Each ridge and shadow tells a story written in layers of time, while the sun traces contours across stone that has witnessed eons of wind and light.

Captured in midday clarity, this image celebrates contrast — between permanence and impermanence, sky and rock, stillness and depth.

A reminder that nature doesn’t rush — it only endures.

This is a shot that i have processed using a "tweaked" pre-set edit in lightroom. I like the graininess produced giving it that old photograph look.

Soft morning mist drifts over a calm lake, reflecting the dark silhouettes of the surrounding trees. The sky glows in gentle shades of pink and violet, diffused beautifully through the fog. Rocks in the foreground add structure and depth, while the still water draws the eye into the distance. The scene captures a delicate balance of coolness and warmth, silence and motion — a fleeting moment between night and day where nature seems to breathe.

My goodness .......... we have had all weather thrown at us in the valley ......... hurry up summer!

Morning light unfolding over the heath, between blossoms, webs and juniper. A day that begins in silence, yet tells stories of detail and depth, until the path itself becomes the last word.

As Mollie and i walked back to the car the bright sun shimmered across the water and lit up the sky. As you see there are pylons in the distance and power lines ahead running the width of the reservoir. This area is known for its abundant pylons!

Through the crumbled window of the old castle, the world below still breathes in silence. Morning light drifts over the Moselle — a quiet dialogue between time and stone.

Finally the day I've been after!

I'd long had my fill of blue skies before we even got to July and have been pining for days like yesterday with changeable weather and light.

My hike took me along the northern edge of Kinder Plateau, probably my favourite part of the park. The weather took a real turn after one o'clock and I knew there was a chance of catching some great light with perfect conditions for formation of rainbows, this came to fruition when I got to Fairbrook Naze, beautifully framing "The Toadstool".

What this photo doesn't convey is the how strong and cold the wind was, a rude awakening to the new season and truly world's apart from my last hike just two weeks ago...there were even little flecks in snow in rain at one point.

Hello autumn!

A dramatic view over the fjord and the sharp peaks of Lofoten, Norway. Standing here, surrounded by wind, water, and towering mountains, it’s impossible not to feel the raw power of nature. A moment of awe and silence before the storm rolls in.
