No signs of worship. No footsteps leading here.
And yet it stands, a crown of branches, carefully arranged,
as if the forest itself has memory and intention.
It’s not mine, but I feel its pull.
A structure with no builder, an altar with no offering,
built from the ruins of storms and time.
Maybe for gods we forgot,
or for something still watching....
Morning light unfolding over the heath, between blossoms, webs and juniper. A day that begins in silence, yet tells stories of detail and depth, until the path itself becomes the last word.

From the cottage we walked and followed this wall few times daily to give Mollie and Rupert their walk.
The wall led us to the end of the field, where we then left it behind to continue onward and upwards to the hills of the Welsh National Park.
After a bit of colourful deviation, back to some nice long exposure minimalism again in my preferred medium of Black & White This was shot at Rivington reservoir, Lancashire. A place I often visit but get tired of the standard shots outside of the colourful seasons, I've chosen to concentrate on tiny bit of the place here isolated within a very long exposure to try and add another dimension to an otherwise ordinary shot. Very minimal, it's either to your taste or it isn't, I really do enjoy creating this type of image with a camera, it makes you look at things in a far more creative way, (which may have just passed you by), in a whole new light, turning the ordinary, into the extraordinary.
Exposure: 161 seconds @ f16

The Salt Cellar on Derwent Edge is an iconic location, probably most popular in heather season. I re-visited this spot on Sunday with the aim of taking the same composition I shot in October last year, but my mind's-eye hadn’t quite remembered the angle and I ended up with slightly different take...which is no bad thing.
The colours couldn’t have been any different, the bilberry having not long come back to life along with the heather which is also getting greener as the weeks go by. Had I been here maybe an hour earlier I would have had pretty much the same skies as I had in October, however a band of weather swept across and provided a much more dramatic sky.

I went out hoping to capture a few shots for Our Daily Challenge on the theme “Chance.” Originally, I had something else in mind—but then the skies opened up. The sudden downpour gave me the unexpected opportunity to photograph this quiet moment: two people standing under a bright yellow umbrella, framed by autumn trees and reflected in the rain-soaked landscape. Sometimes, the best chances come when plans change.

Mist lowers into the glen like a slow exhale.
Between two quiet giants, the land rests, listening to its own silence.
North Ronaldsay, most Northerly of all the Orkney islands, population of approx just 60 people now, and not an easy Island to do, plane if the weather is ok, or a once a week ferry service that runs if the weather is ok, Certainly not for the feint hearted traveller... saying that, this was my second visit to the island, and all went well. I was really lucky with this shot as I'd been indoors for a while waiting to head down to the shore to shoot sunset, peered out of the window and saw this ginormous black storm cloud, one of the biggest I'd ever seen in Scotland, blowing in from out to sea, quick dash and get set up, as it was moving could see sort of what was going to happen, I just hoped it lasted long enough, and went high enough to frame the house in the golden light under all the black... as you can see, it did just that, managed a few decent shots of it but this was my pick of the bunch, a big thanks to whoever built that house right there to make the shot! Really happy with this one. A really stunning gem of a place, more sunset shots to follow, great to get a decent keeper for a reminder of a very special evening there.
As always I've marked the location to the map if anyone is interested.

A solitary, leafless tree stands under a glowing crescent moon, casting a long shadow over a misty field. The soft fog that lies low on the grass and the delicate starlight in the sky evoke a serene, dreamlike atmosphere. This nocturnal landscape captures a moment of deep stillness in nature, where light and dark intertwine gently.
It felt very much like winter today up on Kinder Scout, however the light still had that dramatic autumnal quality to it.
I spent maybe an hour trying to catch the right moment at this spot, there was some amazing haze that came through the valley between Grindslow Knoll and Upper Tor where I was situated. It illuminated like a giant golden vale and was an incredible sight to witness, but was too overpowering in the context of a photo.
Towards the end of golden hour a big bank of cloud starting heading down the Cheshire Gap and the scene took on a very dark and brooding mood, expressed the feeling the impending transition into winter.

Sometimes one is witness to light whose character the mind can't quite decide upon. I couldn't quite decide whether sunrise yesterday looked like the fire of creation or the fires of destruction and I imagine both might look the same.
Maybe that comes down to your outlook on life..? Half full, half empty and all that, although the glass doesn't exist for me, I drink everything out of a mug!

A quiet autumn afternoon in the Niepołomice Forest area, where birch trees glow in warm sunlight and the moon gently rises above drifting clouds. The path through the tall grass leads into the calm of nature — a perfect moment between light and stillness.
Deep within the La Cloche Mountains, I awoke before sunrise to partly cloudy skies which will often result in a good sunrise. There was some lingering mist from the cold temperatures overnight and these conditions combined to create one of the best sunrises I have ever seen.

My goodness .......... we have had all weather thrown at us in the valley ......... hurry up summer!
Shot way back in March, I felt that I'd not only rushed this shot, but also that it didn't quite fit into my "style" and disregarded it.
Looking back over my catalogue today whilst choosing photo's for my promotional cards I re-discovered this one and decided to process it.
This has definitely made me consider doing my "big vista" shots in the in future...we'll see.
There are a few of these dotted about the valley ... one of them is larger than this, but its too spooky to go down! Im a wuss!
After walking up and around the wonderful Monastery of Mont Saint-Michel, we found ourselves back outside in the fresh air, to be met again by the gloomy weather!
The morning of my short trip to Edale contrasted beautifully against the turbulent and dramatic one that went before it. Whilst making my way up Grindsbrook I very much expected it to be like this once I got to the top, going to show how quickly the conditions can change in these parts.
I've seen Alpen Glow only twice now and both at this location; Ringing Roger. The "Ringing" part of this name comes from the older use of the word in English to just mean a sound rather than a bell, which in this case refers to the sound of the wind through the rocks. Who is "Roger" then? This comes from the French "rocher" which of course means "rock". The name for this place therefore essentially means “the rocks through which the wind blows loud” or something to that effect.
This composition is an exposé of nothing new, I’ve seen several versions of this from different photographers and is the essentially the classic view from this spot, looking across towards Broadlee-Bank Tor and Grindslow Knoll with Mam Tor and Rushup Edge in the far distance.

Another day off, another completely dry day, it's been a while....! spent a few hours along the shore of Coniston, not many people about today at all allowing for some good time spent relaxing and shooting without disturbance, just a gentle breeze about today with generally good conditions. The lack of service boats at this time of year is another bonus if you are out shooting, the steamer passed once which was great to watch and comes nowhere near the jetty.

Bamford Edge Hike Pt.2:
I've thus far avoided shooting any of the "classic" compositions in the Peak District, mostly as a deliberate choice as I often wonder "what can I really add to this that hasn't already been shown?"
This view however, captivated me and I felt compelled to shoot what I was seeing. The weather had drawn in creating a very moody atmosphere and amongst the gloom Ladybower sat looking like mercury in the bottom of the valley.
For those who don't know, this is shot on Bamford Edge looking north-east over Ladybower dam and reservoir. I've researched and attempted to find out the story behind the initials/lettering carved into the gritstone, but have drawn a blank, so if anyone knows I'd love to hear the story.

The morning mist had faded, leaving the Moselle valley calm and wide open.
From the upper trail of Niederburg, the world stretched out in soft tones —
a quiet breath between light and silence.
