Bamburgh lighthouse on a chilly morning.

Presented in mono as I intended when the shutter was fired.

An approaching storm front--it snowed a tiny bit in the valley (Lee Vining) and snowed alot in the mountains. ;-)

At Mono Lake I was drawn to the early morning light in the small bushes surrounding the parking lot.

I know this kind of defeats the purpose of photographing the northern lights, but I figured I'd give it a shot and see how aurora looks in black and white. taken in central Alberta north of Sundre.

The Eastern Sierras had some great snowfall in 2011. Wandering through the Owens Valley in April was a treat.

'MONO DAISY' - RICOH CAPLIO R7 TEST

TAKEN JULY 2024

Arrived a little too late for sunset and was always 'chasing' this LE. I've probably pushed the raw file too hard here as a consequence! Anyhow it's a first attempt at an arty type mono here...dare say I'll be back to try again.

Pre-dawn light on Mono Lake, as seen from the vista point above the Mobil station in Lee Vining. I took a quick trip up to Yosemite over the weekend to celebrate the road opening and spent Saturday night in Lee Vining. Got up early Sunday to catch the sunrise in the park and to get back to the Bay Area for Mother's Day activities. (5/12/2013)

(Technical note: I took this handheld about a half-hour before sunrise with my 80-400mm lens at 330mm. Even at the max ISO of the D600 (6400), I still was only able to get the shutter speed up to 1/80s, counting on the vibration reduction (VR) in the lens to get me the rest of the way. Definitely a fair amount of noise in the image, but it actually turned out pretty faithful to how things looked.)

This is the first of a three-day landscape challenge laid down by one of my favorite Flickr contacts, www.flickr.com/photos/bossbob50/16203022999/.

At the end of three days, I will challenge three lucky more. :-)

After yesterdays colorful image thought I'd post a b/w image.

A b/w version of an earlier shot of Idaho's Galena Summit and southern Sawtooths. An area I look forward to returning to.

Mono Lake on a clear morning - colors weren't great but I nice morning anyway.....

Mono Lake, a terminal lake with no outlet, is one of my favourite places in California. "Tufa" rock formations in the lake are an interesting geological feature. Had to go there for a second time because we reached late during the first trip. This time it was two hours before sunset and we had ample time to scrouge for the best location. And the trip was worth it !!!! More at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_Lake

I wanted to build something roverish for the theme of this month, but I wanted it to be different. So I started thinking mono-track vehicle and this thing ensued. A little to large to be classified as a rover perhaps, but I managed to address the key concern of vehicles of this type. Basically it combines the ability to lean into corners like a bike - with the side tires for stability/drag to help cut sharper corners faster then just a lean. This system actually functions quite well.

This is not quite as refined as some of my builds, but it's just an idea. Now I just need to scale it back down to rover size.

The elusive Mono that apparently not alot of people saw at CW. There weren't any cars driving by, so i couldn't do long exposure, so just took a simple flash instead unfortunately.

Mono Lake by itself is an interesting place, but the setting, with the mountains in the background, adds much more interest to the scene.
