Stracinska cove on the island of Solta, Croatia

This morning there was a lot of wind and some snow. The weather report promised a small cloud window in the evening, which I deliberately looked for and finally - found.

Good morning to the Great Salt Lake and the wonderful spring runoff that’s pouring in! And good morning to all of you!

Poisoned Glen, Dunlewey, Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland

Built in 1848 Dunlewey Church is quaintly seated in the picturesque valley of ‘The Poisoned Glen’ at the foot of Errigal Mountain overlooking Dunlewey Lough. You may be wondering how this stunning glen got such an unfitting name? Well, here is the legend...

Ancient legend states that two rival giants pursued each other to this valley thousands of years ago to commence in battle. One giant named Lug Lamhfada slayed the other giant named Balor by striking him between the eyes with a massive stone. Balor fell to the ground, suddenly turning to rock. His blood poured out, poisoning the glen to this very day.... Hence the name Poisoned Glen. If you look at the central mountains in the distant background you may just see the head of ‘The Fallen Giant’ he is laying on his back facing upwards.

The other story I’ve heard on why its named Poisoned Glen was due to a spelling error. Hundreds of years ago the English mistakenly translated the Glen's true Irish name of ‘Heavenly Glen’ to ‘Poisoned Glen’ who really knows? but I personally prefer the Giant's legend best 📖

Sunset above 10,000 feet just hits different.

I took a trip with with my fellow drone guy, @pfunk_photography. We wanted to capture a crazy phenomenon caused by all of the storms this winter. What you’re looking at isn’t the Great Salt Lake or a lake at all. It’s the Bonneville Salt Flats covered by as much as a foot and a half of water! And yes, those are paddle boarders down there on the surface. I’ve seen a little water on the salt flats before but I’ve never seen them covered like this! So much water! Fans of Speed Week are going to be really disappointed this year. But we’ve got a hot new paddle boarding destination!

On 5 December 2024, 1216.012, the only locomotive of the class in the blue Nightjet design, hauled the RJ 85 to Venezia Santa Lucia. I was able to document the modern international express train near Nierderaudorf in the Inn Valley. The top of the Kranzhorn was slightly snow-covered.

Loom is a type of machine that is made from cotton yarn or cotton made from cotton. And those who sow clothes using loom are called weaving. The history of Bangladeshi loom industry is very ancient. Various districts of Bangladesh inherited this ancient heritage. The culture of this country is involved in this industry. The weavers are our holders and traders. It is also one of the largest cottage industry or folk art of the country.

I saw another photographer commenting online that winter is pink. I’m inclined to agree.

Near Vícenice on 18 January 2025, I chose the view from above to capture the R 765 ‘Berounka’ from Klatovy to Praha hl.n.. The express train hauled by the 362.117 in Najbrt 1 design stood out well in the snowless, barren winter landscape. This class of dual-system locomotives handles all the traffic between Klatovy and Plzen.

Unfortunately, operations on the Brenner feeder line have become somewhat more monotonous. The reason for this is the fact that the TX-Logistik company has recently returned some of its rather attractive advertising locomotives to the respective leasing company and these have lost their colourful liveries. For example, the 193 551 rented from Alpha Trains, which had a motif with two magnets on the sides. The company's own Vectrons are currently being delivered to TX-Logistik. So far, however, these have not been characterised by an interesting design. Rumour has it that the dedicated employee who was responsible for many of the attractive designs on earlier locomotives has also left the company. On 9 March 2025, I was able to document 193 551, which had been decaled a few days earlier, in front of another Alpha Trains Vectron near Niederaudorf in the Inn Valley in front of a southbound intermodal train. This performance left me somewhat perplexed. The second locomotive was probably the 193 401, which speaks in favour of a Lokomotion train. Allegedly, the 193 551 had been leased to Lokomotion after its return. The trailers, however, rather indicate a TXL service. Perhaps a follower can shed some light on this?

Gunlock Falls is likely Utah’s most photographed waterfall right now. I had to go visit it for myself because of what it represents. This waterfall only flows when Gunlock Reservoir completely fills, water flows over the spillway and onto the red rocks below. This hasn’t happened in years, but thanks to our amazing winter, the falls are flowing and there is precious water in the desert once again.

Yes, another one. I was able to get a bunch of shots that I really liked when I was just in VT so I have a few that I wanted to share. This is a look down shot from a spot that has become the "go-to" location with a drone in Vermont in the Fall. I know IG as come to call these Top-Down pics but I just can't get used to saying that. Its not the top, therefore it's not a top-down. There is more above me, so not the top. I fell like an old fogie complaining about what the kids are up to. Like calling sunset "the burn". It's just not coming out of my mouth.

The first time I visited Snow Canyon years ago, I was amazed at all of the volcanic rock I saw. I wondered where the source was. Turns out, I didn’t have to look far. Here’s one of a couple volcanic cones in the area.

I’ve decided that the creature under the red rock might be a sleeping dragon. Do you see it?

Mit dem KLV-Zug KT 42129 von Köln Eifeltor nach Verona Q.E. waren am 08. Februar 2025 die 193 352 und 355 unterwegs, als ich sie bei Niederaudorf im Inntal fotografieren konnte.

On 08 February 2025, 193 352 and 355 were on their way with the intermodal train KT 42129 from Cologne Eifeltor to Verona Q.E. when I was able to photograph them near Niederaudorf in the Inn Valley.

Motion in the waters stirs salt and sediments into shapes and patterns along the lakeshore.

Saturday was day trip day with @pfunk_photography ! Stand by for a series of Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty and the north end of the Great Salt Lake.

Autumn in New England. I guess I have waited long enough to post this. I had uploaded so many pics immediately after returning from my last trip to Vermont that I had to put this one on the back burner. I arrived just before dawn and there was much more low cloud foggy haze just above the water. It made a great moody atmosphere but the light shortly after looked better on the foliage. It was tough to decide which ones to work on. With the camera, I would have preferred the slightly darker pics but from the drone I like the pics from when the sun is just slightly higher.

The long light trails of early morning traffic work their way along their lines. Downtown Los Angeles during sunrise on a weekend morning. The 4-level interchange, in DTLA, provides endless composition options. The best are from the air. The Mavic 3 and some color grading makes it pop. This is (almost) as South as the morning sun will rise. It ended up close enough to get some color in the sky near the buildings. New buildings here. New buildings there. Buildings building build.

The Henry’s Fork River is so clear and beautiful as it flows from its headwaters at Big Springs to Island Park Reservoir! Visitors can float the river in kayaks or tubes and appreciate its beauty in close. You can often spot huge trout and moose along the way.

Mount Bromo is an active volcano crater located in East Java, Indonesia. The name Bromo comes from the Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. Mount Bromo is one of three monolithic peaks situated in the Tengger Massif caldera in the Bromo-Tergger-Semeru National Park. At 2,392 meters tall, Mt Bromo is not among the tallest of Indonesia's mountains but its stunning beauty lies in its incredible setting. From a vantage point on Mount Penanjakan (2,770 meters above sea level), 2.5 hours from Malang. visitors from around the world come to see the sunrise over Mt Bromo.

Tumpak Sewu is a tiered waterfall that is located between the Pronojiwo District in East Java, Indonesia. The waterfall is overshadowed by Semeru, an active volcano and the highest mountain in Java. As stated in legend, Semeru was transplanted from India to create the island of Java. Tumpak Sewu means "a thousand waterfalls." From above it looks like the tree of life, from below it is immensely powerful, and from all angles, it is quite simply mindblowing and one of the most amazing locations in East Java.

One of my favorite dirt roads because of the way it winds along the bank of the reservoir and for the way forest comes right up to the edge of the road. Just a sliver of human influence running through the wild.

In the early morning we were still standing at the top of the big peak of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Unfortunately with normal boring midday sunlight.

In the evening, when we were on our way back to the hotel, the lighting was beautiful! (Meals calling…)

Unfortunately much too far away to legally fly this long distance to take a picture with the 24mm lens.

So I used the 7x lens and created this 40 megapixel panorama

"The desert, when the sun comes up. I couldn't tell where heaven stopped and the Earth began."

- Tom Hanks

I first visited the Spiral Jetty in the spring of 2017. The lakeshore was about 100 yards from the Jetty at the time. This spring, due to drought, the edge of the lake is at least a half mile away. But the area is still stunning.

Once in a while you are blessed with just the right set of conditions. It's the being in the right place at the right time kind of scenario. This spectacular sunrise was from a trip to Downtown Los Angeles just a few days after the Mavic 3 had its long-awaited first major firmware update. The one that released pano mode. This update, needless to say, was very much anticipated and very much desired. This would also, as it turned out, be a morning of learning a very valuable lesson in mourning. As the sky was turning these colors, I was snapping away panos. Aiming the lens, this way and that way. Wide-angle shots: Done. 180º shots: Plenty. I was so excited to shoot under these conditions with the new pano settings that I didn't even think to set up even just one regular photo. Smiling, I packed everything up as the show ended and headed home. I have been pretty busy lately, life gets like that sometimes, and I put the files on the computer and re-packed the drone bag for an upcoming trip to Mammoth. Fast forward to being in Mammoth, and for some reason formatting the SD card before shooting there. Loving all of the options that the new firmware had given me and being excited to start playing around with the files. I was back home and on the computer re-visiting the super-sunrise DTLA shots and wondering where the single RAW photos were from pano mode. I think you get where this is going. Long story longer: I now know that the pano shots are kept together in a completely separate folder. Only the merged jpegs are in the main folder. So, to sum up what a dutz I am. What you are looking at is the best single frame photo that I had available as a RAW photo from this morning. There are plenty of beautiful, fully composed, pano shots. In Jpeg. Ouch.
