On the morning of 20 June 2025, a long container train rushed past the former Oberhaun station on the north-south line. The Haune Valley in eastern Hesse, with its well-kept villages, looks in places like something out of a picture book of Germany.

Currently rented out to ÖBB are some of the SBB Cargo Vectrons leased from Railpool. One of the locomotives from this contingent is 6193 107, christened ‘Bodensee’, which I spotted on 5 March 2025 with a container train in the pre-spring Altmühl valley near Hagenacker.

It snows regularly in Munich too - but the weather doesn't usually play ball for beautiful winter pictures. So on 3 January 2025, I took advantage of the hour when the sun briefly appeared in the late morning. At the Braunau railway bridge, I was able to take a picture of 101 103 with IC 2082 on its journey to Hamburg-Altona. Starting on the right, the view sweeps over Untergiesing with the Heilig-Kreuz church on Giesinger Berg. In the centre of the picture you can see the new factory district at Ostbahnhof with the Ferris wheel. A little further to the left is the Mariahilfkirche in the Au. Then the German Museum on the Isar and the Church of St Maximilian at the very edge of the picture.

Do these fins of rock look like they belong to giant, subterranean fish? I’m imagining a school of giant, stone fish swimming across the desert, just under the surface of the sand.
Visitors to Utah almost always say it’s like visiting another planet. Goblin Valley is one of the top reasons why.

No trip to the Spiral Jetty is complete without a top down shot. I wish I had caught some people out walking on it to show the scale. The jetty is 15 feet wide and 1500 feet long and looks even more impressive in person.
Murder Hole Beach, Rosguill Peninsula, Downings, County Donegal, Ireland
Many people throughout the world seem to have a misconception that Ireland is beautiful simply for its "40 shades of green" but in fact Ireland has so much more than green! with its versatile landscapes ranging from green pastures, lakes, forests, mountains & sandy beaches like this surrounded in lush green prairies! that could only be matched by those found in the Tropics. We have it all right here
Don’t be fooled by its unpleasing nickname because this beach is a true Irish gem. There are no paths, road nor signs & it involves a long hike over a giant hill to even reach! This must be one of the most stunningly beautiful beaches you could ever set eyes on. It may have the most uninviting name you’ve ever heard off, but always remember you should “never judge a book by its cover”. This beach is getting prettier by the day especially during stormy conditions like this

Late afternoon light across a Canola crop near Salem, South Australia..
Probably another 4-5 weeks away from being ready for harvest.
A combination of two images, from 1 drone shot, turned into a rich painterly look.
One copy of the photo on a layer to enhance all the whites in the branches of the tree.
The second copy turned into an oil painting with Topaz simplify and placed below the first layer.
I just played around with the opacity and blend modes of the first layer.
80% opacity and a blend mode of Multiply gave it this look.
4 frame manual stitched panorama
The bridge is a duplication of the existing Houghton Highway from Brighton to Redcliffe Peninsula in Brisbane crossing Hays Inlet in Bramble Bay. It is 2.7km long and is estimated to have cost A$315m.
****It is considered the longest bridge in Australia****
This is a follow-up shot to the one i posted 3 weeks ago of the same circle, taken just 2 days after the other one. I wanted to give a bit of context to its location, but was surprised to see in that time that the "aliens" (or what/whoever) had been back and added a series of diminshing circles on the outside of the design - zoomed in, there are no obvious signs on many of these additions how they were created, with no foot marks or track obvious.
While i was definitely pleased to be able to catch the picture again, the circle had literally only another hour or so to "live" as the combine harvesters moved in and started to clear the field even as i watched
For those unfamiliar with crop circles, they are patterns created by flattening a crop usually a cereal. The term was first coined in the early 1980s. Although obscure natural causes or alien origins of crop circles have been suggested by fringe theorists, there is no scientific evidence for such explanations, and all crop circles are consistent with human-made items (although with the more elaborate ones, its not always possible to see how!)
Although such formations have appeared worldwide, south-west England is considered without doubt to be the “world capital” of crop circles. They are particularly concentrated in the county of Wiltshire, where a treasure trove of ancient history includes the Neolithic sites of Stonehenge and Avebury – both crop circle hotspots. There have been 380 crop circles recorded in the county alone since 2005
May is a special month in the context of the beauty of the Polish landscape - it is then that the rape fields bloom and give the landscape brightness and a beautiful yellow colour. This year I'm observing them from the air for the first time. From a height of 1.8 m, Poland is beautiful. From a height of over 100m, it is even more beautiful, because you can see more beauty at once.
Image is stacked from 3 shots, merged in Lightroom. That gave the output resolution of 8148x2712.

River Bann, Lough Beg, Magherafelt, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland
Many years ago this was once a true island surrounded by river water on all sides, however during the 1930’s the shores receded due to the dredging of the river Bann. Nowadays only one side of this island is on the shore and the opposite side is a marshland. During heavy winter rains the river Bann swells and re-floods this marshland, so Church Island does amazingly return to its historic 100% island state for only a few days each year
This church was built on the site of a pre-Viking monastery during the 12th century and was in use for 500 years but was burned down in 1603 during the ‘Plantation of Ulster’ period. Around this church ruin is an old cemetery containing about 50 known graves and the site of the ancient monastery which St. Patrick is credited in establishing during the 5th century.
The spire of this old church ruin was added much later in 1788 by the Earl of Bristol (Bishop of Derry). He built this spire because he desired to see the location of these ruins better from his grand palace which he built across the way.
This spire is known locally as Hervey’s Folly. During World War 2 an American aircraft was flying so low that it actually clipped its wing tip on this spire which bent the structure! It has since been straightened by the Department of the Environment who now maintain these ruins as a historical landmark.

As on the previous day, the anniversary Railjet ‘100 years of ÖBB’ ran on 17 November 2024 as RJX 564 from Vienna Airport to Innsbruck main station. A photo was taken from the drone near Niederaudorf.
The RJ 87 from Munich main station to Bologna Centrale was hauled extraordinarily by 1016.035 on 30 December 2024. A locomotive change had to take place at the Brenner Pass at the latest. I was able to document the rare use of an ES 64 U2 in front of the new Railjet for Italian traffic near Langkampfen in Tyrol.
A cold morning after a rainy night seen from my drone. It's a merged panorama of 10 images from DJI Mavic 3's telephoto lens.

Forces that wear us down and leave us feeling cracked and broken might be creating something even more beautiful.
As blue hour began and the Jetty dropped into shadow, the Great Salt Lake began to show off. The still evening made the surface just like glass.

This small circular rainbow or ‘Halo’ is an optical phenomenon known as a ‘Glory’. Identical to a Brocken Spectre (minus a human silhouette in centre), Glories are caused by sunlight interacting off tiny water droplets in mist or clouds which reflect the colours of a rainbow. Rare solar glory rainbows can be observed around mountains or hillsides.

Some nice light and long shadows at sunset, in the Adelaide Hills, near Mt Barker, South Australia.
The tree casting the longest shadow is not an overly large tree but looking at a Google Earth map I measure the shadow to be at least 200 metres long.
I thought I would just throw in that entirely irrelevant information.
On 3 January 2025, Munich city centre was covered in snow. I took advantage of a small sunny patch to fly the drone at the Braunau railway bridge. I was able to photograph the EC 218 on its journey from Graz to Frankfurt, the locomotive at the rear of the train was 1116.252. It's interesting that you can even get the Frauenkirche, the landmark of the Bavarian metropolis, in the picture from this perspective. In the centre of the picture you can see the Olympic Tower and St. Paul's Church.

A parting shot from the Spiral Jetty. I’ll just close this series out by saying how grateful I am for vistas like this that remind me how much beauty there is in the world. Have a great weekend everyone!
Formerly a country plague, the black Vectrons taken over by MRCE are now almost a rarity. In service for TXLogistik is 193 641, which together with 193 833 on loan from Boxxpress hauled the KLV train DGS 43101 from Wanne-Eickel to Verona Quadrante Europa on 9 March 2025. Near Niederaudorf, I was able to document the interesting tandem together with its colourful trailer entourage with the aid of the flying equipment.
The RJ 87 from Munich main station to Bologna Centrale is normally hauled by a class 1293 locomotive. On 01 December 2024, however, the 1216.008 could be found in front of this train. This photo was taken near Niederaudorf in the Inn Valley, the train only has a few kilometres to go to the Austrian border.
