Brand new casting for 2021 Case C and one which has already proven popular and proving yet again Matchbox aren't afraid to do things differently. The 1979 Chevrolet Nova is hardly left field but its a vehicle virtually unknown outside of America. Mint and boxed.

Queuing outside a Tesco supermarket was certainly worth it when I found a fresh case of Batch B Matchbox. Even after all these months this assortment is the exception and not the norm in most of their stores so was definitely a lucky find. This new 1941 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe really is stunning and with MBX currently on a "3 for 2" offer it was a bargain. Mint and boxed.

A rather late follow on recolour of the weird, wonderful and extremely obscure 1949 Kurtis Sport Car by Matchbox. A very worthy follow I might add which continues with the glossy metallic theme and of course they dare not delete the chromed front and side panels which were a feature of the real Kurtis.

I rarely have any luck in finding rare and juicy diecasts from places like charity shops or flea markets. What I wasn't expecting was to be given a small bag of old Matchbox models which to me are in almost perfect condition and which were heading for the skip! I would have been delighted if they had only dated from the last few years or few decades but was gobsmacked when I discovered they were early Superfast era ones!

Apart from the part loss of its front sticker and a few paint chips this VW 1500 Saloon looks almost as fresh as the day it left the factory! It predates my childhood by a number of years so to get one now is truly amazing. Good old fashioned Lesney quality ensures a VERY high metal content which gives it that old fashioned weighty feeling plus of course its working suspension. The good old days really were the good old days where Matchbox is concerned! :-)

Yet more Matchbox Moving Parts releases for 2023 and we are still in January! Clearly the MBX Team have really gotten behind this range of "basic +" castings which basically means mainline quality and detailing with the added bonus of opening features. A bit like Majorette but without the working suspensions ;-p

Theres already a lot of love for their 1980 Porsche 911 Turbo and I suspect there will be even more with this gleaming metallic brown recolour. Simple and elegant with some particularly nice rear tampo detailing. The ill matched coloured doors we will have to gloss over sadly as it seems to be a permanent feature on most castings subject to separate body parts.

One of the early pioneers of the civilised SUV craze but who's contribution to this all conquering genre has been overlooked, certainly outside of North America, by the Range Rover.

You'll now find this original style Grand Wagoneer in both the Matchbox and Hot Wheels line up, the former obviously taking a more stock looking approach and all the better for it.

Another childhood model which has somehow managed to survive various house moves and rough playtimes is this rather crusty looking Matchbox Dodge Challenger. I can't remember whether vigorous playground daredevil stunts or a penchant for open air motoring saw the demise of its white plastic roof but at least its blackened chrome interior can now be viewed unhindered ;-p. A decent little casting which survived until fairly recently and seeing various different custodians of the Matchbox brand.

Brand new Matchbox 1970 Ford Capri which happily for anybody who's country gets a 72 count per case will find five of them contained within. That means plenty to add extra detailing such as some very 1970's black bumpers, not original, and that must have accessory a vinyl roof! Mint and boxed.

It would probably be a bit mean for complaining about the lack of chrome on this new recolour of the Matchbox 1962 VW Beetle as its white plastic has been deliberately put there to reflect its winter theme. So so very very charming as this has always been a mighty fine rendition of a classic VW Beetle despite being retooled recently in the name of cost cutting. Part of a five vehicle set which has literally just begun to arrive at Tesco. Mint and boxed.

Stunning new 2021 recolour of one of my favourite 50's era Matchbox models of recent years. A very imposing model of this huge late 50's saloon complete with all the styling cliches Detroit could throw at it! Standard issues don't have chrome though they do use black coloured plastic which at least looks far less cheapo than unpainted grey! Mint and boxed.

Brand new Matchbox 1965 Ford C900 now appearing at Tesco. One of several found and a particular favourite of mine at the moment. Mint and boxed.

Great to find a stall with plenty of opportunity to fill some gaps in my Superfast collection.

Matchbox no 11. The black grille is Matchbox Lesney, the cream grille is Matchbox Int'l, made in Macau.

Matchbox 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT which now finally gets a follow on recolour after its black debut over a year ago. Taking into account this cost me the equivalent of a HTI generic you can appreciate why i'm very enthusiastic about the casting and the effort which has gone into it for its intended price point and toy status.

Everything about the new Matchbox Autobahn Express five vehicle set is just right, a perfect combination of modern and classic vehicles, all licensed and all in brand new colours. Included is this metallic gold Alfa Romeo Giulia, a very pretty Italian sports saloon which hasn't done very well at all sadly when competing with the dominant German marques.

Thankfully its thriving at Matchbox who have done a commendable job replicating it.

Brand new 2023 Matchbox 2018 Toyota 4Runner which apart from its expected small size, Mattel Metal Diet, is a decent offering as far as the low price point will allow.

The novelty of finding the new Matchbox 2016 Nissan Sentra clearly hasn't worn off which is handy as they are becoming increasingly easy to find now the initial enthusiasm for this casting has now waned. I find its stock normality a big draw despite it being a car with no relevance to the UK.

One of several found recently at B&M Bargains as part of 2023 Case D.

I imagine this is going to be pretty popular with American collectors, maybe less so here where the real vehicle is virtually unknown. The Matchbox 2018 Dodge Durango is brand new for 2022 and is quite a substantial looking casting despite its lack of an interior.

Nice glossy metallic black finish and full front and rear tampo detailing plus a tow hook too. Found recently at Tesco. Mint and boxed.

Well....I did promise myself no more Matchbox purchases until something genuinely new turns up at ASDA especially as the batches there seem to be getting older........

Promises are meant to be broken ;-p and so whilst on the hunt for Case P Hot Wheels I managed to grab yet another one of these 1962 VW Beetles. Most definitely a love at first sight casting which may be exceptionally predictable in its subject choice but its also very well executed even after its recent cost cutting modification.

It just looks so right in this plain blue colour scheme and even more so when given front and rear detailing and chrome disc wheels. Mint and boxed.

Brand new for 2023 is the Matchbox 2018 Toyota 4Runner, a rather ugly looking SUV though is I believe rather popular in the States and probably explains why they have included one in their range. A decent stock looking affair with front and rear detailing.

Part of Case B found recently at Poundland.

The wonderfully boxy and utilitarian looking Matchbox 1970 Ford Bronco returns for this years Case K and I was lucky enough to be first to a case whilst on a weeks break in Wales. This batch has been appearing over the last three weeks or so in the UK but none as of yet in my area!

Simplicity itself with a plain green finish, bright and clear front and rear tampo detailing plus delicate chrome bumpers and white coloured disc wheels.
