Not a Matchbox casting I would have expected to receive the premium Collectors treatment but surprising us is what they do best! Rather too much plastic for a premium release though obviously detailing is way above its basic mainline equivalent and it does ride on superior wheels with separate rubber tyres.

The Matchbox 1976 VW Golf GTI casting just gets better and better with every new release. Its debut orange version was ok but I was never convinced about its colour and livery which didn't resemble any Golf GTI I have ever seen. It then got its beautiful Polizei release and now this sizzling hot red number which is part of the new Germany series.

A distinctly crisply cast model with a much more appealing red body colour and believable striping. Mint and boxed.

Matchbox Porsche 918 Spyder seen in its rather vivid bright yellow recolour. On paper it shouldn't work but this hue certainly brings this casting to life.

My first diecast purchase of 2023 was certainly unexpected from a UK point of view. The Matchbox Working Rigs is yet another long established line up denied to us Brits despite their obvious appeal to both collectors and children.

The Poundstretcher discount chain has managed to source from the Far East an older batch which of course is no issue for anybody like me who aren't used to seeing them on the pegs of a UK retailer. At 6.00 each they aren't particularly cheap so was quite selective in what I grabbed, this Pierce Velocity Aerial Platform Fire Truck being an obvious choice.

A wonderfully weighty and substantial casting with a pleasing amount of metal and chrome plus rather likeable wheels.

With the exclusivity deal between Tesco and Matchbox due to end this month it will be interesting to see whether we see a lot more good stuff like this.

Very clean and crisp all white recolour of the Matchbox 2017 Honda Civic new for 2021 Batch D. No Type-R variant here, just a sensible normal five door version with pleasing levels of detailing front and rear. One of several found at Tesco. Mint and boxed.

Brand new Matchbox 2021 Fiat 500E which debuts in the Moving Parts range. Based on the latest generation 500 unlike the Hot Wheels equivalent making it more of a credible competitor to the Majorette one. It of course isn't meant to be a premium release, merely a basic mainline with an opening rear hatch and for that its very appealing at the correct price.

Really nicely finished, complete with accurate interior and front and rear detailing.

Has it really been nearly 33 years since Lamborghini launched its iconic Diablo! In fact its been out of production over 20 years so can now be definitely considered a classic!

Matchbox along with scores of other toy makers produced their own version back in the day and enough time has passed for them to bring out a rather stylish new one.

Making its debut in the semi premium Collectors series where a bit more care and attention has been given to wheels, paint finish and detailing. Its by no means a perfect replica of the Diablo, its front end looks a bit off, but still very pleasing.

2023 marks 70 years of Matchbox and Mattel will be milking the event, quite rightly in my opinion, for all its worth! Expect to see a lot more of this silver/black/orange theme this year available on several releases, mainline and special editions.

Case C's anniversary special release is this rather over bodied 1966 Dodge Charger, already a favourite casting of mine from its debut orange version though this one sadly lacks the much needed chrome which of course i've added myself.

Found recently at The Entertainer who have once again become official Matchbox stockists, something not seen since 2016!

Despite its obvious flaws there is a lot to love about the Matchbox 1969 BMW 2002 whos design and inclusion into the basic range clearly shows it has its eye firmly on the adult collector. Its first yellow release never officially made it to the U.K. so ive taken full advantage of this latest 2020 blue recolour which has turned up at Tesco in sizeable quantities. Mint and boxed.

I visited rather a lot of diecast retailers on my recent trip to France yet strangely I found absolutely no sign of the Matchbox France series mix 2 despite it first being launched back in June. However, I did find MASSES and MASSES of the first mix which meant lots of opportunity to grab several of these utterly divine Citroen DS models. One of my favourite Matchbox castings of the 2000's its an absolute joy to see it return even if its a repeat colour. Found in a JoueClub recently. Mint and boxed.

Brand spanking new Matchbox 1957 Ford Custom 300 which debuts in this years Case E. Lots of Matchbox Magic to be found here with its bog standard styling, bright chrome exterior features and riding on disc wheels.

Brand new Matchbox Moving Parts 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL. Sadly not the original Lesney era casting as most of those have long since ceased to exist but certainly inspired by it.

You won't find an all metal construction on this modern effort but being in the Moving Parts series means it does have opening front doors as per the 1979 original and does benefit from modern tampo techniques giving it intricate detailing unheard of back then!

From its basic Moving Parts release the Matchbox 1963 Chevrolet C-10 Pick-Up now goes up market to be included in the latest Superfast assortment. The casting itself has transitioned extremely well and its easy to see why its the pick of the bunch for many collectors. Chrome is now present, whether technically accurate or not, and its wheels look great and contrast nicely with its glossy metallic black paint work. The most obvious and infuriating complaint is the lack of front tampo detailing which really is unacceptable for a model designed to be a cut above the basic mainline. Its front tampo pass has been wasted on detailing its engine block which of course is only visible once its bonnet is open! Mint and boxed.

Last of the Matchbox Retro Series found recently at a Yorkshire Trading Company, I was sadly beaten to all the Subaru SVX models but found several of everything else. A sight to behold amongst the pegs filled with HTI generics and cheapo Jin Dei Le and Feisu products.

I had assumed the Matchbox 1933 Plymouth Sedan was destined to be a Police Car for all its life so was a lovely surprise to see it in civilian guise. I'm not a huge fan of 1930's era vehicles but I can definitely make exceptions for this casting. Beautiful. Part of the latest Coffee Cruisers II five vehicle set now appearing at Tesco. Latest 2021 Case A recolour of the Matchbox 1959 Dodge Coronet which are still more than plentiful in most Tesco stores. A reassuringly weighty and substantial looking casting which on this example i've added a bit of chrome to various parts. Mint and boxed.

A very familiar recolour of the strongly cast Matchbox 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS now appearing in a new nine vehicle set. Tri-spoke wheels, lots of chrome and intricate side detailing. Mint and boxed.

A matchbox camera I finished tonight (2/17/07). Built following the plans from alspix stuff. Hopefully I will be able to get a few shots out of this little camera.

One of the best Matchbox five vehicle sets in ages, the new Autobahn Express IV assortment, has landed in the UK via Tesco and now Morrisons! Five very tasty licensed castings including their 1980 Mercedes-Benz 300 Wagon which for me is simply its best release so far.

Finished in a very era appropriate metallic brown colour which suits it very nicely though as ever chrome is very much a DIY affair! I'm ashamed to say I gave in and paid 10.00 for this set at Morrisons which is outrageous considering Tesco charge a far more realistic 6.50!

Mint and boxed.

A Matchbox casting which surely needs no introduction due to appearing in three separate batches throughout 2020. Whilst out looking for more 2021 Case A I came across a few more unsold from the previous assortment. Mint and boxed.
