Despite its obvious flaws there is a lot to love about the Matchbox 1969 BMW 2002 whos design and inclusion into the basic range clearly shows it has its eye firmly on the adult collector. Its first yellow release never officially made it to the U.K. so ive taken full advantage of this latest 2020 blue recolour which has turned up at Tesco in sizeable quantities. Mint and boxed.
I visited rather a lot of diecast retailers on my recent trip to France yet strangely I found absolutely no sign of the Matchbox France series mix 2 despite it first being launched back in June. However, I did find MASSES and MASSES of the first mix which meant lots of opportunity to grab several of these utterly divine Citroen DS models. One of my favourite Matchbox castings of the 2000's its an absolute joy to see it return even if its a repeat colour. Found in a JoueClub recently. Mint and boxed.
Brand spanking new Matchbox 1957 Ford Custom 300 which debuts in this years Case E. Lots of Matchbox Magic to be found here with its bog standard styling, bright chrome exterior features and riding on disc wheels.

Brand new Matchbox Moving Parts 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL. Sadly not the original Lesney era casting as most of those have long since ceased to exist but certainly inspired by it.
You won't find an all metal construction on this modern effort but being in the Moving Parts series means it does have opening front doors as per the 1979 original and does benefit from modern tampo techniques giving it intricate detailing unheard of back then!

From its basic Moving Parts release the Matchbox 1963 Chevrolet C-10 Pick-Up now goes up market to be included in the latest Superfast assortment. The casting itself has transitioned extremely well and its easy to see why its the pick of the bunch for many collectors. Chrome is now present, whether technically accurate or not, and its wheels look great and contrast nicely with its glossy metallic black paint work. The most obvious and infuriating complaint is the lack of front tampo detailing which really is unacceptable for a model designed to be a cut above the basic mainline. Its front tampo pass has been wasted on detailing its engine block which of course is only visible once its bonnet is open! Mint and boxed.
Tesco have FINALLY updated their stock of Matchbox nine vehicle sets and although there are still too many duplicates from the previous assotment, we do at least get a new exclusive. In fact two new exclusives in the form of the 1959 Chevrolet Brookwood Wagon in silver and pale green, both wearing this Camp Arrow-Flint livery.
Despite its lack of an interior I have always been a big fan of this casting which is both unique and crisply cast. This multi pack edition sadly does without chrome but nothing a bit of Molotow hasn't cured. Very cheap at 5.50 a pack but sadly not to be duplicate bought owing to the said amount of carryovers from previous nine sets. Mint and boxed.
Last of the Matchbox Retro Series found recently at a Yorkshire Trading Company, I was sadly beaten to all the Subaru SVX models but found several of everything else. A sight to behold amongst the pegs filled with HTI generics and cheapo Jin Dei Le and Feisu products.

Latest 2021 Case A recolour of the Matchbox 1959 Dodge Coronet which are still more than plentiful in most Tesco stores. A reassuringly weighty and substantial looking casting which on this example i've added a bit of chrome to various parts. Mint and boxed.
A matchbox camera I finished tonight (2/17/07). Built following the plans from alspix stuff. Hopefully I will be able to get a few shots out of this little camera.
One of the best Matchbox five vehicle sets in ages, the new Autobahn Express IV assortment, has landed in the UK via Tesco and now Morrisons! Five very tasty licensed castings including their 1980 Mercedes-Benz 300 Wagon which for me is simply its best release so far.
Finished in a very era appropriate metallic brown colour which suits it very nicely though as ever chrome is very much a DIY affair! I'm ashamed to say I gave in and paid 10.00 for this set at Morrisons which is outrageous considering Tesco charge a far more realistic 6.50!

A Matchbox casting which surely needs no introduction due to appearing in three separate batches throughout 2020. Whilst out looking for more 2021 Case A I came across a few more unsold from the previous assortment. Mint and boxed.
Isn't it ironic that the better the modern Matchbox range becomes, despite the Mattel influenced cost cutting, the worse the distribution! The fact that U.S. collectors find it difficult to find them tells you all you need to know about Mattels least favourite child. As for the U.K, Matchbox birthplace and spiritual homeland....you can forget it! Now ASDA has pulled out of selling them there are NO retailers left to stock them at this present time!
This new 1962 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Coupe is a stunning throwback to the Lesney era when their products could be found in pretty much every retailer who stocked toys. Dont be fooled of course, this isn't the original casting which for whatever reason couldn't be used. Instead, its a very authentic replica right down to opening doors and a general overall retro appearance. Being classed as a premium MBX as per its Superfast 50th Anniversary status also means a return of lashings of chrome and some beautiful rear detailing. Such a shame I had to resort to buying a trade pack of them from the U.S. at great cost! :-(

Matchbox Ford Capri Mk 1, series no. 41, casting MB1244, with two original Superfast no. 54 versions. The darker coloured one is a casting variation with flared wheel arches, although both have the same size wheels.

* Cattle Truck & Trailer (1978, Farm Set)

Apparently a major pegwarmer in the States which is fairly surprising considering the love of pseudo classic Japanese vehicles. Maybe its considered to be just TOO normal.
Very normal is good for me and I actually rather like the Matchbox 2000 Nissan Xterra especially with its opening rear hatch. Part of the most recent selection of Moving Parts which predictably I had to source from the U.S.

Latest 2021 recolour of the Matchbox 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic and great to see it yet again wearing a real life licensed livery. Such things always add that little bit extra credibility.

Ancient Chevrolet C50/80 based Highway Maintenance truck for which Matchbox have been making for over three decades. Recently retooled though to the casual observer its hard to tell which is definitely a good thing.
Part of 2022 Case E.

The latest round of 2017 Best Of castings all hark back to a time when the Matchbox brand was in much better shape than it is now! Better things are planned for 2018 but until then you'll find all the better features of Matchbox in this premium series which annoyingly haven't made their way over here to ASDA. There is a lot to like about this mid 2000's Dodge Magnum, a pretty accurate looking casting with plenty of tampo treatment, a very vivid Police livery and much much better looking wheels than previous Best Of ranges. Bought recently from Modelmatic. Mint and boxed.
Possibly one of the most eagerly awaited Matchbox casting this year is nothing more than a Taxi! Not any old Taxi of course, this is the LEVC TX all electric vehicle built in Coventry and continues the legacy of the original Austin FX via LTI etc....Very much a Hackney Cab for the 21st century its styling is an acceptable pastiche of whats gone before but with a modern twist too.
Apart from its disappointing lack of interior and naturally no opening rear doors, its an accurate representation and one which will hopefully be a frequent visitor to my collection ;-p

Remarks/comments: I found this brand new in it's package on the pegs at Wal-Mart. A 13 year old Matchbox, brand new for a 1.49!
This is by far, the oldest Matchbox I have found new in store.
It is very rare to find old Matchbox and Hot Wheels on the pegs.
I remember when I walked into a dollar store and found a bin full of early 00's Hot Wheels. This was pre cov-19. That was a surprise but not much of it was to my interest as at that time, a lot of fantasy casting were the thing.
Brand new casting for 2021 Case C and one which has already proven popular and proving yet again Matchbox aren't afraid to do things differently. The 1979 Chevrolet Nova is hardly left field but its a vehicle virtually unknown outside of America. Mint and boxed.
Queuing outside a Tesco supermarket was certainly worth it when I found a fresh case of Batch B Matchbox. Even after all these months this assortment is the exception and not the norm in most of their stores so was definitely a lucky find. This new 1941 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe really is stunning and with MBX currently on a "3 for 2" offer it was a bargain. Mint and boxed.
A rather late follow on recolour of the weird, wonderful and extremely obscure 1949 Kurtis Sport Car by Matchbox. A very worthy follow I might add which continues with the glossy metallic theme and of course they dare not delete the chromed front and side panels which were a feature of the real Kurtis.
Part of a decent 2023 Case D haul at B&M Bargains.

I rarely have any luck in finding rare and juicy diecasts from places like charity shops or flea markets. What I wasn't expecting was to be given a small bag of old Matchbox models which to me are in almost perfect condition and which were heading for the skip! I would have been delighted if they had only dated from the last few years or few decades but was gobsmacked when I discovered they were early Superfast era ones!
Apart from the part loss of its front sticker and a few paint chips this VW 1500 Saloon looks almost as fresh as the day it left the factory! It predates my childhood by a number of years so to get one now is truly amazing. Good old fashioned Lesney quality ensures a VERY high metal content which gives it that old fashioned weighty feeling plus of course its working suspension. The good old days really were the good old days where Matchbox is concerned! :-)
Yet more Matchbox Moving Parts releases for 2023 and we are still in January! Clearly the MBX Team have really gotten behind this range of "basic +" castings which basically means mainline quality and detailing with the added bonus of opening features. A bit like Majorette but without the working suspensions ;-p
Theres already a lot of love for their 1980 Porsche 911 Turbo and I suspect there will be even more with this gleaming metallic brown recolour. Simple and elegant with some particularly nice rear tampo detailing. The ill matched coloured doors we will have to gloss over sadly as it seems to be a permanent feature on most castings subject to separate body parts.
