Hot Wheels have been making an unlicensed and heavily customised DIVCO milk van for years but finally Matchbox get to do a proper one for its Moving Parts range. Insanely cute looking and rather unbelievable that the real vehicles were being made well into the 1980's! As this is still classed as a basic it sadly does without chrome or front detailing which is a shame but does have an opening rear cargo door. Sourced from the U.S. as there is no way Tesco would have the sense to stock this series. Mint and boxed.

Matchbox 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible now already on its third release despite only being introduced as a casting in 2021.

Seen here in its latest 2023 Case G recolour, one of many found recently at Action stores in France.

With Tesco so far behind with 2020 Matchbox I wisely ordered and received Case C in Power Grabs guise from the U.S. some weeks back. I never thought for one minute this assortment would come to the U.K. but happily i've been proved completely wrong. One of my nearest stores had literally just put out a full case that morning and so.....well I think you can guess the rest! ;-p

Because international cases have a 72 count content rather than 24 there were SIX of these gorgeous little 1976 Honda Civics contained within instead of just the single one I got from the States. That meant plenty of scope for a bit of Molotow action which although not entirely accurate does rid it of that nasty cheapo unpainted plastic!

Despite niggling concerns about general availability, particularly here in the UK, and relentless cost cutting, this brand new 1975 Opel Kadett GT/E highlights all the good that is happening at Matchbox. Hardly any generics, the ones we do see are usually believable in design, and plenty of desirable modern and classic castings.

Just five or so years ago it would have been unimaginable we would see an offbeat choice such as this but delighting collectors is now thankfully pretty much the norm at this iconic diecast brand. This is no adult collectible, its priced and distributed to be a cheap toy car yet it is indeed adults who will be clambering for this new casting and its not difficult to see why.

Very crisply cast with lots of intricate detailing side and rear coupled with a very era appropriate two tone colour scheme makes this a standout in 2022 Case C. Mint and boxed.

Matchbox 1951 Hudson Hornet seen in its rather charming debut release from a few years back and now returning as a recycled recolour for the latest MBX Highway II five vehicle set. Found recently at Tesco. Mint and boxed.

Impressive new Collectors Series 1964 Chevrolet C10 Longbed casting which debuts in this beaten up rusty effect. Base model white bumpers i'm assuming are accurate whilst the rest of the casting is well executed and nicely detailed. Mint and boxed.

For me definitely the standout casting in this particular mix of the Matchbox Retro Series and also one of the few which isn't a recycled recolour. Their 1975 Cadillac Eldorado is still considered a fairly new casting and is as crisp and clean as they come, beautifully executed with some seriously nice cast in detailing to the front grille and headlights.

Found recently at a Yorkshire Trading Company branch.

A very worthy follow up release of the Matchbox 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible swapping its previous sombre but classy black for this somewhat much brighter yellow. Very well sculptured for its size and budget price point with all the right ingredients of plenty of chrome, attractive wheels and decent detailing.

One of a few found recently in various Action stores in France who sell fresh batches for half the price of the UK!

Remarks/comments:

I happily snapped up all the red Matchbox 1957 Ford Custom 300's I could find when in France and now they've begun to appear at B&M Bargains who knows what will happen......

Great to see 2023 Case G appear in the UK after six months of earlier cases and quite the strong mix it is too with virtually all castings licensed.

Post war civilian aimed Willys Jeepster as modelled by Matchbox and oozing charm.

Not a new release, this turquoise version was released back in 2021 for that years Case E but are now beginning to appear in various Poundland stores in long cards suggesting liquidated stock from abroad.

Matchbox 1957 Ford Custom 300, a perennial favourite of mine from 2022 Case E which is handy as thats as far as Tesco have gotten whereas new UK MBX retailers have jumped straight into 2023 Case B!

When a relative tells you that they have a bag of old dinky cars you can have, they are all heavily playworn and that if you don't like them you can always throw them away, naturally I wasn't going to say no. Well all I can say is that their definition of playworn and what constitutes as being worthy of been thrown away is most certainly different to mine! :-0

I nearly fainted when I found this in the bottom of the bag amongst other early Superfast Matchbox models and all in the same excellent condition! I never dreamed I would ever find this Cortina MK2 two door saloon in this condition for free so to say i'm overjoyed is an understatement!

Its fair to say they really don't make Matchbox cars like they used to judging by this gorgeous and oh so crisp looking early 1970's example. A beautifully weighty all metal construction, opening doors, working suspension, and intricately cast body details such as lights, badging and grille illustrate why this era of Matchbox is still looked back on with such fondness.

Vintage Stuff inspired by 50´s and 60´s classic matchbox illustrations.

A casting we are finally seeing its potential after its slightly disappointing orange debut release. This 2021 Case A edition looks remarkably cool and clean in its German themed Police livery and is definitely Matchbox at its best, well best for its modern one Dollar era! Mint and boxed.

Matchbox - Fire Trucks

* Ford Galaxie Fire Chief Car (1966)

* Foamite Crash Tender (1965)

* Fire Pump Truck (1966)

* Merryweather Marquis Series III Fire Truck (1959)

* Husky - Simon Snorkel Fire Engine (1970)

Latest recolour of the Matchbox 1957 Ford Custom 300, both versions so far being rather addictive as can be seen by the amounts I now have in my collection. Supremely crisp in its execution its an absolute gem and almost a miracle it can be offered at such a low price. This costing the equivalent of just 1.00 when bought from French Action stores.

Technically just a Custom rather than a 300 but Ford must have stipulated that title when granting approval to Matchbox so I don't really know the story behind it.

An extremely well thought out casting which is literally a joy to behold once in hand. Thankfully the days of classic era castings being lumbered with grey plastic rather than chrome seems to be over judging by the shiny stuff on show here.

Part of 2023 Case G found recently at a French Action.

Fabulous new Moving Parts recolour of the Matchbox 1965 VW Type 3 Fastback with a gleaming metallic purple finish harking back to the Lesney original. Matchbox must have found a few Dollars hiding down inside its sofa as shock horror it actually gets factory fitted chrome which really REALLY finishes it off beautifully. Mint and boxed.

Even with its hugely hyped launch I never expected the surprisingly expensive all new Defender to be as successful as its become. No doubt we are going to see a lot of 1/64 replicas and happy to see Matchbox are included on that list. They have initially chosen to model the 90 body type giving it a truncated chunky appearance.

Despite appearances that dark glazing is hiding an interior which hopefully will be more visible on subsequent releases. Cost cutting ensures a one piece piece of plastic for its upper half and lots of unpainted grey plastic but I for one still like this casting and again i'm sure it will prove popular with collectors. Latest 2022 Case E recolour of the Matchbox 1970 Ford Capri and surely its best yet with its gleaming metallic blue finish and tampo detailing to both front and sides, even down to its trademark side grilles.

2023 recolour of the charming retro inspired Matchbox MBX Fire Dasher which despite its styling is actually purely generic. Ironic then that it now wears the real life livery of the San Luis Obispo Fire Department. A hefty quota of ugly grey plastic which if I find any more will get the Molotow chrome treatment.

Not the most exciting of castings to debut in the latest mix of Matchbox Moving Parts but surely isn't that their forte anyway? Making totally stock looking every day vehicles from around the World encompassing modern, neo and full fledged classics are what the brand is all about and thus I actually rather like this new 1991 Mitsubishi Pajero, or Shogun as we Brits used to call them.

Totally ordinary in appearance with its two tone gunmetal grey and beige, front and rear tampo detailing and opening front doors.

Many of but in all honesty probably the last example of this debut release of the Matchbox 1962 Plymouth Savoy I intend on picking up from Tesco. Hopefully it will get a recolour in the very near future. Mint and boxed.
