The Beatles covered Carl Perkins' "Matchbox" in 1964, with Ringo Starr on lead vocals. It was released on the ‘Long Tall Sally’ EP in the UK and ‘Something New’ in the US.

Pictured here is my entry for this week's Macro Monday topic -- B/W Center Square. This Matchbox car and I go way back, as this was one of my favorite toy cars back when I was a kid. I actually had saved a number of these old cars, and passed them along to my son -- who enjoyed playing with them for a time as well.
My son eventually grew out of the toy car stage (as kids do), and this old lime green Ford matchbox car went back in the box once again... Having now survived two generations, but still in excellent condition.
Who would've guessed that macro photography would've reunited me with my old die-cast metal friend one more time. It was a lot of fun photographing this car, which brought back some fond memories -- not only of my childhood, but my son's as well.
It'll go back in the box now, and stay there a while more... Who knows what new future adventures or memories will be in store for it... Time will tell, but either way I'll look forward to our next meeting somewhere down the road. ;)
Hope everyone had a great weekend... HMM to all!

"Macro Monday - Matchbox Macro" is a non-HDR image that was processed using a combination of ACR, Photoshop, and Topaz Labs plugins (Adjust, BW Effects, AI Clear, Denoise, Glow, Impression and Texture Effects).
For most Matchbox collectors this 1940 Dodge V-Series Truck is a new casting as it only briefly appeared for the US only Dodge series a few years ago and then disappeared. It finally gets its basic mainline debut in this years Case K assortment and is already proving popular.
A crisply cast metal body sits atop a plastic base which includes the load bed, running boards and front headlights and is a fair compromise for the low price point its expected to be sold at in various countries. Tampo detailing is limited to the front only but overall its a casting worth waiting for.
Found recently at The Entertainer.

My old college roommate this week gave me a box of Matchbox cars that he had when he was a kid. This Lotus F1 car and a couple of others like it were in the mix.
this is the matchbox for Cecilia - she likes tags so i made her a tag book that she can just look at or use as tags for collages. With the books caome seuins, beads, buttons and a bit of fairy dust and sparkle

Matchbox King Size K-3 - Massey Ferguson Tractor and Farm Trailer - 1970
It still has some mud on it from its last time out. The trailer hitch was missing but it was fairly easy to make a reasonable facsimile from a wire paper clip.
The Matchbox 1960 Chevrolet El Camino is definitely modern Matchbox at its very best even if the subject matter isn't particularly relevant to many collectors outside of the U.S. Delicately crisp in execution and detailing and now gets this beautiful new recolour for 2023.
One of several found recently in a French Action store.

First seen last year in silver as part of the American Convertibles set which didn't officially come to the UK the Matchbox 1963 Chevrolet Corvette finally hits the basic mainline. Debuting in this years Case J which has yet to appear here it does thankfully carry forward into K which has begun to show up in various UK retailers such as The Entertainer where I found this example.
A distinct lack of chrome reminds you of its toy car status though not enough to take off the overall shine of this casting which manages to remain factory stock in appearance with limited amounts of detailing front and rear.

Matchbox - BP Trucks
Dodge Wreck Truck (1965), Petrol Tanker (1965), Leyland Tanker Tanker (1968), Alvis Slalwart (1966), Routemaster Bus "BP visco-static BP" (1967), and Routemaster Bus "BP LONGLIFE BP" (1966)
Matchbox plastic 'Sales & Service Station' with Esso branding and AA and RAC accreditation. I've had this since it was new, so the damage to the clock and the rear edge of the upper floor are down to me!
Show here with various Matchbox diecast vehicles. All except the Esso tow truck, which is much too late really, are from my unboxed selection as they were handy as props.
The same garage was later issued in white and green as a BP station.
I liked the idea of decorating matchboxes with polymer clay, so I made more pieces, this time with different patterns.
The background too, of course.

This veteran Landy is at home here in the wilds of the countryside. Looking a bit worse for wear but still working hard. Carrying all one needs for a long overland haul to somewhere amazing.
Matchbox built their models to last and this one is over 50 years old. Looks like it has had a great life providing enjoyment to kids for many years. Now retired from being played with and living out its remaining years in a collection.
Matchbox covered in felt and fabric with hand embroidery around the edges. Filled with colourful buttons!
I would of course have loved Matchbox to include two of their amazing 1984 Rover SD1 Vitesse in the latest case of Moving Parts but the duplicates are the Maserati GranTurismo and this 1963 Ford Thunderbird.
Admittedly this casting is a stand out and I imagine it would be popular with collectors Worldwide who appreciate its old school glamour which Matchbox have replicated rather well. The casting itself is POSSIBLY a touch too short in length but clearly a lot of effort has gone into its detailing and chrome content.

1:6 scale science classroom
I have a bunch of other stuff to use for a science classroom diorama, but this was a fairly quick set up to show Skipper and her friends in their new outfits. I did just make the walls today from a Playmobile toy box my son got for Christmas. This teacher needs an Interactive White Board in addition to her chalkboard. She has been requesting one for about 5 years, but is still waiting! (Haha...I finally got one last year).
Teacher's desk: vintage, looks very similar to the vintage Mattel Modern wooden stuff. Sold as a Horseman desk, but I've never seen anything like it.
Chalkboard: made from card stock, white gel pen
Desks: Mattel, 1990s. I have about 6 more somewhere.
Walls and floor: scrapbook paper
Body model: my son's, from Amazon
Cage: my son's Matchbox toy, eraser rat
Blue books, blue notebooks, IPads, flag on chalkboard, from new Barbie school accessory set (Walmart). I bought 3.
Cabinet and white table: Mattel repainted
Starfish - real
Microscope: Barbie curvy scientist
Laptop and goggles: Barbie 2018 Lab set
Red pencil box, coffee, binders in cabinet, lotion magnifying lens: Rement
Composition books: Barbie and 1:12 dollhouse
Books and plants in cabinet: made by me
Lab coat: Barbie scientist
Plants, terrarium, pencils, books in cabinet: made by me

Remarks/comments:
With their "2 for 3.00" offer on Matchbox Poundland are currently by far the cheapest UK retailer for new Matchbox here in the UK. That should be good news for collectors like me with plenty of their stores in my area and yet frustratingly in the last month or so all but one have stopped selling the brand despite other branches getting in the brand new Case K assortment!
My nearest town centre Poundland has a few Case D remnants sticking to the pegs like glue and thus felt compelled to rescue this 1968 Chevrolet C10. A brilliantly executed low cost diecast with its super square and crisply cast body, era appropriate white bumpers and gleaming metallic gold paint finish. Theres no "cast-in" detailing to the front end, that now comes entirely via a tampo machine to keep costs down but still looks very effective.
