Matchbox 1/72 scale Percival Provost T.1 in the markings of No.1 Flying Training School RAF in September 1959. Decals from Modeldecal set No.38.

Reminding me massively of a Vauxhall Victor though I know theres no connection between them other than a few styling cues.

Definitely one of my favourite new castings introduced for this years E Case and one I can't stop picking up every time I see them at Tesco.

After several naff mainline releases the achingly crisply cast Matchbox 1963 Cadillac Ambulance returns to glory via the new Cadillac series. Yes the big sunroof is still there and probably always will be but just look at all that gorgeous chrome! Not only that but its livery is tasteful and believable. Mint and boxed.

Matchbox 1980 AMC Eagle, yet another one picked up from B&M Bargains recently as part of the latest 2023 Case D.

The Matchbox 2014 Nissan NV Van has never really been too popular with collectors. Strange proportions, no interior and scant detailing has hardly done itself any favours! Now throw in red coloured glazing which now makes it look even more cheapo and you'll see grown men weep in the toy aisles! ;-p

Ironically I rather like its new NISSAN themed livery. Part of the latest 2021 Case C. Mint and boxed.

The super charming Matchbox 1940 Dodge V-Series Truck actually first appeared back in 2022 for the U.S. only Dodge set so it seems rather odd that its taken three more years for it to reappear for the basic mainline range. Was it worth the wait?

You betcha, its not a vehicle which holds much relevance to any collector outside of the North American market and yet its appeal is already proving rather broad. A sensible mix of metal and plastic which do actually blend together rather harmoniously for a budget toy car especially when given decent levels of tampo detailing and it riding on chrome disc wheels.

After returning to Spain after a hiatus of 18 months thanks largely to the Covid pandemic it was heartening to notice the general availability of Matchbox which I hadn't really noticed before.

Unfortunately my very latest visit was totally different, I hardly saw any apart from a small Carrefour which had just THREE MBX singles hanging on the pegs, amazingly all three were this sought after 2022 Case E recolour!

And yes, all three did "fall" into my basket ;-p

From August 2019 to January 2023 Tesco were the only official retailer in the UK allowed to sell Matchbox. A rather odd decision on Mattels part which has stiffled the brand during this period and any UK collector not wishing to source their stuff from abroad were subject to the whims of whatever they bothered stocking.

For me I have rarely any need to use them anymore, the price of a single has doubled in 12 months and after being stuck on 2022 Case E for a long period they are now only just getting in 2023 batches and even then they are still behind other retailers such as The Entertainer and B&M Bargains.

At 2.00 each I couldn't even be bothered to rummage through a nearly full case at my local branch, for old times sake I took this AMC Eagle and a Chow Mobile II and that was it. Going forward I can only see Tesco being useful for finding new five vehicle sets.

I made this for the Matchbox Book swap for FeatheredFriend. This was my first attempt at making a book and I really had a lot of fun with it, I absolutely love books as well as miniatures.

The famous Matchbox Coffee Cruisers five vehicle set is back for its fourth assortment which pleases with its 100% licensed content. It also sees the return of the 1947 Chevrolet AD 3100 in a different colour but using the same Coffee Cruisers livery as before. A pretty decent casting of this classic Chevy pick-up which thankfully goes without dull grey plastic!

Remarks/comments: I don't have many Matchbox cars with these early style wheels.

Its 2019 and Mattel have finally persuaded the American giants of Wal-Mart and Target that they can no longer sell Matchbox at one Dollar each. Now priced at 1.50 that extra profit sees the triumphant return of chrome plastic and full metal bodies.......and then I woke up sadly!

Unpainted grey plastic has now almost completely dominated the MBX line up though annoyingly its corporate brother Hot Wheels has remained largely unaffected. With this in mind I finally bought myself a Molotow liquid silver pen and have begun to re-chrome some Batch M castings which badly need it. Being a novice and not too steady with my hands the results arnt flawless especially when focused on by camera but I can honestly say that when the model is in hand you really dont see them, just wonderful gleaming chrome!

There was no more deserving casting from Case M for the chrome treatment than this 1951 Hudson Hornet which looks totally incomplete with its unpainted grey. All its visible grey has had the Molotow treatment along with its headlights and roof lights. The pen came from Ebay and this of course ASDA. Mint and boxed.

In memory of Jack Odell, the creator of Matchbox toy cars.

I am understandably ecstatic that after being behind for so long ASDA have reset their first case of Matchbox for 2018 at D meaning we are only one batch behind the U.S. The downside of course is that we have missed B and C and more tellingly so far I have only found this new batch in just ONE of the many of their stores I visit. This suggests they still arn't managing their exclusive deal with Matchbox very well annoying collectors down the land and charging a hefty premium too!

The one store I did visit looked as though they had literally just emptied out a full 72 count case which meant I came away with a few of these gorgeous blue 1962 VW Beetles. Retooled for 2018 the only noticeable difference is the one piece metal roof which is now cast into the body, the chrome disc wheels and delicate tampo detailing remain. Mint and boxed.

The ubiquitous Ford C-Series with its grimacing front end styling has been modelled in this scale for decades, I've got a few by Yatming and dozens of the ones originally made by Zylmex and which amazingly continue in production via Motormax who inherited the molds back in the mid 1990's.

Well its now the turn of Matchbox to do its stuff with their brand new 1965 C900 casting.

Grey plastic abounds as you'd probably expect but its gorgeous classic SHELL livery and coordinating red wheels more than makes up for that. Part of the the very latest Case B which I accidentally came across today and nearly fainted in the toy aisle of my local Tesco! Mint and boxed.

Part of the new Matchbox Best Of France series, yes you read that correctly, but who is ever going to complain at seeing this VW Golf GTI casting getting a new release. Interestingly Matchbox have now added the VR6 title to the packaging even though thats never been used on the model itself. Mint and boxed.

Remarks/comments:

Predictably one of my favourite models from the brand new Rescue EMT themed five vehicle set despite many collectors judging it to be an entirely inappropriate choice. Although I agree with that sentiment its also wise to remind people that these are sold as childrens toys first where such authenticities aren't so important!

According to the packaging this is the sporty RS2600 variant though of course no such badging adorns the casting anywhere, its merely a "1970 Ford Capri". A lack of any front and rear tampo detailing is usually a source of annoyance for me but strangely on this occasion it actually keeps the casting looking extremely clean and crisp.

Found recently at Morrisons.

Brand new Matchbox 1963 Ford F-100 designed to be used in the ever expanding Moving Parts series. Its sheer ordinariness is its selling point, totally stock and unadorned without any logos or graphics to interrupt its smooth creamy bodywork.

Plenty of chrome to be found here as well as delicious rear tampo detailing, chrome disc wheels and an opening bonnet/hood which reveals a surprisingly well detailed engine block.

Sourced from a UK online model shop called BTL Miniatures who are able to sell them much cheaper than my previous Netherlands based supplier.
