My new crumpler bag was delivered today (I love that Canada Post now delivers on Sundays!) and for some reason it included a box of Crumpler-branded mini-matches.

Found this in my father's junk drawer. He has kept this for over 30 years now. He said he actually used it on the ladies. I think it's hilarious. (See my other pics to see what's written on the front)

A bit of Tony Randall here.

Last load from the Man U Crystal Palace match, 16 in all.

I reckon sitting in one of these boxes must remove a load of the "atmosphere" of a match.

Only three people will understand the significance of this picture.

Maneva shooting 2010 American Legion Regional Postal Match.

A match igniting and burning. The match was held in place with a clamp, surrounded by several fluorescent and 85w desk lamps and shot against a black felt background. I used a butane candle lighter (with a very long flame) for igniting the match while keeping the lighter out of frame.

These matches have gone faster then any other matches, well apart from the other boxes on Concord!

Substitute professional Qaiser Abbas prepares to receive at Seedhill a Todmorden delivery during a four-wicket Lancashire League victory for Nelson. Pakistani Abbas, the professional at Bolton League Westhoughton, replaced South African Reeza Hendricks, who has returned home early, and struck an unbeaten 88.

Eleventh versus thirteenth seems an odd choice of fixture at this stage of the season but, with the Lancashire League splitting into two divisions of 12 next year, and allocation determined by 2018's finishing positions, it was a crucial encounter. Abbas figured in three important partnerships and, with the scores tied, clinched the win by clubbing the only six of a patient innings. Earlier, young Matthew Heap took a career-best 5-66 as Todmorden relied on a gutsy last-wicket stand worth 42 between Matthew Collins (21) and Hamza Ali (12 not out) to post a defendable total. Derbyshire's Daryn Smit, the South African former Ramsbottom professional, acted as the visitors' substitute professional, deputising for Chris Schofield, who had a finger injury. Smit, capable of big scores, could make only 39, a somewhat disappointing return.

Match statistics:

Admission: £4. Programme: none. Attendance: 77. Todmorden won the toss and elected to bat. Todmorden 185 off 46.1 overs (Daryn Smit 39, Andrew Sutcliffe 29, Kai Abbas 26, Matthew Collins 21, Matthew Heap 5-66, Caleb Grant 2-36) 2pts lost by four wickets to Nelson 191-6 off 49.1 overs (Qaiser Abbas 88 not out, David Crotty 29, Elliot Bradley 25, Russell Bradley 21, Matthew Collins 3-52) 12pts. Umpires: David Robinson and Sohaib Khan.

The roots of Nelson Cricket Club date from 1861 when the Nelson-in-Marsden and Phoenix clubs merged. Nelson have played at Seedhill since 1878, when the present club was established. Nelson have engaged professionals since 1879. Numerous internationals have represented the club. They include Learie Constantine (West Indies), Kapil Dev (India), Roger Harper (West Indies), Neil Hawke (Australia), Collis King (West Indies), Craig McMillan (New Zealand), Sarfraz Nawaz (Pakistan), Graham Roope (England), Steve Waugh (Australia) and Barry Wood (England). Nelson were founder members of the Lancashire League in 1892, and hold the record - 21 - for championship triumphs. They have been runners-up on 16 occasions. Nelson have lifted the league's Worsley Cup nine times.

03/05/12 Cardiff v West Ham, Championship, Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff, Wales

This week for Take A Class With Dave & Dave, one of our assignments is to include some sort of light source in our photographs.

Light in the frame. The Kodak guides from the 70’s will tell you to put the sun behind the photographer, shining on the subjects face. This invariably results in pictures where the subjects are squinting into a bright vacation sun. Your challenge is to present an image where a light source is in the frame. The light in your image does not need to be the sole source. Realize having a light in your image may freak your exposure meter out. Have an idea of the image you’re after, then execute it. Don’t be satisfied until you achieve your vision.

I'm not 100% sure what I am going to do with this as of yet, but last night I had a little fun with rubbing alcohol and matches (bwah ha ha). I've never really tried to capture flame on film before, so most of these are just studies (with a little bit of level adjustments and hue and saturation bumps - but no significan't editing). Just a bit of practice and fun with fire.
