A Picture A Day "Mask"
Hi all, I hope you all had a good weekend and the dads had a good fathers day. Today'sword is mask and as I am trying to draw as much live as I can, I drew the only type of mask I have around. So dust mask it is. You might have a nice fancy mask that you can draw, paint, or even write about. Remember above all, to have fun with it.
Teens attended a workshop that took on a fascinating Egyptian theme with Cobra shapes, pyramid masks, and other Egyptian designs.
With appropriate social distancing and masks, its time to get out and enjoy the spring. One of our favorite spring time walks is through the gardens at Red Wing Park.
Red Wing Park, a 97-acre park located off of General Booth Blvd, is known for it's beautiful gardens and annual Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Red Wing Park property was acquired by the county in 1879 and was formerly known as the "Old City Poor Farm." It was developed into a park by the City in 1966 and is now home to many gardens, including the Reba S. McClanan Fragrance Garden, established through the joint efforts of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation and the Council of Garden Clubs of Virginia Beach, and the Miyazaki Japanese Garden.

Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy. The masks are typically worn during the Carnevale (Carnival of Venice), but have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status. The mask would permit the wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was thus useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters.
Venetian masks are characterised by their ornate design, featuring bright colours such as gold or silver and the use of complex decorations in the baroque style. Many designs of Venetian masks stem from Commedia dell'arte. They can be full-face masks (e.g. the bauta) or eye masks (e.g. the Columbina).

An open face means codes and inhibitions. A masked one defies both affording the wearer some freedom of action through anonimity. That is why in war or in a festivity, the wearer of one becomes much bolder than those without. The mask, be it psychological or polymers, draws out the pirate in us.
And soap! I love soap when it absorbs the crusty carapace of paint, turning it into slimy liquid that drips with dirty beads of paint down the drain.

A Gas Mask made for a contest over on Flickr. It uses the plates attached to a net technique draped over a dome to give it a more defined curved shape.
