A woman carries flowers with a face mask on.
As Hong Kong Coronavirus/COVID-19 surpasses fifty cases in the city so most people don a face mask to protect themselves from the virus. Although there is some debate over the effectiveness of the masks to protect against infection and a citywide shortage of masks still the face covering has become started attire for most people in the city.

This is one of those moments where you catch something out of your eye and quickly snap it. I love the detail in things like this at disney and am always on the lookout.

The design for this mask came to me during a horribly boring, offsite company meeting.
The glass is blue opaque with a clear irizidized glass on top. Unfortunately, a lot of the iridescence disappeared during the full fuse. I used blue iridized glass for the tears and striker red for cheeks and lips. Rausche paint and stringers gave me the eyebrow and eyelashes. Most of the piece was full fused. The eye, lips, and nose were tack fused. The slump gives it the curved shape.
And no, I can't explain why there's only one eye. That's just the way it is.
Found a creepy paper mache mask at Michaels' craft store...had to get a few pics. It was a good excuse to play with low level lighting, and be retarded.
One Canon 580ex2 at its lowest power, just left of the mask.
Mask-making. This time I'll do a bit of photo documentation. This is the leather, having been cut out and soaked in hot water for about 5-10 minutes or so. It is sitting on a paper mache mask ( covered in plastic so it doesn't get wet ). The white 'mask' is being used as a template for the face form, eyes, bridge of nose, etc.
The mask of Iron Man - part of the Marvel Comics display at the 'Sci-Fi at the Movies' exhibition at Spaceport Star Wars Weekend in Wallasey, UK 2008
one of the earlier mask demos (have since become an almost weekly gathering to spread covid).
as with many of these things there were several overlapping protests taking place. some sensible. some on the outer reaches.
as the SWP were not in evidence this does not count as a proper demo.
it also shows that i am not, and probably will never be, a street photographer.
Gentlemonster mustachioed masks! missmonster.bigcartel.com/ Exhibited at a recent show, now available to you...
These masks are a VERY limited edition and were on exhibit at the Ladies and Gentlemonsters show at Revolution Gallery in Chicago.
They are made from cast plastic and are hand painted. The creepy black eyes are see through and this mask is wearable! Very lightweight, too. The facial hair is made from Hollywood quality National Fiber Technology fur.
A fantastic addition to a gentleman steampunk costume...would look amazing with a top hat and suit! Or just an art piece for the wall.
These masks are NOT safety rated. So not use these for a LARP where you might get hit in the face. They are durable but could break if handled roughly or crushed. Keep them out of hot cars, they WILL collapse in intense heat.
This maks is about 1870, and depics a mythic ancestor. the soft curves andnear realismof the face are typical of a style of Nuu-chah-nulth art that flourished about 1870
Experimentation with a photograph in Photoshop.
Sometimes I just wanna break out of the realism mode and do something kinda different. This is the result today.
Murad pomegranate exfoliating mask
What is it?
A revitalizing and balancing mask for combination skin types.
What is it used for?
This antioxidant-rich mask uses ginkgo biloba and pomegranate extracts to neutralize age-accelerating free radicals while fruit enzymes and AHAs thoroughly exfoliate the entire complexion. These actions help to heal and prevent damage while releasing trapped impurities, leading to a clearer and healthier appearance. Finally, sodium PCA hydrates and softens the skin for a smooth, conditioned and supple texture, as well as a radiant tone.
We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.
Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask.
We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
We wear the mask!
Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872 -1906)
Police have fired thousands and thousands of tear gas canisters. It's become critical to have a mask laying around.
