This mask was purchased in New Orleans in the spring of 2009. It was made by the same artist who makes masks for Cirque de Soleil, which is really, really awesome
This mask was made specially for me for the stereotactic radiation therapy I received last week for my two brain tomours. All went well, I have no complaints at all, and in a few week's we will know if the radiation did its job.
I'm planning to make a series of felt mask with this mask as basis.
Wow. What a mask. Incredible colors. Think it was always this colorful, traditionally? Somehow I doubt it. But, then, you never know. Especially since they're an Amazonian tribe, they probably had plenty of access to colorful birds and stuff.
Masking concept for a typeface. In this concept, letter forms are created by masking out their exterior, as if in anticipation of paint or ink.
Because the "information" of these letters is in the negative space, an intriguing oscillation of the figure to ground relationship occurs.

Wooden mask, abandoned and exposed to all elements, for a long time. You can see the mud and sand thrown by rain splatters from the street.

Feathers are a pain in the ass but also sort of fun in a way. You sort of zone out on the repetitiveness...

I bought a beautiful Orchid plant for my mom for St. Patrick's day and looking closer, upside down, it kind of looks like a mask.
We bought passes for Grouse Mountain which give us access all year round to the mountian. There is a exhibit of native art which is where this mask is located

THAT’S WHY
I keep a gilded bejeweled crackalure Venetian mask on my bed post, I tell him. Of course, I also keep comedy/tragedy masks above my bed, the most appropriate post for them. My love life has been a Greek tragedy, and I’m always the one who dies in the end. But I can only laugh!
This mask, representing a human face or possibly the Sun, is a powerful example of Nuxalk carving. Nuxalk face masksare usually with exaggerated features.
