Masks in ancient Mexico came in all shapes and sizes and ranged from those that clearly depict human faces to those that appear bizarre and/or supernatural. These masks, stylistically associated with the site of Tlatilco in the Basin of Mexico, show the characteristic bulging eyesockets and exaggeratedly prominent eyebrows. While the eyes and mouths are pierced, the masks are too small to have covered the entire face. Paired holes at the temples and below the ears suggest that they could have been tied on the lower face or onto a bundle or sculpture, thereby representing a state of transformation.

The water becomes clearer when it runs down her face, diluting tiny scabs of pigment. Her skin emerges like a landscape of flesh from underneath a snow-crust of April thaw.

The Bamileke masks on display was made to the honor king (Fon) and or important chiefs. The piece is regarded as an object of power and is displayed during important rituals and ceremonies, to commemorate and celebrate the royal ancestors of the present Fon. The Colorful beads are the most important part of this mask and the abstract patterns are symbols of great wisdom. The cowry shells depict wealth. The power of the Fon also ensures the protection of his people and guarantees the fertility of the fields and the fecundity of the women.
In this series of photographs I looked at and old world war II gas mask from 1939, these have been edited in photoshop adding a black and white layer and then reducing it opacity to 70% to give the colours a faded look.

I'm doing a bit of a dump here on Flickr with past travel photos that I never got around to putting up. I'm lucky enough to get to travel with my school's March Break trip. This photo is from the 2013 trip to Italy (Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Rome).
These trips are amazing, but they are not ideal for photography. I'm always rushed, and the lighting seldom seems to be in my favour. So, I know there are many better photos of all these locations, but I still wanted to share some of my favourites.
