8oz chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. Not pictured was the $2.50 pint of blue moon beer. I had this at the Busted Nut Bar and Grill in Hastings Minnesota.

For Thanksgiving we made Straight-Up-Thanksgiving Burgers, topped with Hickory Smoked Tofurky slices and gravy and served on toasted onion rolls. On the side: extra garlic & chive mashed potatoes and stuffing (my own recipes), as well as Hunan-Style Baked Sweet Potato French Fries with Chili Sauce (recipe via the upcoming The Chinese Vegan Kitchen, which I'm in the process of reviewing).

I accidentally ate so much that I had to swap my pants for a bathrobe. My only regret? I didn't have any room left for the homemade soy chai ice cream or So Delicious Nog!

Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, stuffing (bacon, biscuits, mushrooms, celery), brussels sprouts, and gravy. Oh, and a crescent roll. Mmmmm

A terribly popular restaurant that draws the tourists with pies that won awards in the late 1990s, which unfortunately, haven't been kept up to date.

We tried an Aussie Meat Pie, Burgundy Pie, Guinness Pie, all rather average, and the mashed potatoes were reconstituted! As gummy and gooey as the mashed potatoes were, I didn't mind them after the first few mouthfuls :P

At least the Apple and Rhubarb Crumble was good, especially with lashings of the thick double cream!

It's for Grandma - I couldn't resist. She needs that love.

I took this hearty ground beef and potato part of traditional British pub fare and tweaked it just slightly to make it vegetarian and lower fat, but still stick to your ribs and comforting. Making it in individual "pot pie" plates makes portion control, freezing and reheating easy for singles or families where everyone is on a different schedule too!

Andrea and I didn't go back to visit my parents for Thanksgiving Day Dinner. We made our own at our house. The turkey was from Heavenly Ham. I made the squash casserole, mashed potatoes, and string beans. Andrea made the cornbread muffins.

every now and then I got the itch to give away my adaptation of mother's best meatball recipe. Here is the freebie :

I will try not to make this too long.

These were taken in August, the day my little Granddaughter, Maya, turned 15 months old. She is now 17 months old...and looks a bit different now. Her hair is getting longer in the back and lighter in color.

She loves many things.....but her favorites are......#1 being her two puppies, Zoey and Max, she loves her baby dolls, she loves adult bracelets, she loves shoes and she loves Elmo. Pretty much in that order.

Grand-Mama has now sort of turned out to be Mama Gi Gi. Don't ask me how but that is what she calls me. I loved Grand-Mama...but they say a child will call you what they want to call you......and that's OK.

Maya had just awakened from her nap and it was time for me to give her lunch. She wanted to play a bit with her "babies" as she calls them. She also wanted to wear her bracelet ( used to be mine..but now it is hers ) and eat with it on.

She also wanted to use her "baby doll dishes and spoon".....which certainly a Grandma would let any grandchild do......right ? Yes, no one was home but Maya and me... ha ha. Well Max and Zoey, as you will soon see.

Yummy! Stuffed with steak, turnips, onions etc..

Bratwurst with mashed potatoes and onions slowly roasted and carmelized in olive oil.

Wiener schnitzel at Miro's Restaurant.

This is one of my favorite dishes.

Miniature Thanksgiving dinner. Everything hand molded from gumpaste or fondant. Real candles in gumpaste candle holders. Damask stenciling on fondant tablecloth.

This cake measured 12x6 inches. First time I'd ever set a table with a pair of tweezers!

No more candlelight, no more romance

No more small talk when the hunger stops”

Here's a look at my first plate from the buffet at Loretta Lynn's Kitchen in Waverly, Tennessee. It's along I-40 about 45 minutes west of Nashville. The food is awesome. $10.99 for the buffet. Worth every penny and then some.

For my birthday dinner, Margaret made me chicken fried steak with cream gravy and mashed potatoes. It was awesome! The steak was tender with a crispy crust. The gravy was creamy and peppery. The potatoes were lumpy and had skins mixed in. Total gut bomb but so worth it on my birthday.

This is a meal that Margaret does not enjoy at all, yet she made it just for me. She really does love me. She did make herself a nice chicken salad, so she didn't have to eat this. :)

I loved this! The little meatloaf was stuffed with crimini mushrooms, spinach & mozzarella & then wrapped in bacon. Sundried tomatoes were on the side & the demi glace formed a pretty pool for it all. The mashed potatoes were seriously divine perfection. Full of cream, butter & guess what? BACON!

I highly recommend this one when you're chillin at the resort and it's cold & windy outside. But not every time you go in a season unless you're going to work it all off on the slopes.

Steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and roasted brussels sprouts with bacon

Enjoy the meal! * Bon Appétit! * Eet smakelijk! * ¡Buen provecho!

Dieses leckere Essen gab es vergangene Woche auf dem Balkon:

Frische Bratwurst, Rotkohl und Kartoffelpüree - soooo lecker, vor allem die Bratwurst!!!

***

This tasty meal was served last week on the balcony:

Fresh bratwurst (*), red cabbage and mashed potatoes - sooo tasty, especially the bratwurst!!!

(*) fresh in this case means that the meat is raw and the saussage has to be cooked (fried) on the very day whereas for example Thuringian bratwurst is already cooked and can be stored in the fridge for some days

The brocolli peaking out from behing the chicken was the best part.

Healthy Homemade Mashed Potatoes for Thanksgiving Dinner

Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans! This was a meal I put together partly from tutorials, partly from my own imagination. It consists of a turkey (center) with veggies and stuffing, a larger cornucopia (for decoration), two gold candlesticks (also decor), corn, green bean casserole (with mushrooms), mashed sweet potatoes (with marshmallows), salad, pumpkin pie, a pumpkin, mashed potatoes, bread rolls, and apple pie. The ones I used tutorials for (Gardenof imagination on YouTube) are the corn, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, apple pie (sort of), and some of the turkey. For the turkey, I looked at Gardenofimagination's turkey and Sugarcharmshop's cooked chicken and combined the two. I made everything except the table (which I painted) out of clay.

Prime rib, candied carrots, mashed potatoes, and sauteed mushrooms.
