For my Dinner this day , I cooked a piece of Salmon . Serving it with a Parsley Sauce , Peas and Mashed Potatoes.
The observant amongst you will detect one small piece of Broccoli . That should have been on my partner’s plate !

One of the most moving scenes in American history took place on April 5, 1621. A small band of fifty-one pilgrims stood on the shore of Plymouth Bay in what today is the state of Massachusetts. They had endured a terrible winter. One hundred two pilgrims had come to the new world on the Mayflower, and in January and February of that year half of them died. They buried them in unmarked graves that were level with the ground so that the Indians would not know how many of them were still left.
On that fifth day of April, 1621, the fifty-one survivors stood and watched as the Mayflower left the shores, and the waters of America to go back to Europe. Not one of the surviving fifty-one Pilgrims boarded the ship to return to their homes in Europe, even though they could have. They had come to America to build a place where they could worship God and, despite the hardships that faced them, they remained to build a new nation on a new continent called America.
These were devout people who had brought with them their most precious possession: the Bible. Just nine years before coming to America, their Bibles had been published and now were more important to them than anything. After building shelters in which to live, they quickly built a church in which to worship and study the Bible, and a school where the Bible was the only textbook.
In the fall of 1621 their leader, Governor William Bradford, announced that a day would be set aside as a day of thanksgiving. It turned out to be three days during which the Pilgrims gave thanks to God for His blessings on them in the new world. In the midst of their struggle for survival ... in spite of the loss of more than half of their group, these early Americans gave thanks for God’s blessing.

During the civil war Dr. Salisbury recommended this recipe to cure just about every ailment of the gut. In my house it cures the cravings for beef with mushroom gravy and some fluffy mashed potatoes.
Miniature Thanksgiving dinner. Everything hand molded from gumpaste or fondant. Real candles in gumpaste candle holders. Damask stenciling on fondant tablecloth.
This cake measured 12x6 inches. First time I'd ever set a table with a pair of tweezers!

I hope my fellow Americans had an amazing Thanksgiving. This is the first Thanksgiving in many years I've been able to spend with my family. I am thankful for that and hope there will be many more.
This dish was $7.99. You get meat loaf, country ham, chicken dumplings with 3 sides. I chose corn, mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese. Cornbread or biscuits, I chose the biscuits. Sweet tea for drink! I'm still full from this lunch!

Schnitzel and mash, paired with a top belgian beer... does the trick every time !
The meat pictured is a traditional german dish called Schnitzel. These are usually thin cutlets of veal - seasoned with salt, pepper and paprika. Then covered in flour and breadcrumbs and deep fried in a skillet. In this case beef cutlets were used and the use of pork is also fairly common. This stuff is to die for!
The mash potato is very simple - seasoned salt, pepper and chopped fresh parsley. A little creamed cheese stirred in, rounds it off.
The "Duvel" beer is a type of "Weissbier", which is light and effervescent, but also quite potent in this case.. ha-ha.. 8.5% alcohol.. Normally this beer is served in a much shorter and rounder glass with a tapered top.
Don't forget to eat with a very sharp knife! (Swiss preferred)

The boys are celebrating Burns Night tonight, with a traditional meal of haggis, neeps and tatties, washed down with a single malt whisky. Nobby is our cook, Ted has dressed up in his Scottish tartan kilt and Ginger is only here for the food and drink!
Burns Night, the anniversary of the birth of Scottish poet Robert Burns, is celebrated annually on 25 January.
The tradition of the Burns Night Supper was first held in 1801 by the poet's friends, five years after his death. Today, the day - otherwise known as Robert Burns Day - has become popular around the UK.
Widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, Burns is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language. He also wrote in English and is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement. After his death, he became a source of inspiration to founders of liberalism and socialism and greatly influenced Scottish literature.
His most recognised works include Auld Lang Syne, often sung at Hogmanay or New Year's Eve, and Scots Wha Hae, which became an unofficial Scottish national anthem.
Whisky is the usual choice of tipple on Burns Night, either malts or blends. It is traditional to pour a dram over the haggis, but most prefer not to as it changes the taste of the meat and can turn the meal soggy.
Historically, grace is said before a Burns Supper. As the main course was brought in - traditionally a haggis - the host would recite the poem Address to a Haggis.
