Campbell’s Beef Broth - Fire the food stylist! - Because we signed up for Beef Stroganoff, not Beef Plop …

From Ontario, 6 New Maple Leaf Recipes - Of the recipes featured here, Shelf Life is fixated on Mabel Hickey’s Rainbow Ribbon Sandwiches. These contain not only bologna but 2 shades of food colouring. So awful, and yet so strangely attractive …

Visking Ltd. Skinless Wieners and Frankfurters Wiener Roast - Hey gang! Meet the wholesome teenagers and their skinless dogs – “They taste so good they “make” your party!” No necking, just roasting. Fortunately Mom is there to keep an eye on everybody.

Reynolds Wrap: Hamcheezers. Hamcheezers! Hot ‘N Hearty Hamcheezers for dinner? Yes please! Shelf Life will give the actual food a pass – we just like saying the word ‘Hamcheezers’ as often as possible.

Call us old hippies, but the sight of hands carefully rolling up plant material brings back memories of our thrill-seeking youth. Meatloaf and beans? Primo stuff, man.

Lake County is a great place for business!

Had a real blast concepting/directing photography for this feature. Kudos to photographer, Fred Lopez for his fantastic work and to Josh Clark's photoshop skills.

Wanted to do something special for this story profiling B.E. Thompson's amazing weight loss. Loved the idea of putting his "before" shot on our cover instead of the more expected "after" picture then having the cover split to reveal the results. Made for a great flipping!

Opener to the arts section. If it feels kinda Hatch Show Printish then mission accomplished.

Campbell's - Campbell's Red Cow - Never mind the hellacious awfulness of the beef broth/tomato soup combo, Shelf Life is obsessed with the special phrase "Soup Mate" We don't get it. Is it a play on words? A reference to heat? What? Something to do with cows?

When Bing was king (see bottom). Shelf Life is fascinated by pre-WW2 food ads, many of which used illustrations instead of photography. The recipes look good, if quaint. Love the phrase at the top: ‘Let your family have all they want, at any hour.’
