Milk Carton & Ice Block - Shelf Life likes the idea of this – not only because we’d be totally impressed by a big, smooth, fruit-striped flank of glacier floating in our punchbowl, but because this is in fact a crafts project disguised as a recipe. Cool!

Heinz Ketchup - An innocent time, and a touchingly simple recipe. This ad is from 1932, seven years before World War II. Interesting to note that after the Korean War – and certainly following Vietnam – references to the military virtually disappeared in advertising.
Borden’s Mince Meat Swirlybuns - The buns look tasty, but they are never going to make Shelf Life feel as warm and tingly inside as the breathless ad copy: “You bake them high and good and golden with Fleischmann’s high rising Yeast” .

The hot dogs seem like a huge amount of work for a bunch of kids who are just going to snigger at the likes of ‘milk mates for moderns’ anyways, and in a year or so will use the booklet to roll joints on.
