Deliciously Dressed Salads: Ann Page Mayonnaise at A&P – Look out – the mayonnaise has gone rogue!! Not content with lurking in every layer of this ‘glamorous’ and ‘taste-thrilling’ miniature sandwich loaf, the A&P mayo has run amok and coated every square inch of bread. Awesome overkill.
Monarch Tea-Bisk Dumpling Mix - Terror for dinner! The closer we get, the more unappetizing it looks. Sometimes bigger isn’t necessarily better.

I used an obviously Latina woman draped in an American flag to symbolize the issue's cover story about immigration. Hiring Miami photographer, Dirk Franke, we shot the model in a white dress with a sheet pinned to her side for the billowing fabric. Then we took many shots of an American flag blown by fans for reference. My amazing retoucher, Josh Clark and I went back and forth many times to make the flag as realistic as possible. All the hard work was worth it every time we were asked where we ever found that flag dress.

Miracle Whip Limelight Chicken En Gelée - Did you know that while gazing at this ad Michael Crichton got the idea for Jurassic Park? Okay, that’s not true. But it could be.

We’re down with the Margene caramel apples, and the pie crust looks fine, but for the life of us Shelf Life can’t figure out the Nippy Mustard Spread Quick Trick. Call us crazy, but why actually mix the mustard and marge – wouldn’t it be logical to spread one on each sandwich slice? And why are the peas ‘Parisienne?’
What A Spread You Can Make From Bread! OMG! National ‘Sandwich Time’ was in August. Curses; we missed it. Shelf Life wonders if anyone served burgers that appear to be filled with mashed potatoes.

Guys, look! Fellow Wise Men – hark! Up in the sky – a guiding star! But what’s that glow up ahead? Bethlehem can wait – let’s stop for some Jello
Western Ranch Menu - It may be true that “everybody loves chicken”, but does everybody love crowded, inhumane conditions in a frying pan? Shelf Life probably won’t be gathering around the campfire for greasy, chicken-influenced peaches or greasy, chicken-influenced prefab biscuits.

Maple Leaf: This Time, From Some Friends In Nova Scotia - Let’s see – it’s 1972, and the rule seems to be that if you include pineapple in your recipe the name of the dish must feature the words ‘Aloha’ or ‘Luau’. Guess people didn’t get out much in those days.

Batchelors Wonderful Foods; Guest Husband - Before the 60s, England was un-Swinging and repressed. Witness this bizarre short story – in which Mrs. Geoff Average is rewarded with nylons (!) for feeding hubby ‘peaburgers’.
This cover was admittedly inspired by a scene in the movie Garden State. It worked perfectly to fit our required cover model in and illustrate a cover package about home and interior design.

Campbell’s Holiday Tomato Soup - In the land of vintage advertising, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without an aspic recipe from Campbell’s. But in the 70s, when this ad was published, time was running out for the once-proud tomato soup jelly. Aspic was for old people like ‘Aunt Emma’, and would soon disappear entirely from the Campbell’s marketing repertoire.
