After months of intensive research and stitching and finally completing a piece on women's suffrage I now am required to make a miniature book for a Frankenstein exhibition in Liverpool.
Marches Book Arts Group are displaying work in the library there and our vision is to create various body parts in the form of books.
My contribution is Victor's right foot and, as you can see, you have to lift the big toe nail to access the pages.
Mixed media measuring about 2inches across and three inches in depth.
This was created out of calico, paper, machine stitch, paint, ink and waxed paper and is lined with purple silk..
It looked quite effective when added to the other parts.
First foray into machine embroidery, after a long, long, long break from it. Thank you to Jackie (dogdaisy) for your help!
I just can't resist piling on the embellishments...
My poor dejected yoga mat was sitting in the basement getting all grumpy at me, giving me the evil eye every time I went by (the rowing machine too, I think they're in on it together) so to appease it I made it a cute new carrier. Check out my profile for more info on this tutorial and find some inner peace with your wayward yoga equipment.
i digitized these applique flowers for my shop. they remind me of the little flowers we made out of paper as children, hence the name paper roses.
From my "Big book of flatties"
I have set myself a challenge to fill this book with small, flat dolls, and then add the narrative at the end.
These dolls are made from felt and machine embroidery
to embellish a tank top from H&M...

This was inspired by a graffiti wall.
I screen printed muslin and then appliqued some devore lettering on to cotton and then applied hand made silk paper. Machine and hand stitched
Gorgeous embroidered clutch, with my own design pattern of peacock feather. I’ve embroidered feather with beautiful gold metallic thread. I’ve used 100% white cotton, awesome white satin as lining material and antique brass kisslock purse frame.
I USE ONLY MY ONW PATTERN FOR EMBROIDERY!

An exhibition piece which has been several months in the making.
It links Neolithic Orkney and the textile traditions of Shetland.
The traces left by Neolithic people and the essence of the culture and the environment of these two islands are combined in homage to people who live in isolation yet are joined together in a tight knit community.
The inspiration of the “Simmer Dim”, Taatit bed coverings, Maeshowe, twig writing, and the textile work of Niela Kalra are used here to give a flavour of an experience gathered during my 2019 stay.
Niela talked to me in her studio about her cultural heritage in lands far removed from Shetland and how feelings of isolation within a small community can influence current textile art.
In this piece I have used knitting, knotting, crochet, weaving, machine and hand embroidery, paint and ink to show how disparate materials can come together in a modern interpretation of age old subjects.
The woven background supports a machine embroidered surface which has been painted with reflective materials to suggest a season when there is little true darkness and also to reflect the light seen on the sea shore. The hooked and knotted circle using turban fabric and sari silk illustrates how two cultures and genders can integrate but still remain apart, and the structure reflects the cairn at Maeshowe and the light of the winter solstice which illuminates the central chamber. On its walls are examples of many runic inscriptions, two of which I have reproduced in wool.
Mixed media measuring about 3 feet square.
I used the Baroque Punk phoenix from Urban Threads as the basis for this, adding the ring and arrow to create a stylized mockingjay (from The Hunger Games).
I love the Mockingjay/Girl on Fire concept mash-up. I've been thinking about this idea since I read Hunger Games, but finally figured out my digitizing software sufficiently to execute it effectively.
It's stitched on a heavy white twill, destined to be made into a cover for my serger. (And I'll prob figure out other ways to use it as it's one of my favorites.)
I made these a while ago and now I'm ready to let them go. I hope someone will give them a home. See my profile for the link to 'youknowwhere'
The tooth fairy pillow, for all your tooth-storin' needs. A snarky smile up front, and a tooth sized little pocket at the back. Also the perfect size for a few quarters, if the fairy should feel so inclined.

Part of my new piece for Ledbury Poetry Festival.
This shows a bag made out of pieces of very fragile old cotton which I have fashioned into an old fashioned carry all. This was a difficult piece to work as the pieces were an odd shape and had to be handled with care.
It is decorated with hand and machine embroidery and an image from an old book.
It shows the choices faced by a young Elizabeth Barrett Browning, who was living at Hope End, Ledbury, at the time.
Should she continue a life as an invalid, educating herself by reading, or should she have a conventional life of a girl of her back -ground and aspire to marriage.
Knotted crochet cotton and an old button complete the piece.
