There was a stain on this shirt that would not come out, so I buried it under embroidery stitching. Design is from Urban threads.com and called "Elegant Bat".

A better shot of the little button-eyed owl. I wish I'd moved him a bit closer to the brim, but he's cute anyway.

We’ve long been trying to prove that machine embroidery can be more than teddy bears and butterflies, and even more than that, a legitimate art in itself. Machine embroidery is not what you think. Don’t believe me? Take a closer look…

This piece the Crane Wife is an experiment in using commercial machine embroidery in a whole new way. Check out full details and some progress shots on our new blog!

My way of beating rising heating costs and looking crafty all at the same time. I love hot water bottles, but I thought I should give them a much needed style update.

Knitted and croched wall hanging. I have surface stitched this with machine embroidery and added an applique drawing on resin paper which has also been machine embroidered.

Just a little bit of fun for a sunny day!

Well, I started out making a ITH sleeve for a cup (like Starbucks or such), but it turned out too small, so now I have an arm cuff! lol

I'll have to work on making a two part sleeve that will actually fit a cup.

Otherwise, I like how it turned out.

I used Urban Thread's skull cherries design and repeated it three times around the *cuff*.

Machine embroidery on painted fabric

The project idea for this was to take our designs and see how well we could incorporate them into a full fashion jacket, and somehow (not surprisingly) that turned into a full-on heavy stitched steampunk project!

I am FINALLY done with this group of blocks!!!PHEW!! I have never made so many mistakes and had to start over so many times. These blocks are only 6" and will be set on the diagonal in the quilt. I sit a dime on one of the middle blocks for comparision. View original view so you can see details.

Made using an in-the-hoop design from Embroidery Garden

Just doodling with the sewing machine.

I laid the off cuts of wool from my current project on to a painted piece of interfacing and then machine embroidered on top.

I added details in pen and paint, and then backed it with scraps of paper and interfacing.

I'm looking through UT's designs to find "just the right" design to make buttons out of and put on another pair of slippers. Any ideas?

I made these buttons on my embroidery machine. They are about 1.25" diameter. They are easy to make:

1. Embroider your design about 1.5", or to fit on your button.

2. Cut about 1/2" around the design and hand stitch a running stitch all the way around the edge to gather it up and create a pouch.

3. Cut a 1" circle disc out of plastic (I used a butter container lid).

4. Inside the little pouch you've created by gathering the fabric, place a teensy bit of stuffing, then the disc, and then pull the gathers tight and secure. Tada! Le Button!

Make two for these slippers.

To make the fast and easy crochet slippers, I used the free tutorial here:

Machine embroidery on to two layers of white cotton

I was given a sheet of magazine scraps which had been applied to a background in a haphazard manner and was asked to use this as a source of inspiration!

I find this sort of challenge VERY difficult as I usually work to an idea, not an image.

After a mild panic I decided to gesso the whole page in an attempt to tone down the images and then I used it to create a folder which I then die cut and embossed.

I then grabbed the scrap bag and started to machine embroider images which started to leap from the page.

This is one sample.

This was made for a friend of mine for her first Gallery Exhibition .. It was so exciting. The theme was Travel and Bridges. I wanted to make her a little gift to show her how proud I was of her!!

I used a combination of free motion stitching and hand embroidery. The faded bridge in the background was made by printing a line drawing, with a toner printer and then transferring it with acetone onto the fabric.

The design graciously comes from the very talented Sam (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dwelldeep/)

Inspired by the recent awesomeness of Urban Threads, I decided to give tone on tone a try. I've done something similar, but this was the first with black on black. I think it turned out awesome and I might make more. [on etsy]
