It's funny, while the world views us collectively as New Yorkers, we ourselves as locals tend to define ourselves by the neighborhoods were from within each borough.

Item #4 monthly scavenger "local billboard". I didn't realize we had so many but I chose this one because it is at the bottom of a mountain side.

There are a few smaller mountains in my area, suitable for hiking and hunting small game - deer.

Kanha was a bit of a dissapointment as there was heavy flooding, especially in the core zone, so noone was allowed in.

Normally we were supposed to have 3 game drives in the core zone. We did only one in the bufferzone, but the animals were very scarce. In the afternoon it was raining so heavily that we couldn't even go out and our second game drive was cancelled.

So the second day we cancelled our third game drive and visited a local village instead.

We would not have been allowed in the core zone anyway, and we feared the bufferzone would be just the same as the day before.

We had local fever at #ThirdThursMIA: Get Local.

We tuned in to live local music from Dérobé Dance Band presented by the Local Current, we discovered local connections in the MIA’s global collection, and sampled local food offerings from the MIA’s new food vendors.

We also met MN Artists Exhibition Program artist Chad Rutter at his book launch for Flood Music and made our own MN-style art to show our neighborhood pride with a pennant.

We shopped local and meet the makers behind The Bow Tie Shoppe and Marked Leather and connected with the local Whittier neighborhood offerings.

We took in local Coffee House Press author/illustrator Eric Hanson‘s MIA library residency presentation and listened to and remix the collection as interpreted by MN musicians.

Check out upcoming Third Thursdays.

I have found some local signs can seem to be a bit missleading

esp'ly for a visitor, the sign on the left seems to inform that our railway station is to the right at Fenton, the access is but its not Fenton station, whereas a stranger can see the station ahead ( thats the bridge ahead carrying the railway) tho' the bridge states 'low bridge ahead', yes there's one afta this but thats a low one too, so in my eyes asign here at this point wud inform drivers to be aware this is the one!. A sign before this had read : station/fenton, turn right, but we dont have a station at Fenton anymore, so it was pianted-out, as a car passenger I tend to notice these things, but I feel sorry for visitors on our roads.

n.b. - when one gets a 'GREEN' at this section, as you enter the next section the lights goto 'RED 'again,so you wait to enter the next section, ther is a bus lane on the left which they pull into but have to pull-out again as the road goes back to 1 lane, very few buses use it - I wonder why !
