These b/w...burry....foggy, kind of shots are really difficult for me to work on. And yet, I love the "feel" of this type of image. I have some contacts (sixta, nkl, Between visions and dreams, Eric Vondy, frederic.desmot, Nesster and several others) who are staggeringly good at this sort of thing. Their talent is amazing and I have to push my boundaries to come up with anything close. Being someone who loves the character of HDR....as every new piece of detail dissapears, my brain struggles with the loss. Aaaaaaaagh!!!!! This isn't great, but I continue to try.

This was taken Tuesday evening 16th June towards the end of a Bognor Regis Camera Club Walk at Itchenor a village on one of the inlets of Chichester Harbour. This is a large harbour on the south coast of England which is comprised of many narrow inlets. The area is well known for Yachts and boats.

The picture was taken on a Tripod with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 28-80 zoom at 55 mm with 3 images for HDR. Outputted in Photomatix using Contrast Optimiser for a natural look.

Processing included Topaz DeNoise and Clarity and a saturation adjustment layer, yellows and reds in Photoshop for a warmer look.

The Watercress Line is the marketing name of the Mid-Hants Railway, a heritage railway in Hampshire, England, running 10 miles (16 km) from New Alresford to Alton where it connects to the National Rail network. The line gained its popular name in the days when it was used to transport locally grown watercress to markets in London. The railway currently operates regular scheduled services, along with dining trains, real ale trains and numerous special events throughout the year.

DRS 37425 (with 37405 on the rear) powers up the grade from Stainton Junction to Carlisle New Yard, having just traversed the stub to Kingstown of the former 'Waverley' line to Edinburgh. This was the 'Carlisle Power Box 40' charter organised by Network Rail and Direct Rail Services on 10 May 2014.

Joshua got baptized last weekend. Here he is afterwards dressed in a tie and the center of attention. He is surrounded by all his younger cousins on both sides who came to the baptism. Such a sweet boy!

I'm enjoying the start of a 3 day weekend.

Hope you are all having fantastic ones!

More winter scenes ... hope you enjoy them and aren't too bored. It's all I've got to shoot right now lol. And to all of you commenting on how cold they look ... I guess I must be a winter child since I was born in January. I love going out in the snow - unless it's below 20 - then I'm with the rest of you and stay indoors with a good fire or something to keep me warm.

Hugs!

When someone mentions BNSF's Hi Line Sub I immediately think of the stretch of railway between Java and Summit Montana. With two main tracks clinging to a shelf above the valley, and numerous snow sheds this area is a great place to watch the passage of freight. Photography on this part of the railway can be challenging, with access to most locations gained by hiking, or more recently, from the air.

So on a typical October afternoon (note the lack of sun) a westbound Z train snakes along the shelf and through the sheds along my favorite portion of the Hi Line.
