In November we headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and wine. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. We grabbed coffee and cake in St Helena, where I noticed this unique old style gas station.
I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

A dynamic urban cityscape at night. Illuminated buildings line the horizon, their colorful neon signs and lights radiating vibrancy against the dark sky. Some signs feature notable brand names as well as others with a mix of English and Chinese characters. The city’s radiance is reflected in the still water in the foreground, creating a stunning interplay of colors—reds, blues, purples—that shimmer and ripple across the surface.
It’s a striking representation of urban nightlife, blending architecture, advertising, and reflections to evoke a sense of modern energy and motion, even within stillness. It's a snapshot of a bustling city that never truly sleeps.
A peach of a night back at Padley Gorge with Chris Thompson. Sparks were the order of the night and a pov I've wanted to shoot after dark since I saw it during the daylight. Unfortunately I had somewhat ran out of steam by this time so not entirely how I'd envisioned it but happy all the same.
Single Skyray torch on a light stand behind me exposed for 12 seconds then Chris did the sparks. I should be shoehorning a few more visits here over the Christmas period and hoping to throw a few more lights at it and a little less in the way of wind.
Cheers to Chris for all his input as ever and already looking forward to the next one.

We headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and wine. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. We stopped in the middle of nowhere that had vines in various colors. Many colors here, from brown, to green, to yellow, to red, do blue, to cyan.

We are in Japan again, currently traveling up north to Akita. This photo is from last spring, when we went to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine. It has thousands of Torii, or red gates.

Light shines beautifuly on beautiful people. Only that light to create this image. if you have only one light to use, some say use it ;) there is a greate story behind the the lens.
We went to see Hanami, the cherry blossoms at Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. It was an enchanting experience to walk below cherry trees in full blossom, and along other trees.

Loving the mid-week lp sessions of late and all three of us bagged shots we were chuffed with in a couple of hours shooting.
Tonight took me to the cave in Castlefield with Chris T and Rich K and after a little wait for it to get dark enough I cracked on. Following my recent obsession with this type of shot there was just enough light in the sky to blow it out for the first part of the exposure. Once happy with the pose and exposure both inside and outside the cave it was time to put it together in one shot. Tokina on 16mm and Chris kindly fired the shutter then after 1 second replaced the lens cap. Refocused and zoomed out to 11mm then took the camera into the cave to Rich's tripod and exposed him through the misty atmosphere, backlit with Chris T's wonderful Led Lenser X21r.
A superb night and awesome to see the shots on the back of their cameras. Everyone happy.
Shot during a single long, lens capped exposure.

I went to see the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver, BC, Canada. It was a nice walk in the drizzling rain! There are so many average pictures of suspension bridges, I was thinking how I can make a compelling image. Luckily, the sun peeked through the clouds, shining light right at the middle of the bridge.

I took a day off to do a road trip in the Swiss Alps and nearby Südtirol in Italy. On the way after passing over the Flüelapass I stopped at a small village called Giarsun, located in the lower part of the Engadin valley near Austria. I talked to the owner of an ancient house, who graciously gave me a tour of his traditional Engadin stone house. He mentioned that part of a Schellen-Ursli children story was filmed in his house.
The dynamic range is extremely large in this scene, about 20 stops. I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from four RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. The resulting image has a dynamic range of about 7 stops. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

May all moms be happy on this special day. We appreciate your guidance, we became what we are because of you.
I took this image on the first day of this year in my hometown Schuders, located in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. My mom walks with her life partner from her house in the back to the only restaurant in town.

On Saturday we spent the afternoon at the Mission Dolores Park in San Francisco. It was more busy than usual, many people celebrated Pride Month. I often think, how can I capture a moment, how can a picture tell a story without me explaining. What about this picture?

In the low light of the early morning, in the Simbruini mountains, the shadows of the giant beech trees lengthen on the foliage.
A tough choice tonight on which shot to upload but this one just edges it I think.
A cool night out with Rich, Rob, Stephen and a brief appearance from James at Magpie Mine.
This one edged it as I think I nailed the exposure work. Its not the most technical light painting or ground breaking in any way. I think its key is in its simplicity.
Lit all round with the led lenser and thanks to Rich for lighting the window frame from behind. Quick burst of torch gelled red inside to mimic the light from the orb then span one.
Yet another top night with a cool set of folks.
This is number 79 of my 366.
