In June I took a rental car to drive from Milano Malpensa Airport to my hometown in the Swiss Alps. I decided to take the longer, scenic route over the Bernina Pass and Flüela Pass. On the Flüela Pass road towards Davos is a small chapel. There is no light pollution, so the only light source is the illuminated chapel.

In the night light this office building looked quite surreal... and transforming it into a B/W image underlines the effect.

We went to San Francisco, first for sunset near the Golden Gate bridge, then for the moonrise. Our first stop was the Sutro Heights Park at Sea Cliff. The sun was low, casting nice shadows and silhouettes.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Yesterday on my way

Hier sur mon chemin

I like to drive up on Mt. Hamilton for sunset. From half way up on the mountain you can see the whole Silicon Valley, which is located at the south and of the San Francisco Bay Area. The sky turned red at sunset, caused by an inversion layer. I stayed until dark, and took this one-point perspective long exposure shot after the red sky partially waned.

I processed a balanced, a realistic, and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Like so many, we experience cabin fever after spending a month at home in isolation. On Sunday we escaped to nature for a photoshoot at a nearby trail in Cupertino, California. We had fun experimenting with different poses. The sun added interesting patterns of lights and shadows on this grass covered field below trees.

I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and added a Silver Efex Pro 2 filter to promote the lights and shadows. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

The sunset was beginning. The street was plunged into shadows, gray and dark blue light. But that gate was still full of sunshine. Like a magical transition from the land of shadows to the warm light of Eden.

We went to see Hanami, the cherry blossoms at Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. It was an enchanting experience to walk at night below cherry trees in full blossom, and along bamboo trees.

We sent off our daughter at Landquart station, with train to Zürich Airport. Landquart is a small town in the Swiss Alps. You change at this station to go to Davos, famous for skiing and World Economic Forum.

Recently we walked in the Plaza De Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose, California. The sun was low, and I played with shots against the sun. Life is full of wonders, especially if you walk around with the curious eyes of a kid.

Last Saturday we spent the afternoon at the Mission Dolores Park in San Francisco, celebrating Pride Month. Our group was entertained by a DJ, and the dog was running around with a rainbow costume. It was a fun afternoon, although I am still recovering from a sunburn.

Chur is a regional capital in the Swiss Alps. I went to high school there at the Kantonsschule. The old part of the town is well preserved, and is car free, which makes it very attractive to walk around town. This is the hallway in a tower, leading to the cathedral located at the edge of the old city.

Most city centers in the USA are owned by cars, not people - I wish cities would introduce car free zones as well. Well, some cities begin to change by blocking off a few blocks of downtown from cars to provide space for outdoor seating for restaurants. As difficult the COVID-19 situation is, this is one of the positive aspects it brings to society.

Bienvenidos todas y todos a la época navideña esa que trae de cabeza a alguna gente y que disfruta otra tanta. No se sabe si es una época buena o una pesadilla, ya decía el gran Alice Cooper aquello de; "Welcome to my nightmare

I think you're gonna like it

I think you're gonna feel you belong

A nocturnal vacation

A necessary sedation

You wanna feel at home 'cause you belong

Welcome to my nightmare, whoa-whoa-oh"

Con eso y todo salud para tod@s nos guste o no la navidad.

I was amazed when looking through this frosted glass and seeing these magical shadows, in a way reflecting Gaudí's ingenious design works of the interior of Casa Batlló.

Taken in one of the many interesting rooms inside Casa Batlló, Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona, Spain, as part of a series of excursion tours during my Mediterranean Cruise

Casa Batlló is a renowned building located in the center of Barcelona and is one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that. Like everything Gaudí designed, it is only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. In 2005 Casa Batlló became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. [Extract from Wikipedia]
