Towards the end of our Japan trip we had the opportunity to take photos at a big tea plantation and tea production near Fuji City and Mt. Fuji. The operation is big and automated. CEO Mohei of Mohei Tea also preserves the tradition of crafting tea by hand, which results in a different taste. In the morning they hand-plucked 1.2 kg of tea leaves. Then they steamed the leaves for 40 sec in a wooden bamboo basket, followed by hand-rolling the leaves for 5 hours over a slightly warm washi plate. The result is high quality green tea, a lot of work for 200 grams of tea. They currently run a Kickstarter project, you can support their cause: bit.ly/moheitea

Recently I joined a perception photo walk by master Jerry Downs at the De Young Museum located in the Golden Gate Park of San Francisco. We walked in the garden of the museum. James Turrell created an artwork called Three Gems. You walk through a small tunnel, exit in front of a small round dome, walk around it between high walls. I love the shades of red and round shadow.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully pulled the curves to pop the scene.

Soon it is time for Hanami Night Viewing at Hakone, where you can see the cherry blossoms at night at Hakone Estate and Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. This year it will be from March 20 to April 11. Don't miss this enchanting experience to walk at night below cherry trees in full blossom, and along bamboo trees!

A bit south of Carmel-By-The-Sea along the California coast is a tiny valley covered in lily flowers. We went there for sunset. This place used to be a hidden gem, now it tends to get crowded on weekends. The lilies here catch the last few rays of sunlight.
