I went for a 10 km hike in the Swiss Alps along a ridge separating Appenzell and St. Gallen. I took a gondola lift from Frümsen, then hiked south when the clouds just started to clear up. Usually the light is not that good in midday, but this time it was an interesting play of lights and shadows.

I processed a balanced, a paintery and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.

Just saw a fun opportunity as I walked upstairs...the banister shadow was a perfect slope and the finger monster and tiny lady were close at hand. :)

September 2021.

One of the loveliest Sunrises I've ever witnessed this was about shot No 15 with what was then my Brand New first ever Digital SLR the Eos 5D in 2008. Photo taken from the 7th Floor of Salvesen Tower, Blaikeys Quay, Aberdeen Scotland.

This photo has been posted a few times before in different guises, this version has had the Bow of the Normand Progress (Left) re-instated using the Content Aware fill and though if you look closely it's not accurate it does complete the picture.

Please do not use my photos without my explicit permission

the storms coming this weekend will bury that table.thats 4 feet on it's side there.

We went to the Death Valley in California with the goal to experience the sailing stones on the Racetrack Playa at new moon. Before dark we scouted interesting stones on the playa and marked their GPS location. It was very windy at night, and we waited in the car for the wind to die down. It did not. I decided to go out on the playa in this condition; I found the rocks via GPS location. I used a dimmed-down warm-color LED floodlight to illuminate the black night. In addition I used a cold-color headlight from a low vantage point to illuminate the playa. The low light makes the playa look like cobblestones

Sailing stones are a geological phenomenon where rocks move and inscribe long tracks along a playa (dry lakebed) without human or animal intervention. Instead, rocks move when large ice sheets a few millimeters thick floating in an ephemeral winter pond start to break up during sunny days. These thin floating ice panels, frozen during cold winter nights, are driven by wind and shove rocks at up to 5 m/min across the muddy playa. More details.

It was very hot when we went to visit the city of Varese in Italy. To escape the heat we drove up to Sacro Monte di Varese, a medieval village on top of a hill. In the center is the Sanctuary, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The houses are built very close together. The alleys are narrow, and sometimes covered. In this photo the alley continues at the end towards the left with a small passage.

I processed a balanced and two paintery HDR photos from two RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the curves and color balance to pop the scene.

Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California, has a small bamboo forest. This is the path leading up to the bamboo forest.

The election circus will be over soon, one more day to go. I am looking forward to a fresh start with inclusiveness.

In November we headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and wine. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. We grabbed coffee and cake in St Helena, where I noticed this unique old style gas station.

I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Green Headed Coneflowers, Rudbeckia laciniata, a six foot tall prairie perennial blooming in the backyard. Helios KMZ 44.2 58mm 'chrome' circa 1956.

A dynamic urban cityscape at night. Illuminated buildings line the horizon, their colorful neon signs and lights radiating vibrancy against the dark sky. Some signs feature notable brand names as well as others with a mix of English and Chinese characters. The city’s radiance is reflected in the still water in the foreground, creating a stunning interplay of colors—reds, blues, purples—that shimmer and ripple across the surface.

It’s a striking representation of urban nightlife, blending architecture, advertising, and reflections to evoke a sense of modern energy and motion, even within stillness. It's a snapshot of a bustling city that never truly sleeps.

A peach of a night back at Padley Gorge with Chris Thompson. Sparks were the order of the night and a pov I've wanted to shoot after dark since I saw it during the daylight. Unfortunately I had somewhat ran out of steam by this time so not entirely how I'd envisioned it but happy all the same.

Single Skyray torch on a light stand behind me exposed for 12 seconds then Chris did the sparks. I should be shoehorning a few more visits here over the Christmas period and hoping to throw a few more lights at it and a little less in the way of wind.

Cheers to Chris for all his input as ever and already looking forward to the next one.

We headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and wine. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. We stopped in the middle of nowhere that had vines in various colors. Many colors here, from brown, to green, to yellow, to red, do blue, to cyan.

Light shines beautifuly on beautiful people. Only that light to create this image. if you have only one light to use, some say use it ;) there is a greate story behind the the lens.

We went to see Hanami, the cherry blossoms at Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. It was an enchanting experience to walk below cherry trees in full blossom, and along other trees.

I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a realistic HDR photo from four RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
