The Lightning Calculator Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Manufactured 1900-1925. (For a description: collection.maas.museum/object/372791)
This model belonged to and was well used by my grandfather. Stylus may not be original but has been with the machine since at least the late 1940s. Still works perfectly.
Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door
Lightning crashes, an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now, to the baby down the hall
Oh now feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it
Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris, presents the circle
And puts the glory out to hide, hide
Oh now feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel…

Respect! South East Queensland has had some serious storms during the last week. Over 265,000 strikes were recorded in one night, and the storm left 130,000 homes in Brisbane without power. This impressive formation was captured from nearby hinterlands looking towards the Gold Coast.
This composite uses earlier occurring lightning bolts from this storm: www.flickr.com/photos/79387036@N07/28952578812/in/album-7...
I applied minor saturation and darkened the original to create an interesting effect. Rain falling within the lightning channel took on some unusual coloration. All this was further enhanced with sunset colors.
Using a 85mm Nikkor f/1.4 lens with my DX SLR, gave a telephoto equivalent of ~127mm. Detail lightning structure is not normally captured with telephoto lenses and this image may actual capture subtle lightning structure, color, etc that is often missed with wider angle lenses.
Did a quick blend of 2 images from storm from last night...First time I have blended lightning so I was pretty happy with result of first try...Blended in StarStax..
This is easy to do. It's just a photo of my hand. The clouds, birds and light rays are Photoshop "brushes". It did take many attempts to get the combination of cloud brushes look good. The lightning was added by using a Photoshop filter. ("Alien Skin Xenofex 2" filter. )
First time I manage to get a really good shot of lightning, just after we arrived home from our vacation in Denmark.
Daylight lightning strikes taken with Nikon P950 (movie mode) and stacked / lightened (6 frames) in Photoshop. Rolling scan created banded artifacts with the brightest bolts (unavoidable).

Got several lightning storms this week in Campinas. This night was special, the lightning came much before the rain, so I could get the sky relatively clear.
Last time, I closed more on the subject, the hotel Royal Palm Plaza... this time I decide to go wider and get more landscape.
How: Used a polarizer to increase exposure time, since it wasn't completely dark yet. Small aperture, lowest ISO. Took a few hundreds of photos this night.
Processing: Four sucessfull lightning captures blended in Photoshop layers.

a superb thunder and mainly lightning storm over home in the early hours that lasted just shy of 3 hours
produced some excellent display I just managed to get this on my phone at the right time.
the sky was lighting up like headlights flashing it was terrific
This blue hour storm provided a few powerful lightning strikes that I slowed by a factor of 10 from my iPhone 11 Pro Max in video mode.
The first strike was epic! Yet the thunder was barely heard. Also note the bead lightning as it dissipated.
Picture of the Day
Stack of 19 raw images taken between 8:40PM-8:46PM (sunset 8:17PM). Strikes were between 20 to 25 miles. Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 lens was used. Note rare ribbon lightning at left third of image.
As forecasted, strong thunderstorms formed on the end of a trailing cold at 6PM with continuous thunder and intense cloud to ground lightning. Small hail fell for 35 minutes. Break in the clouds to the west allowed for spectacular anti-crepuscular rays, lightning next to partial rainbow, mammatus, and a legendary fiery sunset. More images to follow.

Two brilliant lightning bolts are stacked in this image taken 30 minutes after sunset in deep twilight. The foreground is lit entirely by the lightning above.
