An old Disc Golf basket turned this tree into a lightning rod. Lightning struck this beautiful Yellow Poplar and fried all the phones in my home. Lexi looks on as I take the pic.
We had a crazy storm here tonight, probably the most intense I have ever experienced. This was the best photo i could get before I literally had to run away.
Lightning photos captured and sent to FOX6 WBRC-TV by a loyal viewer in the pre-dawn hours of March 15, 2008 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Over the years I've captured a lot of cool lightning strikes! I don't have super high-end equipment nor am I a professional by any means. But I know enough about video, photography, and light, to capture an occasional good still frame from high-framerate video clips I capture. I have used many iPhones and other smartphones for this. I now have a new mirror-less digital camera (Sony Alpha a6000) but have found that it does very poor at video even compared to the iPhone X. I'll probably stick to using Smartphones for the time being, even if the clips end up noisy and sometimes out of focus. If you have tips for improving my game, that don't involve spending thousands of dollars, feel free to comment!
Cloud lightning from a thunderstorm south of Clinton, IL. I like how the illuminated the clouds. It was clear enough so you could see the stars still.
Not very good at this lightning thing, but a nasty, lightning infused storm moved through northern Vanderburgh County on 7/3.
